  1. Noam Chomsky also doesn't pay income taxes, because of US foreign policy.
  2. On what do you base the idea that if France and Germany are doing it, Canada will too? I'm not sure if you live in Canada or the U.S., but you've got you realize that since Canada didn't go along with the U.S. in the first place, and a considerable majority of the population agreed, we're not likely to go along with France and Germany into the war. We made our own decision in the first place, and I'm confident Martin, who seems to have an excellent sense of how to not ruin his name in politics, is going to stay out. I base it on the idea that if NATO sends a force, Canada will be a part of it. If that's what France/Germany want, Canada will go with it. Also, Canada and France have histories of military action together. Haiti, Yugoslavia, Africa... In many ways, Canada sticks with France more than the US. The situation is now totally different than March 2003. Canadians were against the war. Well, the war happened and is over, and now there's a real government in Iraq which needs Canada's help. Please elaborate. When has Canada had to clean up "American messes?"
  3. I may not want my taxes going towards some smoker's health care. I may not want my taxes subsidizing another person's university education. I may not want my taxes paying for the damn SkyDome. But you still have to pay them. There are other ways to protest. EDIT: lol @ pro-life advertisement.
  4. Holland and the Netherlands are the same country, so it is only 3 not counting Canada. But, yeah, not sure how they figure only a few.
  5. Though there is nothing official yet, if France and Germany agree, Canada will also. I would agree with this decision. Canada should be doing everything it can to help out the new government with stabilizing Iraq.
  6. Straight to video.
  7. There's civil marriage and religious marriage. If gays want a religious marraige, that's between them and their church. But any two people should legally be allowed to get married in a civil ceremony. As far as I'm aware, civil unions and marriage are the same thing and give people the same benefits. I think the wording is just different to appease religious people.
  8. Well, if he dies, I won't lose sleep.
  9. A lot of American states allow civil unions between gays, which is a first step. That's more than most other countries allow.
  10. It's not that simple. If a person is putting my family or myself in harm's way, I would not hesitate to kill him. Killing in self-defense is a right.
  11. That's just your opinion, though. What if he truly believed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, as the CIA and other intelligence agencies said? There's no doubt that Saddam wanted to attack the US, and probably wouldn't have hesitated to hand them over to some terrorist organisation. In that sense, it was justified.
  12. Yeah, that's more likely. Renquist will be dead soon, so there's at least one judge. But even with appointment, his power isn't supreme. Congress has to approve, and the Democrats, while a minority, still have the ability to stall. Not to mention, there are a number of moderate Republicans who also don't want a rather right wing judge being appointed.
  13. The stalking continues...
  14. Hmm... I don't believe the president would attempt that. Y'know, the Constitution and all kind of forbids it. -Troy-
  15. The president cannot remove a Supreme Court justice. It's completely outside of his power. They're basically there for life, unless they break the law and are impeached by Congress.
  16. I was impressed that he called for Saudi Arabia and Egypt to make democratic reforms. Plus, indicated that the US is going to put more pressure on Syria and Iran. From the speech: "The victory of freedom in Iraq will strengthen a new ally in the war on terror, inspire democratic reformers from Damascus to Tehran, bring more hope and progress to a troubled region, and thereby lift a terrible threat from the lives of our children and grandchildren."
  17. No, but it's not 100 000. The Lancet report was a farce. It had a margin of error of 90 000, which means that by their estimate the death toll could be 10 000 or 190 000, rendering it basically useless. The story was rushed to publication for political considerations prior to the US election.
  18. Such an unnecessary remake.
  19. Probably at least 30 standing o's. That's gonna be hard on Cheney's heart.
  20. Predictions? Bush says freedom a record 3482 times in 40 minutes. The Axis of Evil may get a new member or two. The camera will focus in on a very pissed-off (and drunk) looking Ted Kennedy. 9 pm.
  21. No one batted an eye because it was such a gross exageration.
  22. So was Clinton. Things got done. And Reagan had Democratic majorities.
  23. The President of the US doesn't have to sign bills which Congress passes, though GW Bush has never vetoed anything. It's called checks and balances. The executive should check the legislative, and vice versa.
  24. Fair enough. Then we shouldn't pay her if it's simply ceremonial.
