  1. Should be Russia; the world hasn't trembled in our shadow long enough last time around.
  2. "Everything To Everyone" - Everclear
  3. The Postman (bleh)
  4. The reasons they went back to the drawing board and wrote a new Constitution are a wee bit more complex than that. You make it sound like government control is needed to keep the people in check. Yeah, that statement was oversimplified. But it's not so much that the government is needed to keep people in check as the government is needed to actually get things done. It was a system too loose to actually get anything done. For example, they didn't really have the power to tax, and without out taxes you dont have law enforcement, or buildings constructed, or debts paid, or much of anything else.
  5. Apparently the concept is fairly ambigious; the thread on anarchy in this forum may offer some incite however. But it's 12:30AM right now so I'm gonna head off for now.
  6. Enlighten me as to the contradiction. Terms like "federation" and "community" seem to run contrary to the very essence of anarchy, it least in the common sense of the word. How so? The closest to that ever done before would probably be the lifestyle of certain Native American tribes, but even in these cases it tended to resemble communism more than anarchy. I mean the conversion from the present system to that is not one that people would accept or just take part in for some un-known reason. It just wouldn't last because it runs against the grain of human nature. Which is incidentlly why progress is essential. Humanity has always progressed, you can't force that into standstill. An anarchist society would make scientific progress impossible because great achievements in that field often take alot of work and resources that would be nearly impossible to appropriate in so loosely-formed a government. (An example would be America's pre-constitutional government under the Articles of Confederation, in which the goverment control over things was so lax, society was barely capable of functioning at all).
  7. No system is perfect. The status-quo is obviosuly no exception. History tells as that feudalism is badly flawed also. A federation of anarchist communities sounds slightly self-contradictory, impossible to pull off, and would probably create a condition that impedes general human progress in terms of of science, technology, medicine, etc. The problem with a single global government is there's no place to go and nothing to do if that government becomes abusive and oppressive.
  8. Looks like it'd be worth seeing.
  9. Got most of them already anyways! (Thanks insober)
  10. A couple of members of Rammstein have stated that there'll be a release of sequel to their latest album "Reise, Reise" within this year, to be called "Reise Weiter." Since 2001, they've written and recorded around 25 songs, only 11 of which made it onto "Reise, Reise" ...since it makes no sense in keeping the remaining songs from their fans, they may end up releasing a sequel album which will have the remaining songs.
  11. People shouldn't be informed what to do?? What the hell can they do?? There's a plane headed towards the building I'm in at 500mph, thank God I packed a first aid kit in my office, these bandaids'll do me alotta good when I'm incinerated in the explosion! Please dude, they don't offer any useful services at all. They're not saying be prepared in case of emergency, it's more like "get ready for FOR TERRORISTS!!"
  12. You kill me. So, you don't want to go after the people who want to kill Americans. Did I say that? And you don't want people to know what to do if their city happens to be attacked, because this would be fear mongering? Because there's not a whole that can be done anyways. Damn dude, it's like in the Cold War era when they taught the kids if the Commies launch their missiles at the US, you should duck and cover underneath your desk. Obviosuly that would've done absolutely nothing, but it did scare people. Statistically, plane crashes are rare, so why bother telling passengers where the oxygen masks are, right? They might get afraid... There's been quite a few plane crashes in the last 4 years. Since 9/11, not a single person was killed by terrorists on American soil. These two things aren't comparable. Look at the information they provide one with. It seems to fall under 2 categories. Either it's something that would be common sense to do anyways, but with the "because of terrorists" thrown in. Or something that's practically useless anyways, like duck and cover from an atomic blast.
  13. Never watched it; used to have a Ren and Stimpy SNES game though...
  14. Well sure there are terrorists out there, but the likelihood of actually being killed by one is extremely low, they might as well be marketing a meteorite-impact safety helmets or something. People take the threat far more seriously than they should. For example, recently, in my state at least, gun sales went up with the "threat" of terrorism. In reality what good would a gun be?? Certainly wouldn't be very useful; I'm sure plenty of people in New York had guns when the attack took place, didn't seem to have done any good, and yet people bought them like crazy?? Why?? Because they're scared and they want to protect themselves. Fire departments, and local emergency serivices already tell people have have escape plans from their houses and to keep safety/emergency kits in case of a natural disaster. So to tell people to do it in case of terrorism seems quite un-necessary as people should be doing it already; it would seem then that the only purpose to bring terrorism make people think that it's something they should genuinely be afraid of. You made the comparison to fire, well one someone sees a discarded lighter on the ground, they don't get all hysterical and think it has to do with an arson plot. In sharp contrast, right here in the town I live in, a huge panic was caused when some teenage guy found a slip of paper with Arabic text printed on it, alot of people believed they were onto something terrorist related. A nearby school was even locked down. They later determined the slip of paper was a label from a box of an Arabian tea from a local foreign foods store.
  15. Not the same thing really. With fire, it's typically preventable by the victim, just need a few precautions. Totally different from thinking there are evil people somewhere bent solely upon your murder and the murder of those who you know and love.
  16. Never saw this ad, does sound kind of sick and wrong in away. Fueling people's fear like that. The gov't puts its citizens in danger with its actions and then tries to get people to submit to it with scare tactics.
  17. "Dirty Fingernails" - Modest Mouse
  18. My favorite lyrics from Matt are the older ones, like Last of the Ghetto Astronauts, Waiting for the Great Destruction, South of Summer, etc. Though his music was alot "cruder" back then, I think the lyrics were better. By contrast, with the Avalanche or WLR&RR, the music seems to be more skillfully played and better edited, but the lyrics are kind of lagging.
  19. So... what did we do??
  20. Given that it's said to be really depressing... for me it's a perfect date movie, because my girlfriend and myself are really weird.
  21. You're kidding...right??
  22. I'm against it, because I wanna make it easier for Russia to launch its assault on the northern hemisphere when the time comes. ;)
  23. Damn, I thought this was gonna be about the Roman emperor...
