  1. That is one of THE fundamental differences between Kerry and Bush. Bush leads with his own convictions, what he thinks is right and wrong. He's always said that he "doesn't use polls to make policy". So you've got a guy wanting to ammend the constitution to ban gay marriage. He wants congress to make his rich tax cuts permanent. There's something admirable about his convictions, but his blind way of thinking is also very scary. I like Kerry's way of thinking better. He may disagree morally with something (ie: gay marriage) but he would put that aside in order to represent what the majority want.
  2. thats why his films are more editorials than "factual" documentaries. But Moore's often controversial opinions are what make his films fun to watch. I watch documentaires on The History Channel all the time and i find them interesting, and i can trust most of them to be fairly factual, but they are bland compared to Moore's and would put the average person to sleep. the spin is the hook, i guess.
  3. Apparitions (1st time a song came down to coin-flip. App. is a better video than a song, so i had to separate the 2) Advertising on Police Cars (this was easy, the best track on AOB) Tripoli (another toughy)
  4. well it helps to be educated and to know a couple of sites. But working towards a major in political science helps cool. if i went through university again i'd probably choose Political Sci. or maybe history as my major.
  5. Yeah, its a cool film, but Moore screws around with the facts a bit. He twists them to favor his point.
  6. I guess it sort of started for me with "Apparations" when the video first came out. I thought it was a cool song, and then shortly after i took notice of "Everything Is Automatic" and "Indestructible" on the radio. That made me go out and buy the "Underdogs" CD, which i thought was really good. Not long after that i noticed a friend in my class (i was in high school at the time, about grade 11) had LOTGA, and she let me borrow it off her. That album blew me away, and i've bought every Matt album ever since.
  7. woops, i though the "2nd presidential debate" meant the vice-prez debates.
  8. yeah Bush was going a little crazy there the 1st half of the debate. I don't know what was up with all the yelling and anger-screaming, and then when he interupted the moderator i thought he was losing his mind. But Bush calmed down alot in the 2nd half of the debate, the fits of rage seemed to have left him for the most part. Did much better this debate but the weird facial expressions were still there. And he really did hammer Kerry over his Senate record. Bush definately had the line of the night: "want some wood?". haha that was funny, it made me laugh. Kerry did very well. Stayed cool despite the Bush rage-a-thon. But i still don't 100% trust the guy. I don't think he's a flip-flopper as they say, but he has definately back-tracked on some Iraq issues and its so obvious that he's full of crock on a few of the things he says regarding how he stands or stood on Iraq. But overall i thought he did great, especially on domestic stuff.
  9. soooooo. what did you think?
  10. Advertising On Police Cars. Gives the hairs on the back my neck boners.
  11. damn i'm so jealous!!!!! I'm the biggest Metallica fan in the world. My favorite band ever!! They played in Ottawa tonight, but i couldn't go. AHHHHH!!!!! (i'm so depressed). Thats a pretty awesome set-list, but WTF is up with "I disappear" on there? oh well i hear they mix up their set-lists. hell i'm gonna go download the friggin' Ottawa concert and cry myself to sleep.
  12. well i'm glad we have some nice "equipment" the U.S. wants to use. Maybe we can trade it for a dozen Apache Longbow helicopters, and maybe a few ocean rigs to get our troops where they need to go. nice little trivia i found out a few months ago: "Marine One", the U.S. President's personal helicopter, is also a Sea King. (but i suspect its a much newer model)
  13. Actually thats not quite true. The reason Belinda Stronach did not win the leadership nomination is because she has zero political experience. She came from being a top business executive (CEO), to throwing herself into the political fray. She has a better image than Harper and is more likeable, so maybe in another 4 years she'll win the nomination. She even had the official backing Michael Harris, a demi-God in the eyes of conservatives. And Tony Clement was just a geek, and Peter McKay is a liar and a cheat, so Harper was the best man left for the job, and looking back Harper still was very likely the best chance the conservatives had at winning the Federal election. I don't see Harper's winning as "what the Alliance wanted", because if Michael Harris (former PC) had run he would have blown Harper out of the water. But it does totally give the impression that the Alliance-PC merge was just an Alliance takeover. I agree, i hate the religious part of Harper's policies. Gay marriage, abortion etc. wouldn't be allowed if Harper had anything to do with it. But those are his own opinions, and his religious social views are not what all conservatives across Canada believe. Harper likely does represent what many Western Alliance believe, but not in the PC half of the party. As for Martin and his "new" Liberal party, Martin is much better than Chretien, but the party, its members, the people and businesses they employ, and its basic policies remain mostly the same. I don't totally trust Martin, but we'll see where this party goes. I honestly don't forsee and sweeping changes happening. So are you saying you are content on having a military that is horribly under-funded and is totally incapable of protecting the sovereignty of this country? Haven't you read the stories about our crappy Sea-King helicopters, that are literally 40 years old, have frequent malfunctions, and one which crashed last year trying to take off from its landing vessel. link: Sea-King crash...and those are the best helicopters we have! Do you also recall Canada not even having enough ships to even transport our troops to the Persian Gulf/Afghanistan and having to let the US do it for us? embarassing. Over the last decade the liberals have taken money directed to our military and used it towards funding social programs. They have no real plans on improving our military, unlike the Conservative who had more military funding on their official election platform. Yes i like our role in the world as peace-keepers and no i don't want us to become a war-like country, but i am for keeping our troops safe and properly-equipped.
  14. yeah exactly. Americans would be like "who the *bleep* is this guy?" Nobody really cares what Matt Good says except for Matt Good fans, and 95% of them live in Canada. If Moore was to include a Canadians' opinion on Bush and the war, he'd be wise to interview someone more famous in the eyes of Americans.
  15. Beastie are pretty cool. Stylish, funny yet socially pro-active, retro, old-school hip-hop, and don't sell-out. and you can't go wrong with Iron Maiden for pure metal campiness (and Eddie!): gotta love that crotch shot!
  16. anything that comes out of the new Canadian Idols mouth. i hate that punk.
  17. yeah, the Good Charlotte video about suicide was also awesome.
  18. The US are our neighbours. Our societies, cultures, economies etc are intertwined. What affects you affects us as well. Also, we are bombarded with US politics on TV via the US tv stations we watch (NBC, CNN, FOX etc.), so its hard not to get interested. Most importantly, what happens in these elections also greatly affects the world, especially in the era we live in now. Yes, Canadians do actually care what happens in the rest of the world. (oh, and US politics beats soap-opera's ;) )
  19. Although i lean slighly left-of-center politically, i support the Conservatives right now. I cannot support the Liberals, because of how crooked and complacent they have become. Don't even get me started on the Liberals because i could go on for days. I'll just say that if you read a lot and know what's really been going on the last 6-12 years you'll know how disgusting the party is. The last 2 federal elections i've given my vote to the Canadian Alliance and Canadian Conservatives, respectively. I like Harper as a person and he's great in the House of Commons, but i disagree with many of his social policies. He needs to be ousted as leader because he does not represent what I, and the majority of Canadians, believe in. But i still voted for him because the Libs deserved to be held accountable for their corruption and incompetence, and 4 years of Conservative gov't would have cleaned up some of the wasteful mismanagement of funds, lowered taxes, and helped restore our military. But can i understand why most Canadians didn't vote for Harper. The NDP is much too socialist for me as a gov't (though i respect them), and they would ruin this country economically.
  20. not that great of a debate. the 1st one was more interesting. Edwards came off a lot better (because Cheney has zero charisma and you can trust the guy as far as you can fart), however Cheney got off a lot of great zingers that Edwards didn't respond too. Cheney i think controlled the debate more, and had Edwards on the defensive. p.s. i hate Cheney. I'm tired of Bush, i disagree with a bunch of his decisions, but i don't hate Bush. I want to pee in Cheney's coffee. the guy is slimey and a liar
  21. i know. i didn't even know it had a video. And i bought the album when it came out. I wasn't impressed with AOB when i got it, so i didn't listen to it a whole lot, especially the latter half of the CD.
  22. My Out of Style is Coming Back (holy crap, toughest choice yet!!!) Suburbia Failing The Rorschach Test (i agree, NF is overrated)
  23. i'll give a vote to Hello Time Bomb. The lyrics aren't the happiest, but that song always pumps me up.
  24. i just discovered "Anti-pop", like 2 weeks ago! WTF! great song.
