  1. This has gone from... whatever it was, to this... Well we all know what that means.
  2. ToadMan

    2009 Tour

He played Germany, once upon a time.
  3. Another option is to get a video camera that will stream raw DV. Now that I think about it.
  4. Yes, you can record the audio from another source and put them together. That's probably your best bet. Most webcams do 640x480 (vga) at 29.97 fps. You can get higher res if you are willing to pay for it. For a microphone I can't really speak, I'm not that much of a mic pro.
  5. Sigh, sadly I didn't play it that way. I got sucked into the main story arc... I can say no more without spoilers.
  6. I would make sure you have the newest version, that your machine is updated. I would also make sure that your iPod has the newest version of the OS. If none of that works, can you send me the details of your setup (version of vista + bitness, version of iTunes, type and generation of iPod, version of iPod software). The iPod should work with vista if your USB isn't broken, so it would be worth investigating.
  7. I actually just found out all the companion options by the miracle of the internet. Yes you can get the dog, but you have to know where to find him. Sadly I never did. I just got Fawkes... I had Cross until the whole capture thing... then she took off with my weapons. There are is one other companion you can get regardless of karma too. I'm getting into the endgame quests. Sadly from reading seemingly benign information on companions I spoilt the ending for myself. Oh well, I'm going to play it out over the next few days. I would think about replaying the game, but I'm not sure if I want to play as a different Karma...
  8. That video has some luck going... all of those VATS head shots are only 23% to hit. I'm playing fallout 3 on PS3 right now. I really enjoy the game, but hate the fact that I apparently am to good to get any NPC's. I'm also bitter that I can't get the outcomes I want from certain scenarios (because they don't exist). Other than that, the world is actually pretty immersive, and there is lots of extra content you can get involved with. I also believe that some of the extra content is only available when you play the game a certain way. P.S. I'm not dead.
  9. Maybe they can name their next child Pol Pot?
  10. Utah isn't that far away... but why would I ever go to Utah...
  11. Oh you better believe it ;)
  12. How do I get my own Anton? I mean I don't want to fly through Vancouver and meet you in the men's room... but if I have to, then I suppose I have to...
  13. That doesn't make any sense to me. I guess it depends on how they build the protection circuit. Even the most basic circuit would use a 110v Zener to ground (with some resistance to prevent the fuse from blowing). If anything on breakdown the Zener would become a short and stop providing power. Some quick research indicates that most surge protectors use Metal Oxide Varistors. These devices can only fail as an open circuit if they are continuously operated above their rated voltage, in which case they will have to be constantly dissipating heat which can cause the connecting joint to detach. I would surmise that this only happens in low quality surge protectors, and that it would be unrelated to the number of surges that the bar had protected against. Power usually doesn't surge significantly in voltage when it comes back on. The transient that the power company is worried about is current. When all the heavy appliances come back on they become sudden loads which require the system to deliver a burst of current. That burst can overheat transformers. The generators that the power company uses generally only generate specific voltages, and there is never a reason that they would be stepped up (as the entire system is based on them producing an expected voltage). Turning back on a power trunk will cause a sudden voltage 0-110V (worst case power on at phase peak), but this is no worse than plugging in your computer so it is really irrelevant. You can get a surge above operating voltage if some capacitive load is reconnected back to the system, or an inductive load. Both store energy, and can force it back into the system raising the supply voltage. You will also get a surge if the cause of the power outage was caused by a local lightening strike. The surge from lightening is usually redirected out of the system by the power company fairly quickly (again, it will burn out transformers). At any rate, this is all hit and run. And probably not a lick related to the subject.
  14. Hi all, I got 5 free downloads from the iTunes music store. My musical horizons are kinda limited, and I'm stumped at how to use them. So I would love if everybody could throw out their 5 picks for songs I should get. Cheers!
  15. SASKATOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like going home ;)
  16. I was supposed to go to watch the new bond movie, but the admin in my department can't copy and paste from the internet correctly. I turns out that we all showed up to late to get into the movie that the company was paying for.
  17. The answer to my question is both complex, and relies on understanding the intricacies of an IP block... and I'm probably not supposed to talk about that on a public forum.
  18. Not a PHP expert, but if the try catch functions as it does in most languages with the construct then I can take a stab at it. Usually the catch part of the try-catch terminates the exceptions propagation. If you don't catch an exception it will bubble up, aborting everything in the call stack until it hits something with a handler. In any language I have encounter that supports the it, there is a highest level handler, which exits your code. So since the catch should stop the exception (and in theory puts the system back into an expected state) then the code will continue after the catch regardless of it there was an exception thrown in the try. Anybody every worked on a mircocontroller writing an interrupt based UART driver?
  19. If you can see it or hear it, you can save it. Any protection against that is purely on the honour system (the app has to refuse to do it). On my mac I have an app called SeaTubes, which basically hijacks the flv stream out of the browser cache. You can get similar PC apps.
  20. Anton, I want my 4:17 back please.
  21. Oh wow, I never realized the franchise parallels until now. I like SG-1... I like Atlantis, but haven't watched it as closely. I never really liked the fact that the Stargate series was so connected, but they chose to keep it so separate. It just never made sense to me why they wouldn't have mixed the two more often. I'm not feeling it for the perspective for the new series. I dunno... I think they ran out most of the cool stuff already.
  22. I'm surprised you all didn't just download the videos... I never watch youtube videos on youtube...
  23. I'll just quickly troll in. I don't think that anybody has hit on the darkness of it yet. Matt makes a lot of commentary about the homeless crisis in Vancouver. I have a feeling that the album might be a tad on the gritty side about this.
  24. Simple search tends to disagree with you. I would have to say that Matt himself says the biography can't be very good. According to his blog nobody close to him, nor he himself where interviewed for a biography.
  25. Saskatchewan has a labour shortage because employers won't pay enough money. It's the sad fact. My home town of Saskatoon has a housing market that is going through the roof (in perspective to it's history). Employers just won't pay enough. I got told that as a University grad with 2 degrees I couldn't earn enough to pay a mortgage on a small 2 bedroom condo?!?. I moved to California for an offer that is more than double the Saskatchewan going rate for my profession. Now I realize that is bias because they labour shortage is likely more limited to manual labour jobs (I know construction companies where offering walk on site employment to any ticketed trade worker before I left). What usually gets missed is that there isn't any workers because people have been leaving the province for years, meaning people who would potentially work those trades have long since gone to Alberta where the money is. Anyway, that could even be a thread of it's own. On that note, the capitalist debate could also be a thread of it's own (and I believe there is one of those around). I encourage you to continue to debate it, but I encourage it in a different location... unless you can make it some how relevant to the topic at hand. I apologize for the irony of being off topic only to then caution about being off topic. ;)
