Despite the fact that my vinyl collection is slowly growing, I started it as a collecting hobby (thank you Avalanche on ebay for 40 bucks 10 years ago!), but now I actually want a record player to listen to these bad boys. I don't need anything super fancy, and compact if possible will be helpful as space in the apartment is limiting. Budgeting about $150 to $200 and I would be using a bass guitar amplifier as sound output (it has 1/4 inch and 1/8 inch inputs, which is nice for a practice amp). This one caught my eye, but am willing to listen to other recc's http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B002GYTPAE/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1IXYKK015RSFJ&coliid=I3L67J5H7BM6ZJ

I would seriously doublecheck lyrics/liner notes for typos for free. -

Upcoming Concerts
AnOceanPearl replied to a topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
Explosions in the Sky is releasing a new album in April and have said they're going to tour extensively in 2016/2017, so I'm excited for that. One of the best concerts I've ever been to was seeing them at the Vogue. Kandle is also gearing up to record another album, so hopefully she makes it back west this year as well. -
There is Only One Jimmy Grimble if I recall correctly.

Are the links broken for anyone else?

I remember when Finboy bought the Tonemaster from you and my friend and I went to pick it up. We still talk about how beautiful that property is.

I feel like we should start a pool: What arrives first - back catalogue or CN? -
I imagine for Matt a lot of it nowadays is a health concern. Seems every tour prior to Vancouver (which seems to be when he really stopped the after show signing bits) we heard about him getting sick.

I was really stoked about the whole catalogue coming out, but I am only gonna get BM/HM this go around, and the only other one I'll probably get is AoB whenever that happens. Have all the solo stuff that's been released, and I don't feel the need to be a completionist like I may have felt a few years ago, so I'm just gonna pick my faves out of the line up. -
I think one of the difficulties of Flight Recorder is that it's in Drop D-flat tuning and guitar(s) would have to be set up specifically for it. I think, unlike Carmelina, which is in the same tuning on AoB, but has been rearranged for live play, Flight Recorder would lose a lot of substance without that lower end sound.

I love that Matt and Stu both have the Union "More" fuzz pedal - local company, and they make great stuff - their Sub Buzz is one of the best bass fuzz pedals I've ever heard and for me at least, was well worth the price tag. Ryan Dahle, Megan Bradfield and Dan Mangan all use Union pedals as well. Have been considering a nano-POG for my own board as an upgrade (or at least a sidestep) to the Boss OC-2, and Bones using it is helping me lean in that direction.

Vinyl update

During the 2nd night in Vancouver, my wife and I were behind a couple and the girl was having a blast and the guy was totally just there because she was and it was kind of a bummer.

I haven't seen this mentioned, but for anyone who didn't know and was curious, the sound clips Matt is playing at the start of the show are all from Dr Strangelove.
-
I love you for Protest Song. Even though I have a video of it from the HM-acoustic tour. Still love you.

I've seen around 20 shows in various types of venues since 2000 and I have never seen him do that, so it was pretty cool. Kinda confusing on Friday when I was on the balcony and Girls in Black seemed like it was being sang by some disembodied voice from the ether. But still cool.

This was during the In A Coma tour (where I heard Suburbia as well!). I got Rat and Advertising at the show I went to, which was swell.
-
I took only a cursory glance at the pedal pictures, but I like that Matt and Stu are both using the Union Tube and Transistor "More" fuzz pedal - made in Vancouver! I have their bass fuzz and it's amazing.
