  2. I didn't have high expectations. My friend downloaded it so I thought, "yeah, what the hell...send it to me." My goodness. It is honestly their worst album to date. I actually have strong hatred towards Maladroit especially and even that album is significantly better than this. The album has its share of forgettable ballads as seen from Make Believe but it also have really awful "fun" songs like 'Everybody Get Dangerous' where he free-styles and rhymes in the song with cliched play-on words and hooks. I thought about this and then after talking to my brother, we agree that this sounds like a really bad Everclear album. You'd think Pork & Beans was a sign that they're trying mediocrity and poorly attempting to go back to their roots of Blue and Pinkerton but no, it turned out worse than one could imagine. Hell, Pork & Beans is one of the better tracks on the cd. There's one track, 'The Greatest Man Ever Lived' is I admit, an ambitious song and is a standout (not necessarily in a good way) as they come off trying to pull their version of Jesus of Suburbia or something (5 random songs thrown into one track). The song opened with a moog synth so I thought: "oooh this has potential" but eh...the song itself was way too pretentious. In all, the album is really bad and there's no way the critics will like this album--but again, I said the same thing about the latest REM release.
  3. haha yeah that song is questionable. i left that cd playing in the car one day and my brother said to me "i didn't know you listened to maroon 5?". i'm not sure what were the motivation in the vocals of that song but the rest of the album owns. wow, i didn't know Take Me To The Riot was #3 on the Edge's Thursday 30...damn straight.
  4. thank you. there's a lot there! edit: these are really, really great but do you or anyone else know any sites (ie: message boards a la the old etceteraforums.org) that features albums/genres to download in sub-categories and that aren't scattered by dates in a blog?
  5. it sounded like a fantomas album to me more than anything. i wanted something along the lines of mit gas--not filler.
  6. hi, haven't been here in a while and for the most part, haven't paid attention to music for about the past 5-6 months. my new years resolution is to really get back into music. i wrote down what my favourite albums were in the best of 2007 thread and what not but looking through it, there's lot a probably should hear. in the past, i had other music downloading forums that i stole music off of but all of those sites keep getting shut down, for example: i really liked ecetera forums. does anyone know any of those kinds of sites that new and old indie/alternative albums can be downloaded off? looking at the aforementioned thread, i want to really hear the latest animal collective album but i have nowhere to gain it from. also, i do not use bit torrents so do not dare to suggest that to me. i would like to hear the newest bloc party cd as well. call me a racist but he actually sounds like the singer of the dears to me and that's pretty neat. i have three spoon albums and didn't even hear ga ga ga ga ga. i might as well give eddie vedder's album a listen AND there's a lot of unfamiliar bands that i saw in the top albums of 2007 thread that i wouldn't mind looking into and loving to discover music again. in summary, any great websites where i can download albums off of and that hasn't been taken down yet? bye.
  7. 10 pages and not a single person mentioned 'in our bedroom after the war' by stars???? other albums that were mentioned earlier that were great to me: kevin drew arcade fire (i hate how people forget about albums that came out earlier in the year--especially on like 'end of the year review countdowns' modest mouse (see above) wintersleep explosions in the sky (underrated on this forum) radiohead good: silverchair dinosaur jr nin jesu battles (little overrated, tortoise is better) rob crow matthew good foo fighters album was actually good but didn't even buy tegan and sara meh: tomahawk bad: smashing pumpkins jimmy eat world chris cornell didn
  8. even though my girlfriend and I had tickets, we didn't make it to the show.
  9. TWO DAYS! The error returned was: Sorry, Your post must be longer than 8 characters. BBCode does not count.. happy now?
  10. the bends is overrated. If songs like Bones were on Pablo Honey, people would tear it up.
  11. well the Wintersleep show last year was packed at The Underground so better get them soon considering it's The Casbah. However, picked my ticket a few days ago and it was #102/300 so you should be good. OH YES, the new album OWNS the first two albums. Love it so much.
  12. highlights include: Nude, All I Need, Videotape and Bodysnatchers.
  13. GREAT album. Not sure if it's better than Kid A/OK Computer but worth the 4 year wait.
  14. A friend of mine hounded me about listening to this immediately. Apparently, it's as good (or better) than OK Computer/Kid A. I'm at 15% downloading.
  15. *HI-FIVE*...I'm SO gonna be there. The new album is amaaazing. Maybe even better than the first two. The only problem is that the doors open at 10:30...what the fuck is that?
  16. where did you guys hear the new album?
  17. Psychic Hearts is amazing. I haven't heard the new album.
  18. I'm on track 3 and it's already better than In Your Honour. But In Your Honour (disc 1) was the definition of cookie-cutter filler rock songs. Hell? The Last Song? Free Me? Please. End Over End is one of the most generic closers I've heard. HOWEVER, on track 5 now and pretty impressed. So far, it's as well-rounded as there's nothing left to lose. Musically, I can definitely sense that they're aiming for another The Colour and The Shape. Another comment: he's not screaming like an idiot like he did in Disc 1 from In Your Honour. This is definitely the colour and the shape part II. Time for another edit: throw Colour and the Shape, There's Nothing Left To Lose and Disc 2 of In Your Honour into a blender and you get this. Now I agree with what Borntohula is saying. It does have a classic rock feel a little bit to this but I enjoy this piano arrangement in the song I currently have on. Again, Ain't It The Life is my favourite song on TINLTL so I have no complaints. This album's solid.
  19. I haven't listened to it yet but I thought disc one of In Your Honour was just awful.
  20. Ha, I missed this ENTIRE survivor but the two best songs remain--so in reality, I missed nothing.
  21. I haven't been here in a while. I might come back more often...but probably not. Anyway, does anyone know any bands that are similar to Neutral Milk Hotel? Yes, you could be a smart-ass and say "go look at AMG" but they usually just throw together random bands for similarities. In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is probably the best album of the '90s.
  22. Wow, this is very, very interesting on Concert Hall!
  23. I forgot how much the second half of the cd is better than the first. Lemme edit some of my shit here: I think Matt Good has officially crossed into Alt. Country territory (this is good!) My favourite songs on the album in order (though the songs are arranged very well together as is): 1) Champions Of Nothing 2) 99% Of Us Is Failure 3) I'm A Window (might even be too good for a single...but besides, the swearing can be edited easily) 4) Girl Wedged Under The Front Of The Firebird 5) She's In it For The Money 6) Moon Over Marin (this reminds me of disc 2 of Foo Fighters 'In Your Honour' album except actually being good) 7) Black Helicopter 8) Born Losers 9) A Single Explosion 10) The Devil's In Your Details (there's your second single...along the lines of In Love With A Bad Idea though a much better song) 11) Odette (for some reason, I think of Daughtry's second single "Home" when I hear this, which can't be good--either way, 11th place is fair) 12) True Love Will Find You In The End 13) I Am Not Safer Than A Bank 14) The Boy Came Home 15) Metal Airplanes
