hindsight is 20/20, but i am kicking myself that i didn't see Tool after Lateralus came out
-
without giving anything away, I agree that the last "twist" seemed tacked on.... similar to the surprise twist at the end of Dollhouse (for the Whedon fans out there)
-
i totally agree on basically all aspects.... that being said, after recently watching the prequels (after force awakens) I would say that the dialogue is so poor that It is almost jarring, bordering on amateur, and some of the acting is just as bad. I just recently re-watched episode 3, and while at the time found it "not so bad" compared to the first two, found it almost cringe-worthy on rewatch. While I don't think that the star Wars universe needed anything added to the original trilogy (and maybe even a re-do to the 3rd installment), I didn't mind the new movie. Starkiller base did ruin the movie for me, though. I've given JJ a lot of slack through the years, but this was unforgivable and a bit of a slap to the face for me. There was enough re-hash up until that point, they didn't need to make another death star... it makes no sense, they could have done the last third of the movie very similar without falling back on that trope. All this did ws make me highly skeptical of episode eight and nine being re-hashes as well.

i watched the whole series on a long international flight, and while it lagged in a few spots, I really enjoyed it.... found it a little bit over the top gratuitous in terms of nudity and violence, but the story was good... and really, it felt like a cinematic version of a MMORPG, which was kind of cool

don't want to give anything away, but the soundtrack is fantastic! season 2 is definitely on par with, if not better than season 2 (I would say, that it is a little bit more uneven than the first season, but that the overall scope is way bigger than season 1... and definitely opens up the universe for several future seasons!)
-
if you liked season 1, you will like season 2 for sure.
-
ya, i am 8 episodes in and really enjoying it (took a couple of days break to get through stranger things, but i will be back at it soon)

The second i started listening to the song, I realized the same thing

that was super interesting. I love that the first recorded fade out was on the Planets, it has to be one of my favourite classical albums

New Our Lady Peace
folk singer replied to foats's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
first I've heard. I'll give it a listen and let you know what I think. Honestly, I haven't really connected with anything they've put out since Healthy in Paranoid Times (although the following albums do have their moments). -
I saw OLP live for the first time last year, and I thought they played well, and Raine's voice was pretty good for the most part (didn't think he sang too low, and only went off key a couple of times as far as I could tell). That being said, I have heard a lot of their live material, and its been very hit and miss, especially Raine's vocals (even as far back as their gravity album).... so my experience may very well be an anomaly, who knows full disclosure: I was a huge fan back in the day, and we had wicked seats so my opinion may not be completely objective

Upcoming Concerts
folk singer replied to a topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
I don't really like Reflektor as an album either.... but most of those songs absolutely kicks ass in concert -
The commodore is always amusing. Funniest part of my night was the guy behind me constantly asking where Dave Genn was. Once I made eye contact, he kept asking me if I was Dave Genn, and if my wife was Tamara Taggart. Of the available encore configurations, I think that was my ideal (3rd night).

I'd love to hear these songs revisited: The inescapable us Look happy, it's the end of the world Invasion 1 Change of season Deep six
-
my wife would lose her shit if he played advertising on police cars in the encore (we missed it last tour)... Also, definitely buying a shirt

Its weird, but reading comments all over the bored about the new EP, it seems that most everyone prefers the new "Lets get it on" to the original. I personally find Dave's guitar in the original (especially as the song builds and then breaks out) to give me goosebumps every time. Obviously I have a nostalgic connection to the originals, but I really enjoy all of the EP songs (have to be in the right mood for "load me up" though) in their own way. I am most looking forward to the songs that weren't on the EP for the concert though (FTRT, ABAHMG, RFH, especially). I am really interested to see how true to the album some of these songs will be... I would imagine that the EP songs will be played as is (except Load me up).

I am soo jealous! his melodies blow my mind, especially for FFV-FFVIII If you like orchestra music, I think you will like it. Obviously having a strong connection to the songs (especially growing up listening to them) tilts my opinion heavily, but I think he is a genius. Its very lyrical in delivery and makes you feel the feels (again, strong opinion). I would youtube some of the original songs and give them a listen. It will give you an idea of what you will hear, and I always enjoy a concert more if at least some of the songs are recognizable -
Looks Like Vinyl Releases Of Back Catalog Are Coming
folk singer replied to mrjason's topic in Matthew Good
I would buy an audio of being vinyl in a heartbeat. I think sonically it would stand out, and you could probably pick up on some new nuances that are less obvious on the digital copy -
i agree that singles are the most likely, some combo of: All you sons and daughters last parade non populous (although zero orchestra would be cool if possible some how) had it coming born losers alert status red weapon apparitions everything is automatic likely have a couple in rotation to keep the shows a little different from night to night, maybe up to 8 possibilities? depending on how many encore songs he actually plays but i'd love to hear a MGB focused hits encore: Symbolistic white walls fated Everything is automatic the fine art of falling apart literally ANYTHING from AOB: Carmelina, Advertising on police cars, and SOAPS would be the obvious choices
-
I would die if the encore for this tour was the Underdogs singles, probably in this order: Indestructible Rico Apparitions Everything is Automatic how fun would that be? Rico and Antipop would be an awesome encore.... and hilarious

It is a little strange, it would seem to make the most sense (for posterity) to release something like this in a "milestone" year after release (i.e. 10, 20, 25, etc).... but I am crazy impatient, so 17 years seems like a perfect milestone year to me.
