  1. No, He definitely has played Tripoli Live, I remember him seeing it acoustic on the "In a Coma" Tour. He has played quite a few of them live, but they are always quite diferent from the originals. I remember seeing Rat who would be king live during "white light rock and roll revue" tour, and it was great.... but there was definitely something missing (the crazy beeping as the song climaxing for one), and carmelina acoustic during his acoustic tour, along with SOAPS. Personally my fav MG(B) album.
  2. I'm currently reading: As I Lay Dying (Faulkner) and trying to get into the SilverChair (Lewis). I heard that As I Lay Dying is supposed to be this dark comedy, not really finding it to be that so much, but then again, I'm fairly big into Vonnegut so it's kind of an unfair comparison in terms of the "dark comedy" department.
  3. I also agree, it's really noticeable on AoB.... most of those songs still give me chills when I listen really closely to them (especially: Man of Action, Workers and Under the influence) and I think for the most part it's style of Dave's guitar complimenting Matt's rhythm
  4. Fall of man would be sick...
  5. man, If only they could arrange a Dexter-CSI: Miami crossover. I would kill to see H-dawg (Heratio) and Dexter battle it out. ........ The one liners would be fantastic, with all the "sunglasses being put on" greatness we all expect
  6. hmm... Tough. Top ten in no particular order: Batman: the animated series X-men ST: TNG X-files LOST Six Feet Under Seinfeld Simpsons South park Family Guy I'm really liking Californication, Fringe and Heroes right now... cant really justify adding them to the list. There should really be a thread about all the guilty pleasure shows that most people forget like Seven Days and Relic Hunter
  7. these two sentences contradict one another, so i won't even bother responding to them. if watchmen is to be a film at all, then it should at the very least make an effort to distance itself from the comic and make itself unique. the fact that it is simply in a different medium does not make it any more purposeful or original. it wasn't only a book about a weird group of superheroes, it was also a comic about comics themselves, and that aspect is a significant part of what makes watchmen special in the first place. to make it into a film, that has to be taken into account and acknowledged, and perhaps toyed-with and changed to make the film its own autonomous experience. that said, i am looking forward to seeing it. just to clarify, When I said "Shot for shot", I probably should have said "scene for scene", as I meant that although the content of the scene may be the same, how it is conveyed would be different because of the aspect of motion, sound, etc (things that would be added to the film medium that aren't present in the original comic form). This would give the same scene something that it didnt have in the original format. I hope this clarifies my point and removes the appearance of contradiction. I also never meant to imply that you said something that you didnt, I said: "you may say" as my own defence to a possible retort to the previous statement.
  8. First of all, there is no way that this movie will be an exact "shot for shot" adaptation, because in order to make a movie that's less than 4 hrs long, they half to cut out about half the material. And of the material that will be covered? Ya, It'll probably be straight out of the comic, but really.... who was stoked about the way that peter jackson "reinvented" the two towers? Because I was pissed, I would have way rather had a clean translation. You may say it's different because there is no visuals in a novel, but Watchmen is relatively hard to get through for people that are used to "pretty" comics. Not to mention the fact that each "medium" of publication has a different ability to convey something in a certain way, regardless of how similar the content is. Obviously, in a novel the reader is left to their own visual interpretations, but gets a better feel for what the characters are thinking, feeling, etc. In a movie it's almost quite the opposite. A movie and a comic are even quite different in terms of what can be done in the medium. In this respect I can see the validity of a straight translation between any two mediums.
  9. I agree with you, almost 100%. I definitely thought his voice was off on the CD, especially compared to the times I've seen him live, where he was frickin' amazing. I remember seeing him Live solo acoustic at the Van East Cultural Center. It was basically the best set list ever, I would kill for that on CD. One of the best concerts I've ever been too... It helps that I was front and center, close enough to reach out and touch him if I stood up.
  10. For "Vancouver National Anthem" I think the verse in question is "Alien Freaks" BTW
  11. I've only heard this and "The boy who could explode"... and needless to say, I'm friggin' stoked. This is the best stuff I've heard since Avalanche
  12. Entwhistle of the Who was also a crazy bassist
  13. I don't mind it for their songs that are weird and hip-esque like scared, or titanic terrarium, but it annoys me on the songs I find more bland like daredevil.
  14. well, I know he played it when i saw him at the comodore in vancouver like two years ago.
  15. I used to have this mixed Cd of all my favourite Matt songs.... must have been in and around the time that White Light came out. That worked pretty well, as well as AOB and Loser Anthems. My mix was something like this: symbolistic white walls fearless Inescapable us prime time deliverance fated i miss new wave suburbia man from harold wood fine art of falling apart truffle pigs the rat who would be king Sort of a Protest song weapon avalanche house of smoke and mirrors
  16. i think i remember hearing that during his first acoustic tour (when he was still humouring some of the fans yelling requests) he tried to start playing it and couldn't remember how it went, so he stopped. I also remember him saying somewhere that he wrote a lot of those songs to be played open with weird tuning, and since he never played any of them in concert because of the trauma surrounding the band break up, he just totally forgot how to play them. I think that the AOB songs that he started playing acoustically (carmelina, tripoli, advertising on police cars, truffle pigs and SOAPS) sound different because of this (as well as the ones that he played with the full band like The Rat Who Would Be King).
  17. i agree, especially the last half of the album.
  18. Lasanby (sp) was the guy from "secret service". Dalton's "living daylights" and "licence to kill" are generally the ones that no one remembers, and probably for good reason (I personally didnt really like the guy). I had a convo with a buddy earlier about bond movies and we concurred that "casino" was good because it showed bond as a human being, much like "secret service"....and not a robot like many of the other films. And yes, the ice palace/ lasers from diamonds likely made flemming roll in the grave.
  19. the Afghan Whigs version of the Supremes' "Come See About Me" is pretty wicked too BTW
  20. I probably do too... I don't particularly like Matt's, but for me the original version is hands down the best
