  1. yeah i was wondering about that myself... how much of their reputation is based on that song. i think i'll check out those albums soonish.
  2. exactly. thanks for backing me up on that one, anton.
  3. i can't tolerate morrissey at this point. one of my friends with horrible taste in music likes them a lot, so it's made me want to steer clear of the band for now. i'm sure they're good. i like what ive heard by them, but that's never been a full album.
  4. my emoticons were directed at the sentence itself, not what it was saying. yeah, i agree. at least thornley's vocals dont sound all groggy and hoarse live. whenever i hear cornell live, i just keep thinking he should clear his throat. its gross.
  5. ;) but yeah, they were alright. never picked up an album though. thornley kinda seems like a chris cornell knockoff amirite? i like his voice, but i can't help but think it...
  6. i totally posted that ages ago. maybe you even got it from me, haha. good post anyways.
  7. yeah. i definitely got the feeling after icky thump that jack white had a better definition of what the white stripes were after he had done the raconteurs thing. so while i like the effect that the raconteurs had on the white stripes, i'm not sure how i feel about the raconteurs themselves. i liked the first album, but haven't really listened to it lately and so i'm not really pining for more raconteurs at the moment. i would seriously contest the notion that they're a supergroup in any sense of the word because a) it's a silly term to begin with and b) if you were still set on applying it, sillyness-be-damned, tell me who doesn't think of the raconteurs as just "jack white's other band"... no one calls it "brendan benson's other band" or "those dudes from the greenhornes' other band"... while i'm sure all the members of the raconteurs are super, "supergroup" usually means all the members are either well known in terms of success, cult following or at least kick ass at their instrument. sorry if im coming off like a dink. i just don't like to see good bands like the raconteurs coupled in with shite bands like audioslave or army of anyone.
  8. this thread fails. what we need is a good dose of the cat sex thread. far more entertaining/educational.
  9. hooray! has anyone not received one? i know shiri probably hasn't because her person hasn't even sent it out, i don't think.
  10. hahah understood. same here, but it seemed as though that summer (2006?) there was no escaping either the raconteurs or gnarls barkley.
  11. i think we need more discussion going on in this part of the forum. as satisfying as it is to see what you're all listening to, one song at a time, let's try to talk about music a little bit. i'll start with a not-so-easy question: what is punk rock (to you)? "to you" is in parentheses because it's evident to most people, but some still manage to get upset whenever i don't agree with what they're saying. anyway, is punk rock an ideal? a sound? a way of life? an attitude? a term for prison sex? all of these things? does it still exist, or did it only exist at a certain period of time? can a person be "punk" or is it only reserved for music? is it even just in regard to music? for example, who is more punk rock? sid vicious? chuck d? patty hearst? john cage? ani difranco? bob dylan? naomi klein? someone else? have i missed something?! discuss!!
  12. that's not pavement! try this link, prometheon: http://x169.blogspot.com/2008/03/pavement-...en-corners.html
  13. lucky that you got to see him at all. was he by himself or with a backing band? i found that some of the live stuff he did towards the end with a "rock band" was kinda shite (stuff i've seen on DVDs and whatnot). like making "eternal life" a "rock" song. buckley would be cool. imma have to add david bowie to the list as well. preferably during his berlin era or before, but i'd love to see him even now, before he kicks it.
  14. shouldn't this be in the music thread? nick cave & the bad seeds are at the top of the list. like sodamntired, i would also enjoy seeing the stooges. theres something about seeing them in a "reunion tour" lineup that just isn't the same. id want to see them in a divey club somewhere, not some stadium.
  15. word. genghis tron rock my socks. and then some. how's the new torche album?
  16. yeah ever since you wrote about google blogsearch the first time, i've been using it quite regularly to find albums, either new or old, and it works quite well. you just have to know what you're looking for.
  17. hahahaha aw, well i hope you get the time! i'll post the tracks myself sometime this weekend, so others can check it out.
  18. that's kindof retarded, but i suppose i understand it to some degree... helps keep with the secrecy of releasing an album like that. i doubt it'll be the same next time... i think this round was just to test the waters. the website did seem very unprepared for the volume of traffic that it got though. i was able to access it fine, although i never actually ordered anything.
  19. ive been listening to it in bits and pieces. it sounds alright.
  20. yeah. it's good for keeping up with people who i'm on good terms with, but might not want to talk to on a daily basis. or can't. i don't use msn as often as i used to, so this has kinda taken the place of that. i still think that it's a very superficial form of interaction... from the pictures you post, to the interests/activities/favorites you cite, and even the way people talk to one another... but if you don't take it seriously, and are aware of its superficiality, then i think that's alright. in order to be obnoxious, my lady tried adding as many applications as she could. it was crazy. she has since toned it down, but for awhile, her page was filled with the most useless crap.
  21. $75 for the police isnt bad given how crazy people got for them this past year. i think anything over $100 probably isn't worth it, regardless of who it's for. i shake my head at those individuals who go nuts for U2 tickets and spend hundreds to thousands of dollars for tickets. i think at this point, the only artist whom i'd be tempted to pay more than $100 for would be david bowie. just because i don't think he has that many more world tours in him. i've paid for some $75 dollar tickets before, but all of the shows i have done that for involved bands i thoroughly enjoy. even the openers: tool, with tomahawk opening, tool with isis opening, nine inch nails with queens of the stonage and DFA1979 opening.
  22. i dont think you need to be from the 70s to like elvis costello.
  23. so, in two days, the $300 packages have all sold out. there were 2,500 copies pressed. therefore, $750,000. that's not even accounting for all the $5,$10, and $75 purchases made in those two days, or in the days to follow. trent reznor is making a lot of money and simultaneously taking a wrecking ball to what's left of the record companies. well done.
