he's good but wildly inconsistent. i like him well enough, though. -

saaay whaaaaat?! it's different, but it's definitely not their weakest. i like that they use no samples at all... it completely distances this record from their previous material while still maintaining that harrowing and extremely dark quality to their music that we've come to expect. keep listening to it... it'll grow on you. it took me awhile, but it's like nothing i've ever heard before. good egg for starting this topic, though. i made a point to, but kept forgetting. its nice to talk about something that isn't oasis or "death cab." -

i've got the duper sessions album, which is definitely his best. -
for those of you who haven't heard of them, the last shadow puppets are a band comprised of alex turner of the arctic monkeys, miles kane from the rascals, and james ford from simian mobile disco. their debut album, the age of understatement also features string arrangements from owen pallett of final fantasy. has anyone heard this album yet? what are your thoughts? i haven't listened to it yet, but i'm interested because i really dislike the arctic monkeys and i want to see if turner is capable of doing anything different. apparently this album is a kind of tribute to the baroque pop style of people like scott walker, and as a fan of walker and the walker brothers, i'm definitely interested in seeing if the last shadow puppets can pull it off. also, turner, ford and pallett seem like an odd combination, so i want to hear how they sound together.

Lola Vs. the Powerman & the Money-Go-Round, Pt. 1 this album kicks a lot of ass. some of the songs from it were taken for the darjeeling limited soundtrack. -

what do people think of kensington heights? i think it's hit and miss, but there are some really great songs on it. in general, i don't have that much of a problem with the record, it just depends on what mood i'm in. -

it's not all that different from what they've done before, the guitars just have more balls. it's still chris martin sitting at a piano wailing about something. it's not bad though. -
i don't think that's what he meant.

which CD did you buy? breaking kayfabe or afterparty babies? both are great. i've been a fan of his for awhile now. he's awesome live. i'll be seeing him with buck 65 this weekend actually... good to hear you liked the show. -
that's not a new trend. that "trend" has been around since NAFTA and even before it. while these corporations might be providing jobs and salaries to families in countries outside of north america, the only motivation behind those corporations being in countries like china is money, not so that they can improve the lifestyle of chinese families. these corporations support governments that have lax worker's rights, or none at all, promoting violence and terrible working conditions so that you and i can buy something at wal-mart, the gap, roots, or anywhere else for a lot less than it would cost to have it made locally. it's not just a service for us, either. these companies are saving loads by making clothes cheaply in other countries, and doing it in mass amounts. you do not make an economy better by enslaving it's population. china will not benefit from north american corporations employing it's population for dollars a day. while your logic that "some money is better than no money at all" makes some sense, you'd have to consider that the money that these people are getting is barely adequate to their the cost of living. as you pointed out, china has a growing economy. $1 a day doesn't cut it. and even if people were able to somehow have savings from their salary, what do you think will happen? they'll have better living conditions at home and demand the same at work. as soon as people start demanding proper rights, the corporations either get the government to interfere, or they leave, which leaves those people, who grew completely reliant on some foreign corporation, jobless. "Furthermore, the country is going to eventually take over America as a financial superpower" is a really poor justification for buying free trade. "it's inevitable, we might as well support it." i don't believe in boycotts much myself, as you do not enter into any sort of dialogue or discussion by doing so. it doesn't address the problem, nor does it provide a useful solution. at the same time, continuing to buy products made in china, south america, or any other area that supports poor worker's rights just because you have some notion of "white civility" (the logic that canada is good and we're doing the chinese a favor by taking advantage of their system) beaten into your brain is nonsense. there are two documentaries that are easily found in your public library and address this issue of fair trade quite well. one is the corporation and the other is the take. the latter of the two is a film made by avi lewis and naomi klein. i'd also recommend just looking "fair trade" up on the internet.

yeah i doubt you would like them now... unless you had a big crush on mark hamill or something. if it wasn't beaten into you as a child, then it probably won't happen.
