  1. i haven't listened to it yet but from what i've read, people seem to be saying that the songs are relatively good, but not good as pop.
  2. i don't have that on file, but i do have his first album, for him and the girls, which will at least tide you over until you get your hands on what you're looking for. i think it's better than lover/fighter and is also a better introduction to his stylezzzz. hawksley workman - for him and the girls
  3. it's expensive and there are lots of people. but that's the case with any big city, and seeing as how you're gunning for two of the biggest in canada, my guess is that these things won't be much of an issue for you. as far as the people are concerned, i haven't really noticed an overall difference between the people from where i live (20 minutes or so from toronto) and the people who populate toronto itself. so either i'm used to it or that people in toronto aren't different, there's just more of them. i used to like big cities, but now i prefer smaller communities like guelph, for their charm and local businesses.
  4. while toronto can be fairly expensive, if you plan to move there with your friend, sharing a place isn't that bad. as prometheon mentioned, areas that are still in toronto but not considered downtown, like high park or st. clair west, are pretty affordable if you've got a roommate. there's plenty of opportunity here in your field. my good friend from highschool is into graphic design and although it took him a little while to find a job, he's currently working for some firm or something and enjoying it quite abit. also, like others have mentioned, toronto is cool at first but not somewhere you want to stick around for long. i'll be living there next year and maybe a bit after as my girlfriend does some post-grad stuff, but as soon as she's done, we're getting the heck out.
  5. it depends on where you are. i've watched episodes of planet earth before on my zen, but i was on a bus going from sudbury to toronto and would have been incredibly bored otherwise. it was shaky as heck, though. i also think that that show lends itself to being watched "portably" because of the narration. you can take your eyes away from the screen for a moment and not miss much. the difference between watching a film on an mp3 player and playing a video game on a DS or PSP is that films aren't made with the intention of being seen on such small screens, whereas those pocket video games are. i'm sorry for opening up the "intention" can of worms, but there it is. try watching any of those bourne identity films on a bus, or anything else that's been mostly shot with a handheld camera. it can't be done. not for long, anyways. like anton said, you strain your eyes too much and the picture is incredibly hard to follow. also, i'm not sure if ipods are backlit, but my zen sure isn't, and so any glare i get on the screen engulfs the entire thing, making it incredibly difficult to discern what's happening, especially if the picture is already dark.
  6. yeah. i've tagged all my MGB songs on my computer as simply "matthew good." as matt's written before, he's perfectly happy being solo. if he doesn't like something, he has the power to change it and doesn't have to worry about dealing with three other heads to butt with first. i think how he recruited this new band is a bit weird, but i have yet to see them live, so i can't really say as to whether or not it really works. the avalanche and WLRRR era band was great though. they were more or less "recruited" by him as well, and i got the impression that they worked really well together. live, at least. it'd be fun to see him collaborate with other people in the future though. whether it's a full time band or just a one-off side project.
  7. four and a half stars?! jesus christ they're out of touch.
  8. hahah she's hoping to absorb his songwriting skills. i'm not a courtney hater... i just think she's a bit loopy. as far as her music is concerned, i haven't heard anything by hole or her solo stuff aside from the singles, so i can't really say much. i agree with meg: she was bad in sid and nancy, but that movie was pretty shit to begin with.
  9. HEEEEEEEY BO DIDDLEY (HEEEEY BO DIDDLEY)
  10. who gives a shit? they're ashes. i suppose this is karma's way of getting back at courtney for keeping his ashes in a teddy bear.
  11. i like jose in junip better. they do a great cover of springsteen's "the ghost of tom joad." i'll try to find it.
  12. isn't there a thread for this album already???? only like three or four threads down the page?? learn to use the search function.
  13. i think machine gun is awesome. it's intense... and the beat is like a perverted version of the one from "blue monday." i don't doubt that this album isn't for everybody, but i can't resist beth gibbons' voice, or the really sparse, bleak music.
  14. imo, iyo, i don't like it as much as feathers or their older stuff, but it does have some good songs on it. EDIT: you're welcome, meg.
  15. sondre lerche - duper sessions (again)
  16. dang, that's it? why didn't you say so?
  17. i've noticed he's a bit on the crazy side. didn't he at one point put all of his material on the internet?
  18. i'm not much of a fan of green day, but i'm guessing some of you folks are. the news about green day's alter-ego-band is old, but their album arrives just this week, so i was wondering if any of you would be downloading or buying the album? why or why not?
  19. hmmm weird. it works for me. i'll look into it.
  20. ;) Sondre Lerche & the Faces Down Quartet - Duper Sessions
  21. yeah i heard this in a live recording of theirs awhile back. cool song.
  22. haha good point. clearly this new band isn't really made up of people who "matter" though, is it?
