  3. braveheart seems to take no.1 overall braveheart goodfellas a christmas story ferris bueller's day off the incredibles batman returns trainspotting pumping iron dazed and confused the punisher
  4. I wouldn't be surprised. I think that people either rent movies or don't. I don't think ad campaigns really compel people to rent movies more. they probably just threw a large chunk of their revenue out the window.
  5. yeah, a lot of people like freakshow
  6. ah, that doesn't make much sense. that's why i assumed otherwise, my mistake. neon ballroom came out in 99 and it's just as good if not better than freakshow. (better in my opinion)
  7. you are soo right.. Freakshow was the best silverchair album of all time.. Neon Ballroom comes in a close second..in my opinion. but really looking back Freakshow was the best. i dont know how I feel about Diorama.. Daniel's lyrics get more and more abstract and disconnected. I kinda liked some of the dissociatives stuff.. over 4 million people disagree with you lol. (97 was freakshow, saturnine meant he hoped they recorded a good album instead of that) freakshow was a big disappointment to many people. frogstop has the simplest and catchiest riffs, ever, so it's easy to understand why many people only like that album. neon ballroom onward requires an acquired taste. even so, frogstomp is still my favorite. from top to bottom it's solid. freakshow had too much grunge and not enough rock. I hope they return to rock instead of this weak operatic stuff.
  8. need to pee. favorite gum?
  9. probably because of the words "isolate" and "hoard". although, my prejudice is reasonable. how do I achieve true understanding? should I meditate? destructive wave-length?
  10. yeah that whole flashing black eye thing looks really scary, if youre afraid of ms paint.
  11. Way to go steve, show will farrel how it's done. thank god he wasn't in this one. Really good movie. those two brown guys were hilarious. apparently that waxing scene was real, blood and all. the only bad part of the movie was the ending, because I guess they weren't sure how to end it. But who cares. by that time we could leave anyway. I can't wait for the new season of the Office.
  12. this is one of the most talked about commercials since the "wazzzaap" commercials . it's nice to see a good, clever commercial for once because so many are terrible. the milk commercials suck. the whole "cheesy rap parody" thing was overdone in the 90's. you can tell that some middle aged white advertising execs sat around a table and thought, "oh this is cool".but its just boring. did anyone notice how o'henry ripped off the ranch tooth commercials? instead of a tooth there's a transparent double of the actor and it's his "hunger". the hunger bugs him to eat an ohenry. how original.
  13. you replied to a musicians query thread of mine. that's a one spicy meatball!
  14. how much of their money do they have to give away to be free of criticism based on their success? they never really claimed to be there for unselfish reasons. but nevertheless , I think they thought they were doing their part by spreading awareness. And they did that. so, good for them. It was really interesting watching them debate what to sing for the children... they must have felt really embarrassed because their songs and fame are so trivial when compared to those childrens lives. they write pop punk and are awarded with wealth that those kids can't even comprehend. but I don't think the children really have a concept of america's 'larger than life' celebrities anyway. it's interesting when they interview kids in developing countries about what they aspire to be when they grow up. the answer is usually " teacher, or doctor" because those are the most successful people they know of.
  15. The difference between this example and the example of the parents is that when you shat on the sidewalk, you would know full well the consequences of your actions. When a child is born, it is doubtful that its parents would know what said child would grow up to be. Lauren's example works better than yours does. That's my point. My analogy is better because it's consistent with the point I made. ( I like lauren so i'll argue as friendly as possible lol) Lauren's point was free will. That's fine. that's the typical argument people use. it made sense but that analogy specifically evaded addressing my point. where children represent children, parents represent...God? my entire point was that God is incomparable as the single source for accountability. that theory is christianity, by the way. so you can't just say, "parents have children". If God created everything, there isn't an earthly example you can use to free him from accountability. Maybe you believe that God wasn't all-knowing.Maybe he had the ability to create life without knowing the consequences. if that's the case then it would be reasonable pass responsibility around. But as long as old J.C. knows all and created all, he's responsible for all. you've got to decide what you believe. you can't give god the cake and let him eat it too.
  16. that didn't make any sense.but if you have a point to make, shoot.
  17. thanks for the info, but you'll have to explain what that means. it went straight over my head.
  18. takamine acoustics in general are really good.
  19. I'll give the band credit. they have a real original sound. I'm really picky with singing voices. there's something annoying about a 30 something year old trying to sing like a child.Ben's sounds like a little kid throwing a screaming tantrum in a grocery store or something. and his style kind of creeps me out, he might aswell go all the way and wear a halter-top. the coolest thing about that band is definitely their guitarists hair.
  20. That analogy doesn't work because my parents did not create existence. God is incomparable, according to Christians. While using christian logic, it's impossible to justify God without backtracking and being a copout. my point still stands.
  21. haha. everyone always tries to be cynically cool. assuming there was no other way to attain the music, I'd probably be willing to pay atleast 150 each for underdogs and BM. I don't buy a lot of music. I'd rather buy those two albums than 15 or so crappy cd's.
  22. "Elin and Agnes are a pair of teenage girls trapped in the small town of Amal, an isolated place where nothing ever happens. After an accidental kiss, the two girls must learn about themselves and their identities." These two swedish girls struggle with the adversities of being lesbian at a time in their lives when they are already having to cope with the pressures of being teenagers. I thought it was really good. Good ol' showcase.
  23. I don't know anything about scales , except dorian, I think that's the one I know. so, where should I start? what are some good sites with scales to practice?
  24. Of course it hasn't come up in church. It not something that's accepted or understood by the relgious community, quite the opposite.Whoever is being duped by the church is obviously not going to be aware of it, or else they wouldn't be religious to begin with. It's something that is subconsciously taught and learned by both parties. I couldn't read the article. I'm not registered with times mag. Anyway, I have a lot of issues with the education system. That's a whole other issue. Although, I wouldn't have a problem with intelligent design being taught( as a theory). Schools just need to teach critical thinking first and foremost, then students can wade through all the crap and decide for themselves. No unfounded theory should be taught as a fact. I think it's absolutely disgusting to abuse that power and position. I remember my dumb socialist teachers whininga nd bullshitting about the government when we were supposed to be learning. Luckily for me I was aware they were full of it. It should be an indictable offence. The same applies to anyone who believes in god. He's not freed from his responsibility by leaving. If I shat on the sidewalk and left, I'm still liable. If he created everything, he is responsible for everything. that contradicts religious philosophy because everyone is innocent. You don't believe that because you've been taught to believe in self-sacrifice and unworthiness. God is the only perfect being and we're all dirty sinners! compelling argument.kiss my scottish arse, random dumb person.
  25. Oh man this is gonna be a long one. I don't need the answer. I know the answer. I ask religious people that question to provoke thought. You bring up a good point. Many people believe the same thing you do. I think that that is due in large part to the fear tactic that the church uses. Fear of hell has indoctrinated so deeply in the minds of so many, from such a young age, that their decision to believe in god ultimately derives from that fear instead of thought. That's why, when you ask someone why they believe in god, the answer is often " I dunno, I just do". Any time you hear this you know that this person has based their beliefs on feelings rather than thought. Because, I don't know about you, but I require a little more reason than just " It feels right" before I'll believe I understand the origin of our existence. That is why I find religion pretentious. These people all of a sudden understand the origin of existence while spending as much thought reaching that conclusion as I do on what I'm going to eat for breakfast. This is what it all comes down to. Free will doesn't exist, as the bible describes it. The question I previously asked was meant to discredit religious philosophy because the answer is: a benevolent god wouldn't condemn innocents to hell (That's what he'd be doing if he sent me to hell). Peole try to evade real reason by saying, " everyone has the choice ". This doesn't make sense according to the bible itself. It is deadly simple. If god created everything, then he is solely responsible for everything. This includes me, my brain and the situations I've been in which ultimately influence my decisions to belief or disbelieve in god. If I don't believe in god that is direct result of HIS actions. People say, "But you're given the choice to accept him or not". this makes no sense. Nobody who believes in this superstition would to go to hell and nobody who doesn't believe in god is responsible for that. If I don't believe, well then god created me that way and I'm his responsibility. Why would be punish me for something he did? He wouldn't, unless he's an asshole. That's why I have to conclude that god is either non-existent, or an assole. it's called non-contradictory identification.
