10 Greatest Rock Moments.
ecnarf replied to Baby Faced Assassin's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
Hmm... I'm thinking about when the drummer from the Who had explosives rigged in his drumset during a live show, and the explosives guy put too much explosives, and the drum went flying off. -
What are you listening to?

"It takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry" by Bob Dylan. -
Religion, Evolution, The Big Bang!
ecnarf replied to Ruettiger's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Thanks for that. I'm sorry I was excercising my right to my own beliefs. -
But you know, sometimes when my friends don't talk to me, I feel sad.

Yeah, I do like those Priuses. I think the only problem with them is that they're rather expensive, and if it ever needed to be fixed or repaired, it'd cost a LOT. For one things, it's got one of those "tiptronic" transmissions, which is hooked up through the generator and engine, not to mention the transfer of braking energy into the generator. Very complicated shit.

It's about time students started doing something about this. I'm leaving high school in two years, and not getting an education because of lack of money sure would kick the bucket.

Is this really your dream car? What are you, a middle-aged woman with 2 kids? If you want a Toyota so bad why not get a Camery, it is much more sporty though still a sedan. You can't beat the fuel mileage. Well, actually, you can. In those new BMW 3-series with diesel engines, you can get an "average" of 50 miles per gallon, about the same as a Corolla, which is pretty impressive for a luxury car. Okay, I'll admit, it's not exactly my dream car, I just have unhealthily low goals so that I always come up a winner. I'm an environmentalist, so I'm a real stickler for fuel mileage. There are lots of great-looking cars out there that absolutely suck at fuel mileage for their class (case in point, Nissan Sentra and Altima). Sadly, you can't get BMW's with diesel engines in North America.

Not quite, but if Congress has its way it would be that high. The EPA is a distasterous agency anyways (right there with the DEA). A little less funding would be a blessing, since its regulations and red-tape do much more damage than good. Of course, hiring people to head departments that used to lobby in favour of corporations that pollute those departments doesn't help either. Ah, beaurocracy, gotta love it, eh?

U.s. Proposes 10,000 U.n. Peacekeepers For Sudan
ecnarf replied to Biggie's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
There's oil in other parts of Sudan. EDIT: as for education about AIDS, you have to realize that in many parts of Africa, people think that once you get AIDS, having sex with a virgin will cure it, particularly in rural areas, it's not about just about getting people to use condoms. -
Religion, Evolution, The Big Bang!
ecnarf replied to Ruettiger's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Atheist, yes evolution, never gave any thought to the big bang theory, so I don't really know... anything about it. This might be one of those things they should be teaching us in science. For me, it's a leap of faith to specifically not believe that the universe came from a divine being - similar to the way that it's a leap of faith for people to believe in a god. -

Sigh... I have to admit I'm rather dissapointed with the idea of a greatest hits coming out. I wouldn't buy it, because I already have just about all the CD's (just need astronauts), and unless there was a serious easter egg inside, like a collection of rarities I didn't have, well, I'd have to take a pass. I'm generally not a fan of compilation albums.

Enjoy the Silence, off of lo-fi. -
Well, of course, but I'm just a little taken aback at the fact that nobody in this thread has yet said that Avalanche could be considered going out on a high note.
-
Does nobody think Avalanche was a masterpiece?
-
It's not really that funny. It has its moments, yeah, but overall I could find better programming on, I think.
-
I think I'm going to go and cry now.

It's about bloody time. -
When writing music, do you use theory to write it, or do you mostly feel it out?
-
I'd like to see him release an album called "greatest hits" but have it be a compilation of b-sides. It just might be crazy enough to work. EDIT: is there any place i can read about the greatest hits thing?

The thread hits a wall at page 8.

The one way that Kim Jong-Il could be taken out of power is by opening trade with other countries. Think about it - where civilians will be able to see some of what's going on in the rest of the world, his rule will be greatly undermined. Also, the six-party talks going on right now are pretty much a time-filler while Bush thinks about what to do. Clinton managed to get something done by having inspectors and surveillance of their energy program, and since then, it's deteriorated.

Well, to start this off, in English class the other day, we were discussing what a "tragedy" was, and some people gave their own example, and they also had to demonstrate that each tragedy had an "up side" - you know something to be gained. So one girl replied that september 11th was a tragedy, but the upside was that if it had never happened there wouldn't be more security. I hope I'm not the only one who finds something wrong with this, as there's been minimal improvement in security since 9/11. That got me thinking, what is the lesson that people (specifically, Americans) should have learned after 9/11? If you ask me, I'd say that people should have come away realizing that people around the world (read: terrorists) hate America for their previous actions in foreign policy, not because they hate their "freedom" or (comparative lack of) values. I think that, through the way the Bush Administration has been speaking publicly about 9/11, many (certainly not all) Americans have felt that 9/11 was a completely unprovoked attack, that America has always been right in it's previous actions, and that attitude is still alive today.

For one thing, those numbers were in the manifestos. I hardly think it's not normal that I remembered they were in the manifestos, went to an online archive of them and then pasted those figures here. I don't care why were interested in his height, I was just answering the guy's question.
