So does that list look complete then?
-
The above post may have more insider info than I do, but I think there's a small difference. I play in a band and we recorded our album with a fairly experienced engineer. (He's frequently on the Juno Judges - I'm not boasting, this has nothing to do with my band in the slightest.) This guy said he attended a conferance in Vancouver where Matt spoke, and he said it was riveting. Matt said (to a room full of industry execs) that industry execs are loan sharks, only out to make money off the backs of artists and nothing else. As a result, Matt self-finances all of his own records. He doesn't take money from the company, who with interest and such can make it much harder for an artist to "break even" on a record. Thats why its so difficult from an artist's point of view. By self-financing he's able to guage the true cost of making a record, and when he's made the costs back, he actually has made the money back. Someome may read this and say "wow is that guy wrong, where'd he get his info" - and it is second hand. But admittedly, it sounds like something Matt would do, and my source is very respectable. This place runs better than a Wal-Mart. Customer service desk convienantly located at one's fingertips. Could do without the attitude though, my point was valid. -you guys didn't even ask for a receipt!

I just got suckered on this thing. I'm compiling a bunch of the rare/b-sides of Matts. I want studio songs, or ones that were never recorded. I got screwed though, because the NF store lists a rare slow version of X-rated. It's not described as (Live), like the other ones, but just (Slow). It's also more highly priced than the others, leading me to believe that It might not be some crappy live recording, but something Matt recorded. I spent nf$ 50 on a damn live version of X-rated, and it's not even that cool. On the upside, I discovered that it's from a show I attended in Halifax, so that's something. That songs should be relabeled, and I can't find the customer service desk.

Thats gold. I'm looking forwad to this. Looks like they stole some of the "Armageddon" stock footage though, eh? I think any movie with doctor doom in it will be sweet.

I think my vote will really depend on how the missile defence thing gets handled. It's been a trend since Confederation that politicians that stray to far into the field of pro-americanism get kicked. The level to which we are now merged has been gradual, and when someone proposes something too drastic, we get skittish and that politician goes home. I'll forever cherish that great Mulroney loss, 163 seats to 2. I vote Liberal because I really don't have any huge problems with the way the country's been run under Cretien.

Panic's been taken chief, sorry to say. -
Picking Matt out of this lineup isn't easy, it takes a few listens.

Weird, i just wrote an article about this on my blog [see signature] -
I remembered where the link was - it was on Ifilm. Go to http://www.ifilm.com/viralvideo Look down the list, it's there. (This is a great site for entertainment too, by the way)

I was thinking that this list would include only songs that weren't available elsewhere, even in other versions. As a result, slow versions or radio versions or acoustic versions would be out, perhaps subject to another thread of "alternate versions." Perhaps i'll post that after i'm satisfied with this one. Also, although "enjoy the silence" is a badass song, i think he made it available for purchase, hence disqualified. Agree? Disagree? I want to know. I think this is important.
-
Does anyone have this acoustic version, and can send it to me?
-
Hey, I'd like people's help. I started another thread called "complete b-sides list"..etc. If you could all contribute, i want to create a definative list of all the b-sides that you can actually listen too, compared to some lists that include songs that don't exist. Appreciate it.

There is a decent quality studio version of pony boy. It rocks

American Pie is on the list but the Matrix isn't? And Star Wars shouldn't be there either, there'll be 6 of them before too long. There's 5 now. It shouldn't qualify.

I think compiling a complete list of the B-sides is important, because most of us are now faced with the possibility that Matt may be done with music. (which I doubt) As a result, these b-sides may be the only matt good stuff we don't have, and will get to hear. That's why this list is important, so please help to edit it and fix it. I know there's a lot of B-sides threads out there, but lets make this one work.

I live on the east coast (of Canada), and we only recently got those new Molson Cold Shots - the beer in the tiny can that's marginally higher in Alcohol content than usual. They're very hip, and people are guzzling them as fast as they can get their hands on them. (I think they're a bit wankerish, but thats unimportant). I saw the commercials a long time ago, and checked the website to see when we'd get them. I just checked again after trying them, and found something kind of weird/interesting/cool. The first page introduces you to the two different kinds of cold Shots - there's a different one available only in Quebec. What I noticed (It's obvious, I'm no genius)thats interesting about this is that on the PQ one, the maple leaf, and all referance to Canada are gone. What is there is an unfamiliar Molson logo, and the colors are changed to corrospond with the traditional Quebec flag colors. Maybe this is wholly uninteresting to most people, but I found it a neat, visible example of market targeting in Canada. Check it out http://www.coldshots.ca/ -Interesting sidenote: Last night on the hour, George Stromboulopoulos devestated me, because apparently it's a myth that canadian beer is stronger than american!

Thank you for your pointed addition to the discussion. Much of Eastern Canada is below the 49th, as is part of Vancouver island. The Northwest angle is above the 49th parallel as well. It's just a figure of speech. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/49th_parallel

I'm compiling a list of all the unreleased Matt Good stuff that exists, and want to know if people can help. It's SUCH a pain in the ass, because there's a bunch of songs that are actually poems, some are only live, some are covers. Please, add or correct as you see fit. I'm sure i'm not the only person who wants to see a list like this. (It's going to make a great CD when i'm done - guilt free, too, since I can't buy this anywhere.) Note - these don't include any b-sides that have been released. 1. Pony Boy 2. All Together 3. Comfortable Criminals 4. 4 Minute Mile 3. Dusk 4. Can't Get Shot In The Back (If you Don't Run) 5. Annabelle 6. Big City Life 8. Can't Explain (Who Cover) 9. 1999 (prince Cover (not sure about this one)) 7. Seriously Serious 8. Agoraphobe 9. Downloading Blues I've figured that City of millions doesn't exist, except as a former working title for Empty road, and Should Have been a Super Villian and Reliance exist, but aren't music. Please don't jump down my throat for including the JPH stuff as "matt good". I get the feeling that i'm forgetting something, so let me know. I also have an acoustic Apparitions, an instrumental Weapon, and a radio edit version of Near Fantastica. Should they be included?

Has anyone had a chance to check this out? George's new show on CBC is worth your time. He's a good guy for this kind of show, and he's intelligent. I like that he intentionally covers stories that aren't front page news in Canada. Good submissions from other young journalists, too.

I just got the new Incubus DVD. It's a great performance, very professional. It's also got a CD with 3 new songs, Pantomime, Follow, and Monuments and Melodies. Follow has some sweet guitar work. Check it out. -
The Hip Live
Kayriss replied to Devil On Rollerskates's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
The Hip are one of the best live bands I've ever seen. As good as AC/DC, and Better than the Stones. At least, better than they were in toronto. Gordie is absolutely captivating. He's gotta be in his 40's, he looks it, but he's still energetic and givin'er every night. I think if you check the site, and look at the Halifax setlist, you'll agree that we got mad lucky. They played everything I had hoped for, including Boots or Hearts, Locked in the Trunk of a Car, and Nautical Disaster. Give it a look, it was Awesome. edit- ha, did not even notice that the posting above is exactly what I was talking about. -
GREATEST ROCK BAND TODAY
Kayriss replied to marik's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
Velvet Revolver. I mean, gimme a Break! Those guys are what Rock is supposed to be about. -
Man, I saw a leaked preview for the new Fantastic Four movie, and it looks badass. The human torch is off the hook. The Thing is a little weird looking, but still cool. Sorry I can't supply a link, it's out there somewhere though.
