The Russians Are Coming!
cavalier_eternal replied to HoboFactory's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
the best part when i skimmed it was the biblical bullshit at the end. it's funny when people so blatantly have their head up their ass. edit: oh, god. i clicked the link about 'the beast' from revelation for a laugh, and i thought anti-semitism was dead, more or less... that's so saddening. another edit: that's some messed up diatribe... -
working on it. ok, let's see. long and somewhat cliched, but not as long as i might think. um... ok, i started getting into Matthew Good [band] about a year ago. i've always loved the riffs and musicality, but like many bands i know of, i just hadn't really heard enough and such. anyways, i was bored and slacking (like many teens) and i was on the matthewgood.org site one night. someone was complaining about why a concert was going to be 19+, ticket prices, etc... and at the time, there was this scrolling forum like thing. i know i'm explaining this horribly. anyways. i ranted and posted once on this little scrolling message thing, and Lauren happened to add me to msn at that point. anyways, i remember i was sitting here, and listening to indestructible. she signed in for the first time or whatever, and i was like, uh, do i know you? and, i didn't. we became close friends fast, and it just progressed from there. i'm skimming over a lot, of course. anyways... reasons why indestructible always makes me think of her. when she signed in the first time, the lyric in her name was, 'if i go away again, you can have my stereo.' i was listening to indestructible at that time, and that same lyric played as she signed on. and yes, i really do remember all of this. plus, i have the msn plus rigged to play indestructible every time she signs on, so every time i hear that bass riff, i look around for her and feel sad when she's not around. furthermore, great song. so that's why indestructible always reminds me of Lauren.
-
cool. by the way, i love the bass riff on indestructible. always reminds me of my girlfriend. long story behind that, but it will always remind me of Lauren. so thank you muchly. edit: the story can be told, if you're bored or something.

Does Anyone Know If Arizona's Is All Ages?
cavalier_eternal replied to i'm indestructable's topic in Matthew Good
want a blunt answer? no. i haven't really been to anything i'd call a concert, and i know that... edit: it mostly has to do with the 19+ or whatever having to do with selling drinks or really explicit content. or i could just be horribly mistaken. -

how'd it go? i assume you've done the show by now. -
i really like the Godin LG-HMB i played. Godin's a Canadian company out of Montreal. www.godinguitars.com yeah, it's quite something. just click on electric guitars and follow the links. it's not all that expensive for the ridiculous amount of quality. and yeah, a lot of people think i'm crazy for it, but i like a tele over a strat. and i love the way a les paul sounds when it's heavily distorted. nothing quite like a down and dirty les paul.

maplemusic.com good luck buying the rarities inexpensively. people can send them to you in mp3 format. and if you have all the official cds, why the hell do you need what you have in that other post?
-
those are easy to get. they aren't demos... no offense, but what's wrong with you, you lazy... go buy them. or if you're that pathetic, go download them. eesh. you're not even asking for rare tracks. so i'm not sending you anything... not like i really have any rarities either. if you were asking for something rare, then i might understand. but seriously, go buy the cds...

Does Anyone Here Have A Band?
cavalier_eternal replied to Lux's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
my friend phil, from my guitar class, asked me if i want to be the second member in his jazz/metal fusion band. i laughed. he found out i play violin, and he's like, i have a vision. we make a basic melody, then we just solo like we're possessed over top of it. i'm not great at improvising... i don't know my scales and theory that cold. sad, isn't it? he still wants to, even though i told him not to get his hopes up. so technically, i'm in a band. sort of. haha. oh phil. ok, tips for playing performances. i've played violin for about ten years or so now, so i have a fairly decent idea of what you need to be able to do to perform effectively. that being... perform til you know it cold. know where your part matches up with everyone else, that way if anyone screws up, you can pull it back together. play it with your eyes closed. this is important, as bright lights and such can hurt. be able to evoke everything you want in your voice and/or instrument in your song, and just let go. it's ok to be nervous. as i've had said to me, if you're not even a bit nervous, you don't care enough. now, i guess that might not apply to professionals who know their stuff cold, but still. good rule to follow. basically, know everything backwards and forwards, and don't throw yourself in the deep end right away. if you have to play something simpler, then great on you. i wouldn't immediately pick up vivaldi's four seasons concerto after a year of playing knowing that i wouldn't be able to play it really well. play within your abilities for now, but always push yourself. you want to have a fair bit of confidence. and yeah, i play a bit of guitar, and singing and playing is really hard at first. at least, it was for me. i used an easy song (Against Me! - 8 Full Hours of Sleep) to learn on. simple chord strumming and vocals. and once you know one, you can move on to bigger stuff. which is fun. don't be afraid to push yourself, but know your limits. i'll use a mountain bike analogy. if you see a sick line and you're racing, and you know it would be awesome if you just hung it all out and ripped it up, but don't know if you could stay on, well, play it safe, but still have fun. that probably made no sense to anybody, but that's ok. go listen to some Against Me! or i'll send you some of their demo tracks or something. as a band, they show you that you can just belt it out with sincerity, and it comes across wonderfully. perhaps it isn't the most musically melodic thing, but hey, that's stylistic. most importantly, i guess, is to pour yourself into it. in anything you do, show your unique flair and such. if you want to scream out the song, go ahead. if you want to slash away at those chords, do it. do what feels right to you. sincerity means more to me (and most people) than does a lackluster, empty performance, no matter how technically sound without emotion. anyways, have fun! i made no sense at all. all apologies. ;) -

she's got a new disguise has emotional baggage attached for me, not romantically or anything, but it reminds me far too much of a friend who ripped everyone up for her own purposes. song for the girl, as long as you're mine, et cetera come to mind for romantic purposes. some of them have certain 'romantic' inferences, i guess. you know, songs like the rat who would be king. i don't want to explain.

i agree. dave matthews is a pretty good musician, but his voice i don't like all that much. i prefer neil young's voice, if we're comparing nasility. assuming nasility is a word. nasality? hm. nasally-related tonal qualities. i'm done. but on a neil young rant, his voice gives the music that edgy, raw, down to earth feel. neil young writes (wrote, i guess, seeing as far as i know, that he hasn't written stuff in a while) amazing music. anyways. i like smashing pumpkins. chocolate is yummy. and there's nothing quite like ripping down a mudslide of a slope doing a pretty solid clip on a spring day and almost flying off into a ravine at the bottom. i'm done. edit: i also find it a bit ironic that it's said that many canadians know him for mgb. not really ironic, but sadly so in the sense that i feel avalanche was amongst his best work. mind you, all his stuff is excellent. don't get me started on a b-side rant now...

i'll buy it eventually. i rented it a while ago, and it's amazing. i have yet to see the director's cut. great movie.

just order it off maplemusic.com. seriously... from what i've heard, the states never has Good stuff. pun intended.
