against me! - unsubstantiated rumours are good enough for me (to base my life upon) great band. very tongue in cheek. -
It Couldn't Be!
cavalier_eternal replied to insane_child's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
i'm sure i sound worse. plus, i can't multitask. (i.e. play guitar and sing at the same time.) heck, i can't do either. so i bet i sound like a banshee being raked over the coals of hell. -

Best Reality T.V.
cavalier_eternal replied to Maverick's topic in Rentals, Television, and Readables
i don't see how the marketing people put those two words together for this particular 'niche' of crap on television. reality is so much less sex-filled, less entertaining, less exciting, less random, less gameshow oriented. at least, my life is... yeah. reality tv is crap. so i voted that it sucks. and scares me. sound off at me, but i think it's a really stupid fad. if you can call such things a fad. -
Since We Arent Opposed To Dling Rare Stuff
cavalier_eternal replied to AliceIntoThePavement's topic in Marketplace
i've got some too. on a side note, i'd like demos too... i have loser anthems and most of lo-fi b-sides. i can buy all the lps, so don't bother with that. i have all of them except for aob. and i don't have the raygun ep yet. but i'll deal with that. major thanks to those that can help out with any of the old demos. note, i don't have underdogs on cd anymore either... i lost my discman, and it was inside. damn. but i do have it on the hard drive in mp3 format. as for the private christian schools, i feel for you. i used to go to one... -

cavalier_eternal replied to spiritofeden's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
i don't even know if i can pick ten albums from this year. but what have i bought that was released this year? mg - wlrrr rise against - siren song of the counter culture dead celebrity status - blood music and the remasters of old classic rock stuff doesn't apply. i'm sure if i had more money i'd buy more music. but i don't, so meh. oh yeah, i should go buy that interpol cd. i've heard it. it's quite good. -

random stuff, really. consisting of: matthew good [band] against me! rise against afi tool led zeppelin a static lullaby metric -
is the calgary sun like the toronto sun? if so, we've got another paper barely rising above tabloid level here, folks... and i only recall one single by that lameass band, the music. which doesn't even hold up to anything at all. anyone read matt's take on music critics? ;) you all should. this guy seems like your standard sensationalistic bastard.

tough call. i'd have to go with weapon though. it totally rocks my socks. and the instrumentals in avalanche were transcedental. (transcendental? i don't know which one.)

i accidentally started two threads. oops. and there's no way to delete the one, i suppose. my bad.

i happen to like all his stuff. EDIT: and where's a long way down?

i feel enlightened. thanks guys.

muchmusic does suck. and yeah, i suppose genres are limiting. as for emo... i have a friend that hates emo. he says it makes people sad. now, 'emo' music helped me get through a phase in my life. namely, some of matt's sadder songs did. especially the fine art. everything has its time and place. and yeah, genres are limiting. thanks for making me think a bit. and system of a down is pretty cool, albeit weird. and i've only heard a smidgen of afi, but they're pretty good too.

hmm. my faves would have to be... matthew good. of course. against me! rise against dr. draw dead celebrity status metric project wyze and... as for assorted loves that i don't really listen to enough to call my favourites... led zeppelin tool the doors ashley macissac the beatles neil young ben harper jack johnson haydyn the descendents less than jake flogging molly the who the guess who pink floyd kansas smashing pumpkins steppenwolf strung out strike anywhere the suicide machines sage francis and my guitar heroes... eric clapton jimi hendrix black sabbath (tony iommi) van halen (of course) jeff healey (band) john lennon johnny cash mason williams and the violin heroes are... ashley macissac dr. draw and randomly... treble charger the offspring and for classical... vivaldi and many more. i just love music. amazing music is one of the best things in this world. amongst lauren, chocolate, and coffee. __________________________________________________________ as for genres... rap is dehumanizing. by that, i mean mainstream rap. i abhor it. country is just... odd. rehashed, mostly. dance and techno is often badly done. alt rock is overdone. classic rock is good. on the whole, you can find good music in any genre. you just have to look harder in some than others. there are artists that make washed out genres like dance and rap good by reviving it with that quality known to the discerning as MUSIC. that's my take. please feel free to shoot me down. EDIT: sorry for accidentally posting this thread twice. it wasn't intentional.

some would say 'the fine art of falling apart', and i would be inclined to agree, but that song got me through some massive depression... so 'i miss new wave' gets my vote. and, for the record, i haven't heard much of aob... so i guess i'm null and void on this vote. otherwise, i'd have to say, the rat who would be king. which doesn't seem to be on here... for some odd reason. like come on... you know that love's not enough? that song was like my life. eesh.

ironically, i have cable, and i never watch tv. when i do, i watch law and order (the original!), or randomly funny shows, like spongebob and the simpsons and others. but please, enlighten me as well... any show good enough to recognize the potential of Good music must have some qualities. and yes, i'm a cynic where television is concerned. burn cnn and fox.

seeing as the song talks about times back in the eighties, i'm assuming... (we wore pink in the eighties) that he's talking about the period or somewhere around there when he was a crazy young man. (i.e. inebriated.) hence, anything goes. and, if you've read 'at last there is nothing left to say' you will have a great insight into a darkly funny mind. go read the chapters on abusing motion sickness pills and faking multiple personality disorders at criminal trials. as for obscurity... who the hell is bobby? 'bobby is my hero for that' maybe i'm just obliviously clueless. it's entirely possible. and i'm probably wrong. but hey, that's my guess.

Movies That Made You Cry
cavalier_eternal replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Rentals, Television, and Readables
sadly, i don't recall offhand. but it was a good movie. perhaps there were multiple movies. i dunno. i have to think about this one. haha... i'm crazy. -
star wars is my vote. you can't really judge lotr yet... it hasn't had that timeless feel yet. but it's a tossup between that and star wars. for now, the >real< starwars gets my vote. and as i haven't seen all the indy movies... i have no opinion.

Eminem
cavalier_eternal replied to Lauren's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
yeah, rap disgusts me. when i say rap, i mean mainstream. sure, he has some respectable songs, but that doesn't excuse him. you can't contradict yourself and expect me to respect you at all. if you want to hear some good rap... listen to sage francis. or dead celebrity status. i dunno... rap is an acquired taste. mind you, with me, everything is an acquired taste. now go listen to some music.
