  1. Ha ha yeah I'm usually pretty good at picking up on selling mistakes. edit: well that was ironic and completely unintentional lol
  2. Yeah I was worried that there wouldn't be lyrics because the last time Matt released an album (of all-new material) in a digipak rather than a jewel case (WLR&RR) there weren't any. Did anyone else notice in the lyric booklet in On Nights Like Tonight heartbreaker is misspelled as heatbreaker?
  3. Except the word 'Vancouver' isn't repeated several times in the chorus and indeed isn't even in the song (or the rest of the album). I think listening to the song people will know it's social commentary a) because of the "we all live downtown.." part and b) it's Matt Good lol. I think the only way someone might think it's a "Go Vancouver!" song is just by looking at the song's title.
  4. This is gonna be difficult. Top Ten of the 90s (in no particular order) 1. Matthew Good Band - Beautiful Midnight 2. Weezer - Pinkerton 3. Pearl Jam - Ten 4. Soundgarden - Superunknown 5. System of a Down - Self-Titled 6. Incubus - Make Yourself 7. The Tragically Hip - Live Between Us 8. Rage Against The Machine - Self-Titled 9. Metallica - Self-Titled (The Black Album) 10. Jimmy Eat World - Clarity Top Ten of the 00s (again in no particular order) 1. Matthew Good - Avalanche 2. Pearl Jam - Self-Titled (Avocado) 3. System of a Down - Toxicity 4. Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American 5. Incubus - A Crow Left Of The Murder 6. Sam Roberts - We Were Born In A Flame 7. Matthew Good - Vancouver 8. The Tragically Hip - World Container 9. Metallica - Death Magnetic 10. Incubus - Morning View
  5. You can spend your time alone Redigesting past regrets Or you can come to terms and realize You're the only one who cannot forgive yourself Makes much more sense To live in the present tense Present Tense by Pearl Jam Love Incubus, and this song. Very relaxing. "Lying face up on the floor of my vessel I marvel at the stars and feel my heart overflow"
  6. I've been listening to some live bootlegs and I've come to these conclusions: 1. I really do like Poor Man's Grey. 2. I agree with borntohula about it being recorded live and having less studio gloss. Pretty much all of this album is even better live than on the album (except the great pedal steel that's on the album but not live).
  7. This is all I could find so far. Vancouver at #2
  8. Thanks. I was wondering about that.
  9. Today's the day! Gonna get my copy first chance I get ;) .
  10. Agreed on the old demos. The ones mentioned (Dancing Invisible, Heather's Like Sunday, As Long As You're Mine) are fantastic and I would add Whispering In The Dark, Folk Singer, Casual Walks, A Better Pain, Mercy Misses You, Last Of The Ghetto Astronauts (love the bass in this song), The Ocean (gorgeous) and Bluebird. I agree about the Load Me Up/Time Bomb thing too (unless he did the slow extended ending). I guess he's under some sort of obligation to play them (for some people it seems like that's why they go to the concerts, that and to scream RICO! right in the fucking middle of a quiet part of Blue Skies or Near Fantastica). Oh well. I based my list before on what I thought would be somewhat realistic considering what he's played in recent years. But like AnOceanPearl, I could come up with quite a few setlists. I think it's "I don't think you're ready for this jelly" ;) .
  11. I applaud your fortitude! I type this while listening to the stream ;) .
  12. It would be ridiculously awesome to hear Empty's Theme Park on the radio, all nine minutes and twenty or so seconds of it. It would have a snowball's chance in hell of happening, as evidenced by the fact that singles that are around five and a half to six minutes long (Weapon, IAWCC, Last Parade) are all heavily edited for time.
  13. I think the fact that Hospital Music unexpectedly debuted at #1 on the Canadian albums charts with no music video or anything might have made some people rethink what they thought about Matt Good's popularity and are now promoting Vancouver more as a result. Us Remains Impossible would be a good single, but just because it was mentioned in an ad doesn't necessarily mean it is the next single. Sorta like how on some albums they have a sticker that says "includes..." and they list a bunch of songs on it, but not all of them are singles. Still, it could be, as it's one of the more radio friendly tracks.
  14. this Okay serious answer: (using the maximum of 20 rule) 1. Last Parade 2. Hello Time Bomb 3. Near Fantastica 4. Avalanche 5. On Nights Like Tonight 6. Volcanoes 7. Weapon 8. I'm A Window 9. Blue Skies Over Bad Lands 10. Everything Is Automatic 11. Fought To Fight It 12. The Vancouver National Anthem 13. The Rat Who Would Be King 14. Apparitions (solo acoustic) 15. Giant 16. Tripoli (solo acoustic) 17. Prime Time Deliverance (solo acoustic) 18. A Silent Army In The Trees 19. Champions Of Nothing 20. Empty's Theme Park
  15. Am I the only one who sometimes hears Matt say "and the lady says..." just before the second time the lady says "Ah! It's like a breath of fresh air" in Fought To Fight It?
  16. A Long Way Down. Also, I think AOB's post got skipped, so Rat Who Would Be King. "Way" to go: A Long Way Down vs. Going All The Way
  17. Carmelina. "Us" songs: The Inescapable Us vs. Us Remains Impossible
  18. Near Fantastica. C'est la vie: Double Life vs. Big City Life
  19. SOAPS. Battle of the bird references. There are many, but I'll choose these two: She's Got A New Disguise vs. Let's Get It On
  20. The Rat Who Would Be King. Battle of the strangeness: Strange Days vs. Strangest One Of All
  21. SWW. It completely transforms the song. Last Of The Ghetto Astronauts (the song not the album) vs. Bluebird
  22. Tough one. Prime Time Deliverance I'll say. Running on Empty: Empty Road vs. Empty's Theme Park
  23. This is a tough one. The last three songs on Loser Anthems are IMO among Matt's best songs. I'll say Life Beyond, but I could change my mind in a minute. The battle for "Born" Supremacy: Born Losers vs. Born To Kill
  24. Yeah, finboy's recommendations are good. I'd add WLR&RR, as I feel it's his most 'accessible' release (with the exception of Blue Skies). I wouldn't recommend anything off of Hospital Music unless it's just the singles and a few others, not that HM isn't great, but it's pretty intense and personal and first-time listeners might be scared off. You could always burn a mix CD of songs that you felt were good and that your friend might like (keep in mind that a lot of the more poppy or radio friendly songs likely won't be played this tour). Off topic: I enjoy Incubus (haha that's one of their EP's titles) and Jimmy Eat World as well. I wonder if your friend will notice the similarity between the intros to Jimmy Eat World's 23 and Everything Is Automatic (the songs are completely different after that). I guess I'll do what the topic title asks ;) 1. Giant 2. Weapon 3. Prime Time Deliverance 4. Avalanche 5. Hello Time Bomb 6. Tripoli 7. Carmelina 8. 21st Century Living 9. Apparitions 10. Suburbia 11. We're So Heavy 12. Alert Status Red 13. Born Losers 14. I'm A Window 15. Load Me Up 16. Strange Days 17. Near Fantastica 18. Everything Is Automatic 19. Born To Kill 20. A Single Explosion Also, Fought To Fight It is probably the most radio friendly tune off the new record.
