Liberal, Npd And Block Going To Bring Down The Gov
Morglor9 replied to calgarydave's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
I should hope that I don't have to explain how a lack government regulation has caused/worsened the crisis. Aside from the description given by calgarydave of how the two are related, many news articles written about the crisis when it started months ago in the US, right up to now and probably to continue for some time have pointed to subprime mortgages allowed by deregulated lending in the US to have either caused or worsened the current economic situation. @ calgarydave, on the campaign subsidies: I would argue that the average middle-class Conservative supporter isn't the one who's making the contributions to their party. The donors, I'm guessing, are mostly people from executive corporate positions. This worries me, as a party who receives more of their funding from the executive level of the corporate world, even if it is given by private individuals from that world, is more likely to be an industry lapdog. In general, heavy industry donations to a party like the NDP or Green would either completely undermine their political positions or destroy them by pacifying lobbyists to maintain their cashflow from these "donors". -

I guess my other posts have confirmed it, but I'm willing to jump in as part of that 62% majority in support of the Coalition. -

Huh? I don't really feel like reading back through this whole thread, but I find it hard to believe that no one has mentioned the removal of government subsidies or the economy in the past three pages. Now, may I remind you that the current worldwide economic crisis is caused not by government interference in economics, but a lack of government regulation? Deregulation in the US allowed things like sub-par mortgages, and that is why the world is where it finds itself right now. In addition to this, the inflation and problems in the US economy (which are affecting the world) have not been caused by a "more Socialist" US President, but a right-wing Republican. As for calling the Liberals and NDP here in Canada socialists, you might only be slightly justified in saying this of the NDP. On top of this, Harper's Conservatives have been in power since 2006, so what's going on in Canada's economy right now should easily be at least partly blamed on them, more so than you could blame these so-called "Socialist" leaders. -

Not against gay rights? Didn't Harper say before election in 2006 that if he was elected he intended to reopen the gay marriage debate, even though by that point it was pretty much a closed book? There's also the all-important fact that if Harper had been Prime Minister in 2003 the already stretched Canadian military would be a little more stretched because we'd have soldiers fighting in Iraq. -
I like the Nerf gun description title, BFNG. My favourite from ThinkGeek: http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts-apparel/u...luminated/8a5b/ There's one for girls too!

It's times like these when I wish I didn't live in Saskatchewan. Hearing pro-Conservative idiot radio hosts spread their fear of the evil undemocratic socialist coup is a bad start to any morning. -

Yes, I agree with what borntohula said about this avoiding an election. Last I'd heard, the proposed coalition government would plan for themselves to be in effect for 2.5 years. On the other hand, if Harper stayed as PM, we would probably be looking at yet another election within the next year to year and a half. Unfortunately this coalition means that the wholly unpopular Dion will be/in a way already is Prime Minister. Personally I would prefer Layton as PM, I quite like him, but it's not going to happen considering that the Libs have more seats in the House. I do wonder what position Layton would be given in the coalition government... And Harper tried to claim that he called an election because the previous parliament had become ineffective. More ineffective than this? Afterthought: I liked Canadian politics a lot more before the PC and Alliance parties merged. -
That is one unsettlingly phallic blue monster at the beginning... As for the music, Barry Manilow's version of the song is terrible. Rick's still got it.

Don't mail it, either of the other two is acceptable. I think that if a company sells a faulty product to the consumer, they should have to bite the shipping bullet, not the customer.

Haven't heard it, but I can't say that I'm a fan of the single... -
Could be worse. Matthew Good music is a lot healthier for you than, say, cocaine.

Last night in a bar I saw an ad advertising Hospital Music and Live at Massey Hall.

Those are the best rubik's cubes to solve anyway. Seriously. Or the 3x3's that are all one colour.

I completely understand and agree with the content of the original post in this thread. It's just like the spam you get with your Hotmail, "If you don't send this to 15 people they will assume your account is inactive and delete" bullshit. It's rather funny, until you realize that people actually believe it, and actually care that they might have to pay $2.99 per month to keep on their Facebook account. Then it becomes pitiful.

I think that's called murder...

David Bowie's eyes are awesome, his right eye got caught by a ring when fighting with a friend in his youth, so apparently everything he sees has a slight brownish tint and his right pupil is always dilated. IIRC.

Thread's jinxed, maybe I'll stop getting them now that I've posted here. Or not.

There's a guy in my class who has this funny (and annoying) need to be finished any assignment or test before anyone else. So every time we get a midterm back and you ask him his mark, it's easy to point out that the reason why your mark is 10% higher than his is because of the sloppy mistakes of working too fast. His response? "Yeah, but I was finished before you." I would pity his girlfriend if he had one and I wasn't so sure the guy was a virgin. It's become clear that this attitude carries into all aspects of his life.

If your hamster gets sick, you put it into the garbage disposal... or something. Seriously, who goes to get a hamster put down?

I agree, and I find it easier to navigate this new site than the version that came before it.

I'll say that your efforts are very compassionate and honourable.
