  1. I think the length of the encore will be dictated by run time as opposed to number of tracks. Although it is pretty common for Matt to play 12-14 tracks in the main set just like Beautiful Midnight, Beautiful Midnight does not have the long track length of many of the songs he does at his shows. Giant is the longest clocking it at 6:01, nothing else is really in that range except Born to Kill and Suburbia, most songs are well under 5 mins. Adding up the length of music played at one of the Vancouver shows last tour, Matt played basically a two hour show, of which 91 minutes was strictly music. So if BM is roughly 65 mins, then yes in a 90 minute show probably three encore songs makes sense. But for the longer 2 hour shows that usually get played in Van and Toronto, five songs would not be a stretch at all. Without songs like Non Populus, Empty's Theme Park and Champions of Nothing in the set, its not unrealistic to think these shows could have a track or two more than shows from the past four tours. I'm not saying thats what will happen, I'm just saying the main body of these shows will be probably 5-10 minutes shorter than they have been on previous tours, allowing for a potentially longer encore. Also, it kinda depends how Matt wants to approach Beautiful Midnight, maybe he plans to extend some things, Load Me Up is typically 1-2 minutes longer live than on the album version, Suburbia has in the past had an extra verse, the Born to Kill freakout might last longer, there are a ton of variables that could reflect the length of the set. Also, during regular shows, Matt talks to the crowd after every couple songs, sometimes just for :15 seconds, sometimes for 2-3 minutes. He may do the same during Beautiful Midnight, he may just continue playing. Everyone knows how well those songs link so it'd make sense to do this, but things like guitar changes and other logistics may prevent this. Also, Im sure Matt will want a gulp of water or something in the mix. By the way I hope if Matt is reading these he isn't taking it the wrong way, as a fan its exciting to speculate. As Foats said, he could just play Beautiful Midnight and call it a night and I'd be cheering my whole way through the parking lot. It isn't possible for a show like this to disappoint me, but its still interesting to postulate on best case scenarios, and to read what other people feel would be the best case for them too.
  2. Sorry to bump an old thread, but in prep for the tour I've been on a Matt Good kick and decided to burn through some live stuff. Has anyone listened to the Live Road stuff recently. Man, I forgot how much these kicked ass. For the quick mixing that was done they come across sounding very well balanced. You get a good feel for the audience and its just a fantastic document of the tour. The AOD was definitely a rocking tour after the slower more mellow LOES tour. I'm still incredibly grateful Matt did this for us, and to Anthony for actually mixing most of them post show.
  3. Im expecting the encore to be pretty much the biggest hits not on BM. I feel this is pretty realistic Everything is Automatic Born Losers Last Parade Apparitions Weapon Maybe with things like Los Alamos, Metal Airplanes, Carmelina and Girls In Black rotated. a realistic list of what I'd like to see Near Fantastica (I know, I know, but its been done before) Apparitions Advertising on Police Cars Bad Guys Win Weapon And fuck it lets go nuts and put an in my dreams encore to match an in my dreams show All Together Symbolistic White Walls Man of Action Prime Time Deliverance Weapon
  4. Well its hard to tell what Matt might do. Dont forget he once made In A Place Of Lesser Men the first single off LOES and then never played it once on the tour. He said Beautiful Midnight would be played front to back in sequence. To me that means the album as it was released in 1999 will be played. The new versions are a promo. Something to sell at the shows something new to tour behind. Because im going to multiple shows it wouldn't have an issue if new takes were rotated with old ones. But if im perfectly honest id be a little upset if I were just going to one show. Not because the new versions might not be great. I haven't heard them yet and maybe they are better like Matt has said about Born to Kill. But in just two months its unlikely these versions will resonate or bring the same emotional punch that yhe versions from 17 years ago do. Those songs have had a true impact on my life and been such a part of me they are like a soundtrack to my memories. And some may say well you have the album. Listen to it. Haha which is true. But it was always a dream of mine to hear these songs live. I never thought id hear them all at once. I thought after attending 100 shows id piece by piece hear them until id heard the whole album live. This way is far superior. Because those songs beg to be played in order. There is one change id love to hear though and thats the third verse in Suburbia. Always loved that extra bit. But the live recordings are lacking in clarity
  5. previews sound pretty good. I wasn't a fan of the snippet I heard of "New Wave" on Matt's site, but I loved the snippet here. I enjoyed Load Me Up and Born to Kill quite a bit. Suburbia is definitely interesting, it might be hard for me to fully get on board because of the high esteem I hold the original and it's haunting reverberation in. Didn't overly care for the snippet of Let's Get It On. This EP could be pretty intriguing. Matt's voice sounds great on these new snippets!
  6. Interesting to see the large variations. It seems Los Alamos and Harridan get lots of love here, same as Cold Water. The one thing that seems universal is that No Liars is at or near the bottom of most lists.
  7. I want a "Here Comes Trouble" shirt. its so basic and just awesome.
  8. My poor bank account.
  9. Haha yeah, bang on man, no matter what you do apparently you are ruining someone elses night. I'm the kinda guy who likes to be respectful, but also thinks standing at a concert is better. It literally makes the show more enjoyable for me because you can dance, sway or at least move around a bit. It seems to add a little extra energy to the gig. Recently I got yelled at at a hockey game for standing...During a Penalty Shot...In Overtime! I mean, if you can't stand for that, what the hell can you stand for. I can appreciate certain people are physically unable to stand through a performance, but I dont understand why they don't choose different seats then. Most venues have seats for people with disabilities, rarely anyone in the balconys ever stand and aisle seats on the floor will usually offer unhindered views. What I don't understand is who goes to a show. Decides to sit fourth row center and taps the person in front of them all night long telling them "I didn't pay $50 bucks to stare at some dudes ass" Well I didn't pay the exact same price to be hassled for enjoying myself. If you personally have a problem with people standing there are easily alternatives to still give you a great view of the show and not have to deal with it. That's self importance for ya. One person has a problem so 300 must sit. Unbelievable. Sorry for the rant, but this is a serious issue for me. I love standing at shows and dancing and I cant stand it when someone wants it treated like an opera. It's Rock and Roll for god sakes. Matt frequently is telling the crowd to get up, so I know as an artist he enjoys the energy feedback from a crowd on their feet. It's become such an issue I simply dont stand anymore, as much as I want to take a stand, its just not worth being hassled for two hours. Also wanted to add that I will never ever look down on someone for choosing to sit. Its certainly in their right to do so. Im not one of those guys yelling all night long "get Up" Each person should be able to do as they please. I will say this though. Thank god for the shows at the Commodore this tour, no problems to be had. Everyone on their feet, expect an energetic and enthusiastic crowd.
  10. 1. Cloudbusting - I know it's a cover, but I just can't get over how much I love this version, and the live version rocked! 2. Army of Lions 3. Los Alamos 4. Girls in Black 5. Moment 6. All You Sons and Daughters 7.Cold Water 8. Kid Down the Well 9. Tiger By The Tail 10. Harridan 11. No Liars I still really enjoy this album and it gets regularly played honestly more so for me than LOES, Arrows of Desire or White Lock Rock and Roll Review and probably about as much as Vancouver
  11. I'm interested to see which songs will be considered for the vote. Also it says the soundcheck songs are full band as opposed to last time which was just Matt on acoustic...I'm assuming this will mean a limited number of possible songs to be played/voted upon as Matt has mentioned in the past the band only has limited rehearsal time and ability to learn material.
  12. No, I think some venues do this to keep track of how many tickets have actually been sold to make sure they don't exceed fire codes. If it says GA or General Admission then you can sit or stand anywhere in that section (which in these venues usually means anywhere within the venue)
  13. General Admission means there are no seats, or there are but none are assigned. So if you buy your brother a seat, enter the venue with him and just sit or stand together...you will be allowed to do so anywhere within the General Admission section. I like GA shows because I always have friends who get cold feet about buying tickets early, then like two days before the show want to go, but can't sit with us. In a GA show, as long as they can get any ticket they can still be with our group, so it works out good for those procrastinating friends.
  14. yeah there are a few tables...but would they really be referred to like seats at a venue ie fifth row, they are off to the sides and the whole stage front is GA
  15. I'm confused on how you guys had options for seats at the Commodore Ballroom show? I bought for both and they were just straight up GA, as has been every show I've ever seen at the Commodore Ballroom.
  16. many shows are GA, Vancouver and Victoria are for sure.
  17. NonPopulus the Nanaimo show is on sale, go to the port theater site, go to events, find Matt click buy tickets there will be a place to enter promo code midnight. viola! I am going to both Vans, Vic and Nanaimo and grabbed a VIP for one of the Van shows. Ok February, get here. I also read there would be an option to upgrade your digital copy to a physical ones...hoping this includes Vinyl, then I can upgrade to Vinyl and CD at discounted costs.
  18. Looks like I'll be attending four shows. Can't wait! I notice the advertising for this does not specifically say "Beautiful Midnight played in it's entirety" I know Matt mentioned here that it would be, but why not advertise that fact, seems like a major draw if you ask me. I'm perfectly happy with the VIP the way it is. On the AoD tour I remember you got a copy of the record, which was pretty cool and you got to meet Matt for a few seconds take a picture or whatever. I enjoyed the whole soundcheck bit last year so much more. I'm a fan of the music. Sure I'd love to sit around and shoot the shit with Matt talk some Led Zeppelin, baseball or bash on Rico, but that isn't what happens in the Meet and Greets. It's more like a "Hey, OMG, Love, Your stuff man, great show" Smile! Thanks. So to me, getting to hear a few songs in soundcheck, especially if they differ from what might be played during the show...awesome, I'm there! As for the merch booth comments..I dunno I've never had an issue getting to the front of the line at the merch booth by just showing up at doors. The tour is starting out West, so for anyone on the West Coast its unlikely they'll be plum out of sizes and stuff by the time the tour hits Vancouver three shows in. One last thing, what is this fan club presale business? How does one get the presale code for this?
  19. What I'm curious about is how these songs may be fleshed out. Do they have extended or different instrumental parts, intros or outros...Do they have differing or additional lyrics. Even if they don't it's still kind of interesting to see a modern take on some of the tracks. Im assuming these are going to be part of a Beautiful Midnight deluxe edition or are they just being released as an EP? In a perfect world I'd love a deluxe edition of the album with the new takes and a live recording of an MGB show from that era...but that may be just wishful thinking.
  20. Enjoyed this one. Kinda weird to hear a new take on a song you are so familiar with. Because you have preconceptions. Its refreshing to have those challenged. Really looking forward to an announcement. Also hoping those tour dates for late winter are right, those would fit my schedule like a glove and I could hammer off a bunch of shows!
  21. There was definitely a video of Dave where he talked about Matthew Good Band days. I remember seeing it probably 7-8 years ago. It was one of those round table type discussions with a radio station with 54-40 and Dave was asked a few times about stuff from the Matthew Good Band days. From what I remember his responses were straight forward and positive. I just looked on youtube quickly but couldn't find it though.
  22. Audio of Being is an interesting record to me, because I think more so than any record in Matt's discography, I need to listen to it as a whole. I rarely enjoy the songs as stand alones, unless in a live setting. But I almost never think to myself "Hey, I want to hear Tripoli" my mood is far more frequently "Hey I want to hear Audio of Being." I'm not entirely sure why that is, the album just has a good flow to it and the songs are sort of linear.
  23. i thought for sure they'd hit the shelves pre Christmas, but they'd have to announce them pretty soon if that were going to take place
  24. MAtt's humour definitely adds an element to the shows. In Nanaimo on the last tour something happened to Bones amp and it just stopped producing in the middle of "Moment" So he did what any one would do in that situation, stood stage front and started doing funny dances. After a couple of seconds Matt shot a "wtf are you doing?" glance over and then altered the lyrics "It wasn't always like this you know, this song used to have bass you know" I couldn't stop laughing.
  25. No...but poor Lance takes a verbal assault and has to sling drinks like Lloyd in The Shining. i never got to see the hospital music acoustic tours, but having seen a few US acoustic shows and that fantastic secret show in Vancouver four years ago. Id love to see more shows in that vein someday
