Bass player is a mystery, but Im assuming we'll have a piano player too? I mean Strange Days if done like the album would require it, and how could you do Running for Home without it?

the majority of Matt's band has played with him for a few tours on which Apparitions and Automatic have been played on everyone so I wouldn't think hearing those two would be unrealistic at all. Deep Six though as you said might be more of a wishlist. How many new songs does the band usually work up per tour? 10-12 tracks off the new album plus a few other rarities like Carmelina and full band Advertising for last tour. So based on that I would think the band probably had to spend some time working on about 10 of the BM songs (im assuming Giant, Time Bomb, Load Me Up and X-rated the band is pretty well versed on) so perhaps a few others could have had time to be worked on for the encores. I would think anything played on the last tour is at least a possibility because it could probably be worked out fairly quickly. But I remain doubtful about older deep album cuts showing up.

Like you Gursky I seldom check the facebook page, seems like not much happens there info wise, just alot of fans asking for shows in their hometown, regardless of what continent it's on. Instagram and twitter are obviously updated by Matt himself so I go there to get things from the horses mouth so to speak. Even though its slow at times, NF is still my main source because not only are current things discussed but usually in some detail and with show and cd reviews that go more in depth than "The Best EVA!" I like the idea of the Loser Anthems stuff, I love it actually, but I really don't think we'll see it. Playing Beautiful Midnight is a nod to the diehard fans, half the show is going to be obscure deep tracks that many fans in attendance won't know. With that in mind I just can't see the encore being even more obscure stuff. I figure Apparitions weapon and Born Losers will be pretty standard. Switch out a couple other hits like Everything is Automatic maybe Carmelina and thats about what I'm expecting. Course if he came out and started into anything other than the expected I'd love it, but I'm happy with anything, the Beautiful Midnight set gives me a great balance of hits to rarity anyways so I'll be beyond pleased with these shows sets. I too am hoping for some news on the voted on songs, I think that would be pretty interesting. I'm going to two of the Vancouver VIP's so I'm assuming by the end of the week I should be seeing an email with a list. I wonder if the list will stay the same as the tour goes or if other songs will be factored in as the tour rolls on. Another forum member mentioned it and I agree, it will be kind of cool to see which cities and which VIP experiences vote for what song.

Yeah nostalgia is a huge marketing factor these days baby boomers are nostalgic for the 50's and 60's Gen X'ers for the 70's and 80's and Gen Y'ers for the 90's-2000's. But I appreciate this new approach. Its a fantastic way to keep everyone happy because you are still playing hits, but you're also introducing deep cuts that haven't been played forever and as Matt has stressed are hard to plunk into a setlist because you want to play new stuff and hits, which kind of kills the opportunity for older deep cuts to make it. Haha your sports analogies are hilarious. I'm killing myself laughing thinking of some guy screaming out what club to use at a golf match.

Yeah its quiet, but there isn't much happening at the moment, but it will pick up in a couple days. Matt just finished rehearsals today and is heading home, for some much needed time with his family. I dont think hes been home with his family since before that X-mas vacation, so Im sure getting back to his own place and own bed will be a nice but brief respite before a nearly two month tour. On the plus side tickets appear to be selling good Four BC shows are sold out with the other three somewhere between 12-25 tickets away from selling out. Looks like five Ontario shows and Halifax have also sold out and many others could sell out by the time the tour rolls around. I agree with that recording, I listened to it recently with a girl who was at the show for her first Matt Good concert. She shared some memories before we listened and one thing she mentioned was this annoying fan who presistantly yelled Born to Kill. Well of course the recording was so clear it was so obvious to hear the exchanges she remembered. And agreed, fantastic rant from Matt and so true, why is music and concerts so acceptable to that kind of behaviour? It doesn't transfer to other mediums. I've never seen someone at an Ansel Adams exhibit belligerently yelling at museum personnel to display their favourite photograph.
-
Yes I happened to just listen to that the other day, it is the Edmonton 2011 show that Gursky recorded. A fan repeatedly yells BORN TO KILLLL and Matt addresses it with a rant where he ponders why people come to shows to yell requests. Pointing out that nobody goes to the opera and screams for another program to be played. Its quite funny, of course lost on the fan as he yells once more "Is it Born to Kill" after Matt says "i'm going to play something." As for the disclaimer bit, I guess I just have to try and put myself in the shoes of the casual fan. Here on The Bored we've known Matt was thinking about a BM style tour for about a year now, and he confirmed it probably 5 months ago. I guess to some casual fans they just heard Matt was coming and bought tickets. However, they do seem to follow his social media, at least enough to comment on it, so I am still confused how so many don't get what the tour is about.
-
I thought about that too Gomo but I dont believe it does. For one I would assume Matt would use an acoustic on new wave regardless of what version and the SG on Load Me Up leans towards original. Born to Kill is the only one that an acoustic would be an obvious departure from the BM album version. Also no guitar on Suburbia makes me think its more likely to be the original, but its not definitive. Matt commented again saying he was playing Beautiful Midnight front to back. Technically those new versions are not on beautiful midnight. So based on what Matt is saying im thinking he intends to play that album as was in 1999. I wish he would make it a little clearer on if that is the plan or if the bm revisited versions will get aired. On a side note. What is with all these fans on his social media requesting BM songs to be played in their city. Do they not understand the concept at all? Every show will hear every song on that album! I cant wait till those same people still dont understand the night of the show and stand there shouting requests for non beautiful midnight songs in the middle of the main set. Im going to 11 shows. I volunteer to stand up to the Mic and give everyone a disclaimer cause clearly too many haven't figured it out yet despite Matt's very clear posts pointing out his intentions on several occasions haha

Dave Genn Youtube Interview on Producing and MGB
adam_777 replied to daniel_v's topic in Matthew Good
I think its telling that Dave mentioned relistening to Beautiful Midnight a few years ago after not listening to them for a long time basically since probably when he left MGB. So to me at the very least. The fact that he choose to dust that off shows at least some change of attitude toward that part of his career in my opinion -
Dave Genn Youtube Interview on Producing and MGB
adam_777 replied to daniel_v's topic in Matthew Good
Thanks for posting this I look forward to watching it. I heard an interview of Dave Genn in the mid 2000's where he also discussed to some extent his time with MGB and he seemed anything, but bitter about it. It's strange to hear those style interviews and then hear about him deliberately ducking Matt at Geoff's funeral. It's too bad, I've always enjoyed Dave as a guitar player in his work with MGB and 54-40 and I'd be lying if I said I hadn't wished I could see him play with Matt again in some capacity, be it a tour, an album or even just a guesting spot on a single song. -
I'm feeling the same. I keep thinking I couldn't be more excited and then I start to think wow, at each show I'm going to hear "Running for Home" "Suburbia" "A Boy and His Machine Gun" "Born to Kill" and "Going all the Way" plus all the others and its just like wow. I can honestly say I've gone to every Matt Good show I've ever been to, hoping I would hear those songs. To get them all in one go like this is pretty remarkable, I've been counting down the days and I'm under a month now, so pretty exciting indeed.

Yes there is commentary for every music video on the in a coma dvd

It reminds me of how I feel about Devils in your Details. I like both songs, and they are catchy and in the right mood I quite enjoy them. The problem is because they are very mood specific for me, where the rest of the album I can listen to in any mood. So it becomes a rare song where I contemplate skipping when listening to the entire album.

I don't have much technical knowledge when it comes to drum recording techniques and so forth. I will say though, that although I prefer Ian's style of playing to Pat, the drum sound on Avalanche is one of the immediate improvements over the MGB days. I've always just assumed this had alot to do with Pat, but Matt makes it seem as though the politics of dealing with one squeaky wheel instead of four may have been a major factor as well. The drum sound on Won't Get Fooled Again is my all time favourite drum sound. When everything cuts out except the synth and the drums prior to the famous scream, that sound is perfection, just try not to air drum that.

I just talked to a friend I sent Hospital Music to as a gift. She claims no skip in 99% and I specifically asked her to listen for it. Ordered from maple music two weeks ago. -

Anyone want a little extra cash for Christmas? I'm looking to buy some MG rarities if anyone has any for sale. I'm only interested in CD's at the moment. I'm interested in singles and promo albums for the most part, but PM me with any cds you have, maybe we can make a deal on something. Thanks -Adam

Yeah I saw that and was very excited about it. It encourages me greatly for the new record because that's a hell of a statement to make, and clearly he feels strong about at least half the album. It's great to see him so enthusiastic after his earlier in the year crisis about what he could or should do going forward. Glad to see he is very much optimistic about what he is currently doing.

Yeah, sometimes you can oversaturate the market, but I would argue that the back catalog reissues won't interfere with sales of the new record. Most of the people buying the vinyls of the back catalog already own them in cd or digital and if you're a big enough fan to be buying the back catalog, I'm assuming you are going to be getting the new release in some form too. 2017 Could be The Year of Matthew Good. It's possible we'll get archive vinyls of the remainder of discography, a new record, a Beautiful Midnight tour and possible a late fall tour supporting the new record. -

Chaotic Neutral was out fall of '15 Vinyls came out in Jan of '16 I believe. The Chaotic Neutral vinyl was delayed significantly and ended up actually coming out at the same time as the other vinyls though. I'm assuming the next batch will have at least Audio of Being, Avalanche, WLRRR, Vancouver and Lights. Three of those were released on vinyl previously, but I am hoping they get re-released because of the lack of availability. I have Vancouver and Lights, but would like Avalanche for sure. I'd still really like the EP's though, Lo-Fi and Loser Anthems would be awesome! Raygun got released so there is hope. I think it'd be a cool marketing decision if a limited run of blue covered Loser Anthems were sold through Matt's website along with a wider release of the Orange ones. It'd be a clever way to get fans to double dip. What is the official colour of the Audio of Being cover anyways? I know people tend to lean towards black, plus the singles had black backgrounds, but the promo previews of the album that I've seen have always been white covered. -
Thanks Tony. I think thats about as definitive a statement on a release date we'll get. I find LoFi so fascinating because unlike other limited releases such as the Avalanche vinyl there was no gaurantee the biggest fans would get it. Many people who got copies were probably casual fans who made the decision to buy Underdogs well after its initial release. Unaware they were about to receive this rarity. I think that explains the rarity of this release. There are probably quite a few of the 5000 copies in the hands of casual fans who never even realized that add on cd was worth anything at all. There were only 1000 copies of the Avalanche vinyl yet I see it for sale all the time. Even Blue Loser anthems with a tenth the production of LoFi. I see with about the same frequency.

I'm still really hoping, although I know it is highly unlikely that a version of In a Coma will be turned into a double vinyl. I picture rooms on one album, except instead of a greatest hits on the other (because its redundant with all the other vinyl releases) Maybe we could have a rarities disc. Keep Pony Boy and All Together, throw on Omissions to make up for its absence. And then maybe add in 5-6 more b-sides like Can't Get Shot in the Back, Dusk, Hornets, whatever Matt's favourites of some of the stuff that hasn't seen an official release.
