Does anyone happen to have any live Hip Dvd's from after 2004? I have been trying to set up a B&P on their message board but no takers so far. I will gladly pay someone for the discs, shipping, and their time as well.

Growing up near Buffalo I was fortunate to have access to the hip. My father and I rarely spent time together for various reasons and one of the big things we had was the HIp. We got to see them live in Salamanca, NY a few yrs ago and the show was amazing. My wife hates going to concerts and the one band (besides Matthew Good actually) that I got her to see twice was the HIp. I heard the news this morning as everyone else did and still can't stop thinking about it. I called my father and we immediately reminisced about our favorite Hip memories. I am hoping that I can see the band in Buffalo or close by and more importantly that Gord does not suffer. I am not sure how true it is but I had heard Gord's wife was recently diagnosed with cancer also and that was the meaning behind their new single "In A World Completely Possessed By the Human Mind" If anyone can confirm that please do and please if you can see the hip do so as it is an experience you will never forget. Life is short guys life it up and love each other.

I agree that the quality of music has shifted over the past 5-10 yrs but the main source of revenue for an artist is their live shows. While downloading mp3's certainly has hurt some artists it shouldn't have as much effect on the touring artists. I would think bands that are awful live (puddle of mudd, comes to mind off hand) would hurt the most. If an artist puts out good music on a regular basis the fanbase will always be there. When a band takes 5-6 yrs to put out new music (think our lady peace, third eye blind, matchbox 20) that's when you start to lose the casual fans.

Looks Like Vinyl Releases Of Back Catalog Are Coming
foats replied to mrjason's topic in Matthew Good
This is sad to hear. I was going to order the vinyl but now think I should wait. I live in the States and don't want to deal with shipping back and forth if there is an issue. I hope that all of you get working copies. -
Matt, If you ever want to check out any of the live recordings I have feel free to let me know I have a soundboard CBC radio show from I believe 98 (Margo's got the cargo)
-
are you looking for songs, or the actual discs?
-
these are some of them thank you!! I often wondered if Matt came up with these on the fly or how he did it. If so the improvisation is outstanding and should be commended.
-
I was wondering if anyone has these or has a link to where I could find the lyrics Matt used when performing the song live (mainly in 2003). I remember there being one where it was an anti Nike rant and something along the lines of "Tonights airstrikes are brought to you by NIKE, building a better tomorrow by blowing the shit out of the competition today" Another one was about newspaper and media outlets bidding on who would pay for a child's prosthetic legs. I believe there were 4 or 5 different ones that Matt used and if anybody can post the lyric transcripts it would be great.

If Matt is to read this or anyone else feel free to pm me in private but I would be willing to possibly fund a show for Matt to play in Pittsburgh. I know more venue's have opened since he was last here for the acoustic show and I would be willing to personally cover any losses Matt and the band would not make from tickets/merch etc. I think once again if promoted properly we could get people from Buffalo/Cleveland to come and make it something special. Hearing Beautiful Midnight or any of the albums in their entirety live would be worth the price to me. I know people on the bored are from the US near Buffalo/Pittsburgh/Philly. Perhaps worst case scenario we do a go fund me if need be to get raise funds and get one big show here in the US.

Nothing surprises me these days lol. I would love to see if some of the newer songs were performed acoustically. Besides Sons and Daughters of course.

Tony, It's a good assumption that at over $100 a ticket the majority of the people who attended the shows could be businessmen who aren't diehard fans. Perhaps they saw Matt was in town and went to the shows as it would give them something to do on a Friday or Saturday night. Having said that I am still shocked that not even a setlist has been posted on setlist.fm

Id be interested in the shirts.

Something For Matt For Those Going To The Toronto Shows

One of his acoustic shows (philly maybe) was filmed in full. I have it. actually. Someone from this board taped it even. Still hoping even if it's just the audio that all 3 Toronto shows get taped and out to the public -
When Matt did his first solo acoustic show my wife and I went to the Buffalo show. As we were walking out one of the soundboard guys casually handed me a piece of paper. I thought "what the fuck is this" Turns out it was the setlist for the show. Pretty cool moment and memory from an amazing show.
-
@tony yes I have them from 1998 -present day. Quality on the earlier shows is pretty shoddy to say the least but listenable.

It sounds like Calgary had an "Army Of Lions" in the crowd. Sadly the Lions all were tired and wanted to sit.

This is a perfect setlist.

Something For Matt For Those Going To The Toronto Shows

Anton, I never knew it was a fan who recorded the Canada day show. It looks amazing quality wise. Almost as good as the show that was broadcast on Bravo. I don't think we should charge either unless it's something Matt wanted to do. If it turns out well it could be something done on every tour. I don't see any negatives to it as it would all be done by fans with their own equipment. Hopefully Matt, the label, and some venues get on board. -
I have about 5-6 shirts. All the cd's signed, At least 200 live shows in audio format, The History teacher demo's, and the At Last There Is Nothing Left To Say book.

Something For Matt For Those Going To The Toronto Shows

I have a couple hundred live MG/MGB shows going back to 1998. For some of them I did pay an arm and a leg for only for the quality to be sub par to say the least. I kept thinking that maybe something official would come out in DVD form or some prior live show but nothing did (with the exception of Masey Hall) The live road tracks were phenomenal and something like that with a full show would be amazing to have. I know Matt mentioned recording acoustic shows during his next tour and that too would be good. The problem I see is that most of his previous 2 acoustic tours were taped (audio at least) but rarely do full band shows get recorded. I much prefer the full band experience to the solo acoustic. -

I figure if a couple people do it you can get multiple camera angles/editing/etc. I think it would be huge in the MG community. -
Another member from the board and I were talking and thought it would be cool if Matt were to allow people to videotape the 3 nights in Toronto. It would be interesting since some of the songs would be played multiple nights (I imagine) and the best 18-19 songs could be put onto a dvd made by the fans and could be distributed here on the site (or on matt's official site should he choose) It wouldn't cost Matt a dime and supposing the venue allows this would be a nice gift for everyone. I am curious what everyones thoughts are on this.
