  1. this listening to beautiful midnight as much as i have been the last few months really gives you an appreciation for how much his voice improved. on beautiful midnight the highest note i can think of matt singing is a high e flat and he seemed to be struggling on some of those, but on man of action he hits a G above that and it just soars (the last "you can disappear"). then there is rat who would be king which shows incredible vocal control.
  2. hopefully someone grabbed it, it's always fun hearing one of your favorite acts talk enthusiastically about their favorite bands like an adoring fan.
  3. interesting talks, all kinds of stuff about the pixies, reasons why the acoustic massey show wasn't released (matt = sick, most sounded like crap), ripping on jeff martin for his nose candy habits, etc. EDIT: random interview mentions... -matt thought the last good album u2 put out was achtung baby, but zooropa had some standout tracks and beautiful day is worth mention -matt only listened to explosions in the sky and joy division when making vanouver, and is a huge fan of peter hook's bass playing -apparent radiohead fan as "ok computer" was one of his albums that must be bought from the 90's, along with tromp le monde by the pixies and and black love by the afghan wigs listen on their site... http://www.cfox.com

to middle class gangster's credit, at least it has a GREAT solo, the leslie/chorus effect makes it feel like the whole thing is spinning to pieces.

with rico, at least you get to chant "fuck off, fuck off, fuck off, etc." jenni's song you just get to stew in your rage at how such a song could make it onto such a high quality album.
  6. pop stuff = beautiful midnight & avalanche but i usually just recommend the deluxe version of in a coma. it has the hits and a bunch of obscure stuff, providing a nice balance that most greatest hits don't have.

  10. so i e-mailed alan cross thanking him for his quality interview of matt, and got this reply... for those that haven't gotten a chance to listen to the ongoing history of new music, hit up the torrents, it is a BRILLIANT show. It is pretty much responsible for 80% of the music i listen to now, detailing alternative styles of music from the 60's to the present, weird music inventions, city scenes, specific bands, etc. it is a MUST LISTEN for any music fan. It is great to see matt getting immortalized with his own 2 part series and i for one can not wait.
  11. that is exactly how an interview should be conducted. alan cross ftmfw
  12. Alan Cross extended interview !!!!! alan cross + matt good = pure win
  13. might try and get some scalped tickets for the second show, maybe if i find a job by then lol
  14. running for home is nearly complete, just needs vocals iirc
  15. we're working on it, hopefully by late october it will all be done. so far we have tracked at least SOMETHING for every song, a couple of tracks just need vocals and drums, some just need layers of noise, others need pretty much everything but we should be able to wrap it up sooner or later. cheers
  16. hmm, scalpers or try for good seats

  19. my favorite hidden gem track has to be "don't wake daddy" from trouble in the hen house, LOVE that track...
  20. same here, quite a few bands i like blend 2 or 3 songs together but i would love to see a whole album like that. another great example of this is optimistic>in limbo by radiohead
  21. in all fairness, matt even mentioned on his blog before releasing hospital music that he was writing longer songs that had more of a pink floyd influence, like the album "animals" further evidence of his love for this album can be found in its art work, exibit a...
  22. tip for text books, find out from your profs if used copies are fine and score used copies on the cheap from amazon. i cut my text book expenses from $500 one semester for 4 books, to under $100 the next for 5 books.
