  1. the stuff on his myspace wouldn't play for me, but i listened to the shit quality samples they have on amazon. sounds decent, but it's hard to tell from a 30 second, low quality clip. kind of a bruce springsteen "devils and dust" vibe (the only sprinsteen song i like).
  2. i like slipknot. well, their last two albums. i wouldn't really consider them traditional metal (no solos). cory taylor is a decent songwriter, whether you like his music or not. i won't call slipknot amazing, though, and i'd recommend stone sour over them anyday to exemplify taylor's writing. anyway, the only metal band i really listen to, i guess, would be nevermore. i've got a couple albums by them. no one's mentioned them in this thread, so there ya go.
  3. that'a all i want to see. it's not like i'd need my retinas for anything a few milliseconds after that. anyway, i just remembered that there may not even be any nukes pointed at halifax anymore since that whole cold war thing is over. dammit i want blast death, not fall out death.
  4. good luck digging through the permafrost. if it came to nuclear war, i'd set up a lawn chair on the halifax water front and wait for the most awesome fireworks display ever to begin. i just hope there would be enough time between the blast and vaporization to register seeing the blast.
  5. "our lives in these empty spaces aside" --stands out mostly because of the delivery.
  6. anything under 7 figures ain't "winning the lottery". what if it's the 649? 7 figures as in $.
  7. us and them - pink floyd
  8. word. i wiki searched em. says he's 'alt-country'. how country is 'alt-country'?
  9. anything under 7 figures ain't "winning the lottery".
  10. i've never heard of the album or the artist.
  11. i should have used the word "unpopular" instead of "underappreciated" i guess. edit: maybe not, actually, 'cause they are underappreciated albums compared to other albums by the same bands. hum's first album sold well. their second album is way better (opinion of course) but hardly sold at all. and as for the bosstones, "let's face it" sold well and "pay attention" tanked. "pay attention" every bit as good, but i've seen fans rip it up in reviews. what i should have said originally was relatively underappreciated albums.
  12. top five things i'd do if i won the lottery (after cashing the check): pay off debts cut checks for immediate family members buy gifts for friends buy house buy aforementioned guitars
  13. albums you like/love that maybe no one else does. for me, it would be hum "downward is heavenward". i think i might be the only person on earth that listens to this album. also, mighty mighty bosstones "pay attention". it was their next album after "let's face it", which was pretty popular. i've seen it ripped on in reviews and i guess it didn't sell real well, but it's one of my favorite bosstones albums.
  14. swinging man - black flag
  15. have you head the nin kroq almost acoustic christmas bootleg? another very good nin live album. huge nine inch nails fan right here (points to self).
  16. what's your favorite live album ever? mine would have to be the allman brother bands live at fillmore east. i guess there are two releases of it, but the one i'm talking about is the more complete one, called "the fillmore concerts". awesome awesome blues rock album.
  17. top five guitars i'd like to own when i can afford and deserve them: Fender Stratocaster (american deluxe) Fender Telecaster (american deluxe) Fender John 5 Tele with Bigsby ESP Viper (with seymour duncans, not emgs) a really nice acoustic (martin, taylor, etc)
  18. they might be okay with a different singer.
  19. born of a broken man - rage against the machine
  20. i wonder how many people think that's a johnny cash song now?
  21. i like the clash, but i love what he did with the mescaleros. i'm glad he managed to get enough of streetcore done for it to be released before he died. wish he were still around. terrible loss.
  22. i laughed out loud when i saw the video for their first release. i laughed out loud again when i read the interview with tom delonge in guitarworld where he was talking like what he was doing now is some kind of fantastical musical journey. hard to take him seriously after blink 182. and using delay a la edge from u2 and standing in front of green-screened spacey backgrounds doesn't make your music deep and meaningful. my 2 cents.
  23. you shook me - led zeppelin
  24. please - turn off the stars
  25. blue haze - miles davis
