I will admit that I have relied on Matt's blog to feed me news information. Often though, I would follow the links from Mblog, to the source sites. I found that Matt tended to offer a news article, and then an opinion. It was a convenience for me to use Matt's site as a filter for what I wanted to read. I realize that in effect I was trusting that Matt was offing an impartial opinion. I was very impressed at how Matt posted links to stories I was particularly interested. Now I have to go about the process of reading the news for my self. Peace

In regards to the opinions made about other artists. I will be the first to tell you I don't like Avril. But, I don't go to her website and make defamatory comments about her. In fact, most reasonable people stay away from websites about things they don't like. Since Matt's music is very much in line with his political opinions, then I don't see why people who don't really like his music would continue to visit his web site. Matt has been very left wing since he release "21st Century Living", and in WLR&RR songs like "North American for Life" and "Alert Status Red" which make direct statements about the US administration, should really make right wing pundits wonder whether or not they really agree with this guy. I think that they would figure out that he's not got the kind of opinions they support, and move on to something else. Peace

Unfortunately, although I respect you have first hand experience. I don't find that I am able to make an objective decision about what actually transpired. At this point this whole conversation is just a he said, they said. There are no facts available for me to come to a reasonable conclusion. Peace

I'm not so sure it was the people with well constructed arguments that where the problem. I think it was the people making death threats... or the people that where being ignorant. I'm not saying all people that disagree with Matt are ignorant. I'm simply saying that a few make statements based on poor, or no information. Peace

Without somebody posting a transcript of what actually transpired, none of us (who where not present) will be able to effectively make any decisions about the validity of these statements. I which case this may deteriorate into a pointless exercise in finger pointing. Peace

I think there is a lot of fear-mongering going on in the US right now. There is an almost irrational fear of terrorism, even though you are statistically unlikely to be killed by a terrorist. Clearly this debate is circular i.e. that both sides can continue to argue, and neither will agree. Peace

I believe your missing his point. (Sorry for putting words in your mouth here) It's not about the negative things people say, it the fact that the only response is negative. It's the fact that he feels like he is fighting an up hill war, and that everybody is not interested in listening to him. I'd like to thank you Matt. Because of your blog I have become interested, and more informed about world issues. I will now, in the blogs absence, make it my own task to seek out the same information that you so diligently organized and posted on your blog. I find that I support you, not only because I like your music, but because you have always spoken your mind. I'm sure that you will continue to do so in some capacity in the future. Yeah. I think it's for the best. I mean we have no way of knowing what it's like to be passionate about a cause, but be verbally abused by everybody on the internet. I mean that happens here, but to a limited extent. Matt puts himself out there, because he believes in something, and all that he gets is attacked and abused by anybody who can type. Matt is a very articulate guy, and I imagine if somebody presented him with a sound argument, he would debate the point. The problem is that many people just email him and tell him that he's a fucker and he's wrong. I mean if you got 500+ emails a day telling you that, it would get to you. Peace
