Greatest Video Ever
CaptainRocket replied to Kayriss's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
If it's the Aphex Twin video I'm thinking of, everyone in it has this weird face, and there is dancing...it kind of makes fun of rap videos, but it's not haha funny. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong/explain this better, as it's too early for me still. Anyways, my faves: PJ - Do the Evolution Weezer - Buddy Holly Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight (I would also say 1979, but that is more for the song I think.) Pavement - Cut Your Hair (so funny!) MGB - Apparitions Sigur Ros vids are all really cool as are White Stripes Vids... And I must say for the record, Thriller is such a joke now, it is so over the top. And Sledgehammer rules! -

Harry Potter And The Half-blood Prince
CaptainRocket replied to Crusader's topic in Rentals, Television, and Readables
Okay, I'm going to go out on a limb here. The Harry Potter books are some of the best children's literature out there. Forget for a second that it is a heavily marketed movie franchise. If you are calling Goosebumps good kids books then there is no point arguing this because you are too far gone to be reached, and will be reading drugstore books the rest of your life. Anyways, I've read all the books, and they are the most engaging children's books I've read since I read the Hobbit and the Chronicles of Narnia. Regardless of the fact that Harry is a whiny twit, the characters are engaging and the world is fully realized. They are good books, and though they are aimed at children, I find that they don't really talk down to children, which is what sets apart the good from the bad in this genre. And seriously, Dragonlance?! Read Lord of the Rings, not the cheap lift of it. They based their books on a game of D&D for goodness sake! -
Yeah I was trying to say that the Original Ninja turtle comics we're from Japan. They we're from way before the TV show thats how they started. There was an anime of the turtles made only in Japan in the 90's, but otherwise, they are 100% American I'm afraid. Check this out. Go to Site Map, and then TMNT origin story.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
CaptainRocket replied to CaptainRocket's topic in Rentals, Television, and Readables
You have no idea how bad it is. It is the worst movie I've ever seen, and anyone who has any respect for the Beatles should do as I do, and have Peter Frampton killed. GAH! They were like, "Hey! Let's not just butcher the great album this movie is 'based' on, let's take Abbey Road and cut up the medley! And let's put Alice Cooper in it, and Aerosmith!" The whole time you either hate Frampton and the Bee Gees, or you feel bad for George Burns. I can't actually recommend this movie to anyone, ever, even as a joke. Just thinking about it makes me so angry...worst movie ever. They set the movie in the town of Heartland, USA, for Christsakes! It's not even 'bad funny'. Just terrible, and rotten...ugh... I have to stop talking about it, so I can listen to the real Beatles and clean out my brain. -

Lost in the Plot is really nice. Did anyone pick up their live album? -
Seriously Serious got mixed reviews here, but I liked it. Free Download is just a fun song, so I would get Seriously Serious first.

Why is that? Is it poor quality? ...or something much, much worse...

I think his art is an acquired taste. I, too, hated it at first, but I have grown to love it now. One of the best artists of the '80s, and very influential.

Do you mean the term originated in Japan or the Turtles' comic originated in Japan? Because I know it was made (and still is) in Massachusetts. Anyways, I see where you're coming from, I just don't apply the term manga to comics that aren't Japanese.

The BonTempo stuff is pretty funny... I really want to hear Matt's Who cover, "Can't Explain"...is that one worth it?

Ha! emo-shame... Drinking alone because of heartbreak? For me, it was all about Neil Young - Harvest Moon, the whole album. -
