  1. Whenever I read a quote of hers, I always imagine it being said by Ursula from the Little Mermaid.
  2. Is it just me, or is Joel Siegel one of those movie "critics" who loves pretty much every big-budget picture that comes out and is willing to felate it in print? It seems to me that at least half the movies that get panned in the papers get raves from him and others who write for big name papers and magazines.
  3. Comfortable Criminals Haven't Slept In Years (LOTGA) Man of Action (borderline dislike) Song for the Girl
  4. 8/10 That's a funky-ass keyboard.
  5. Weird Al is the man. For myself and several of my friends, our very first albums were Weird Al albums. I never get tired of him.
  6. I myself really don't have a problem with the overt politics, and I respect Matt for doing what he can to make his fans aware of issues that need to be heard. However, I think that constant references to current events and people tend to make the lyrics dated, like I mentioned before. I like how the 'Tidal Wave' lyrics are, but a couple years down the line, will they still have the same poignancy? Compare them to 'Blue Skies Over Bad Lands' or 'Empty Road', two other protest-style songs like 'Tidal Wave' and I don't think they really stack up at all in terms of relevance in the future once Bush is out of office and US ties to the Saudis are lessened to the point where there isn't any energy dependence. It's the same reason why Bob Dylan's music is still relevant today. Much of it can be applied to today's current situation as if it was written yesterday. The 'Tidal Wave' chorus, however, is pure, concentrated awesomeness. I wonder if he got the idea from the book 'Crashing the Gate' by Markos Moulitsas, the guy who does Daily Kos.
  7. Agoraphobe actually ended up as a Limblifter song. They posted a demo of an extended version with more lyrics on their Myspace.
  8. The videos are on the DVD. The songs aren't on disc 1.
  9. I don't think that it's so much the content of the lyrics, just a general annoyance of too much politics. Or something like that. Myself, I really enjoy it and I think that it's a relevant song to the current situation, although some of the lyrics make it a bit dated.
  10. I thought that Israel withdrew from Lebanon in 2000. Why is Hezbollah still pushing their resistance shit when they accomplished their main goal six years ago? Or was it only a partial withdrawal? Jus' wonderin'.
  11. This makes me wants to be a telemarketer. ;)
  12. The Hitler vs. Coulter Quiz! I got 12/14, plus a good laugh.
  13. World War 3. Maybe. Hezbollah = Black Hand. Iran says that if Syria is attacked, then they will join in. This is similar to how World War 1 started. The anti-Syrian government in Lebanon probably won't last very long if this all keeps up.
  14. Well, he's not completely innocent, that's true. He's capable of being an asshole perfectly fine by himself ("Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job," for example, or the stuff with the NSA wiretapping, which he'll probably defend right to the end because he could be impeached over it). The fact that he wouldn't accept Rumsfeld's resignation is quite troubling and just goes to show (once again) how big a wanker he is. Apparently, there's a Director of Lessons Learned, getting paid 100K a year from the White House. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/7/12/131219/124
  15. Oh yeah, I know all about PNAC and all that fun. But the thing is, if you read the link I gave, then it seems like Cheney is the real evil "genius" behind most of what this administration does. Remember, Cheney was the one who was tasked to find a VP for Bush back in 2000 and ended up choosing himself. It's just some food for thought. Bush would be better off as the baseball commissioner. He'd smoke out those steroid users.
  16. Just this one point that I'd like to explore a bit: do you think that Kim Jong-Il would be as bad or worse than Bush if he had access to an army like the American armed forces? North Korea has a huge army (fourth largest in the world), but it can't be as advanced as the Americans. As well, North Korea doesn't have many natural resources as the Americans do. Their economy isn't exactly the strongest. If the roles were reversed, do you think George Bush would be doing everything he can to develop a nuclear weapon? I don't think so. He may be a complete dolt, but he's not insane, nor is he evil (Cheney on the other hand...). This is an interesting read.
  17. My reaction: something of a mix between   and ;) .
  18. The Trews do a fairly decent cover of Hey Jude.
  19. Whatevs. I feel like listening to the Clash right now.
  20. I've heard more about it than I would ever have liked to. Obviously not enough to know what you're talking about. Don't give me that bullshit. I understand enough to know I can't stand the sound of the music and that the lyrics are whiney and cliche. Can't stand the music? That's one thing and that's perfectly fine. The lyrics? When you take the songs by themselves, yes they are whiny and whatnot. But when you put them into the whole plotline of the story the album tells, then they become less about the band whining and more of the character's story. That was my original point.

  22. Um...ok...I assume you don't actually know the concept of the record or the story it tells?
