Sounds like a late fan to me! My first TRUE exposure to the Matthew Good Band was seeing 'Everything Is Automatic' debut on the Muchmusic Top 30 Countdown back in September of 1997. BUT, I might have heard 'Symbolistic White Walls' on the radio prior to that; I can't remember.

What the hell is this? Bluebird, in my opinion, is the BEST pre-ghetto MGB track! Native Son is just a 3 minute folk song; if this WAS a PRE-GHETTO track, it wouldn't be getting the votes. Vastly, vastly superior song that Bluebird. No contest. Anyway, if I must: Anti-pop While We Were Hunting Rabbits Everything is Automatic Man of Action Mercy Misses You Advertising on Police Cars We -
Apparitions isn't on Beautiful Midnight though.

I completely agree that Matt Good should open a new page in his life artistically and primarily focus on modern material. But the problem I see with this is that his later material is extremely lackluster in comparison to anything MGB related. But I guess he is 35 years old (or something) now and doesn't want to write edgy songs but rather act as the stereotypical rock n roll musician.

Depressing songs have always made me happier. Sure, people cry when they are overwhelmed with joy but I don't see the relation of that while listening to an album; seeing a song performed live that "touches you"... for sure, definitely.

2005 Matthew Good Band Elimination
Shortcut To Moncton replied to NationofCool's topic in Matthew Good
Wow, I didn't think Catastrophe was going to win that one. 1) All Together 2) Break Into The Rhythm (close match! As for me, Rhythm is ranked 89th overall and Euphony at 91st) 3) Generation X-Wing (the classic original) 4) Endsong is a great song!! One of Matt Good's greatest from the pre-ghetto era (both versions!). I'm repulsed at the majority of you; sickened really. But Suburbia is sadly the better song. 5) THERE. HERE is the CHAINSAW vs. CHIHUAHA match for the ENTIRE competition. What an embarassment. Obviously Sort Of A Protest Song. 6) A Boy and His Machine Gun (arguably more embarrasing than the previous match!!) 7) The Bombmaker 8) interesting match...but Indestructible. 9) Truffle Pigs (original) -
1) Middle 2) Born 3) Style 4) Dark 5) Fall 6) Prime (original) 7) War 8) World 9) Blue (because I have the power to!) A side note, someone has to be IN A COMA *wink* to choose Hopeless over The War is Over. No really, I'm being serious though.

Just like to add that MuchOnDemand actually used to play videos by request. Of course, it used to be called RSVP where the vjs SAT DOWN and read requests. In around 2001, they changed it to MuchOnDemand, but for maybe 5 months, they still played viewer requests but then it all started to slide at around June of 2001. This was the SAME TIME when Sook Yin Lee, Bill W(not going to begin to spell his name), Rachel Perry, Master T, ALL LEFT the channel. During this time, the muchmusic coundtown also started to become dumbed down. Once a song hits the top 10, it SLOWLY peaked its way to number one (by literally one position per week); to please the typical demographic music fans that they are so desperately aiming for. ALSO during this time, the Much Spotlight decided to now AIR commercials and play less videos. (Sometimes, they used to have Part II and Part III specials on non Top 40 Bands) but now, they MUST, the band MUST be the current trend to even be considered. Aside from the brutality of mid-2001, there has been some terrible changes as of late too. Combat Des Clips, I mean Combat Zone, used to be a good show to watch. Now they DON'T even show the videos at the beginning and when the choices come up on screen, ONLY THE GROUPS are shown, NOT the songs. So the song itself doesn't even matter, it's all about who's the trendier group to the 13 year old demographic audience they have right now. Remember when MuchTakeOver was new and they actually chose ONE PERSON to decide all the requests on their own; now that was a pretty cool idea. Now they are too focused on competing with each RATHER than the actual videos being played that regularily don't receive air time! I really could go on forever but I'll stop.

2005 Matthew Good [band] Elimination!
Shortcut To Moncton replied to NationofCool's topic in Matthew Good
Yes! Great idea. But one problem is see is that everyone will be biased and choose Rooms songs over older material because they are more fresh to the ears. 1) Flashdance II 2) The Rat Who WOULD Be King 3) Tripoli 4) Entresol 5) Life Beyond The Minimum Safe Distance 6) M. Good v. M. Trolley 7) The Fine Art Of Falling Apart 8) The Last Poem's Poet 9) Can't Explain -
Matt Good Would Be Pleased.

My top 5? One serious mistake that I made was placing Casual Walks that low. That is a huge error and I don't have the slightest clue how it landed there. It shall rise significantly when I rerank them (by listening to all the songs in order, of course). Everything else is perfectly fine. Radio_Bomb, I must say that I do respect your list for the most part. The only thing that I must drastically disagree with is your placement of 'The Future Is X-Rated' but I can let that slip by. -
