Just gave it my first listen and I really liked it. You're not going to revisit my favourite album of all time and necessarily improve it in my eyes, but I'm very happy with what was produced. I'm interested to see if the remaining songs on the full album get these same sort of treatment. The article linked to on the previous page leads me to believe they will be. I'm curious how that's going to be received by fans of Beautiful Midnight that aren't like us. How will Mr. and Mrs. casual fan feel about it? The article is worth a read and he touches on something that I don't believe many think too hard about: the current iteration of the band has been together longer than MGB was. It seems obvious that they'd take a different direction with older material.

Something I've always found odd about The Rat Who Would Be King is that he's managed to hit that note live more than a couple times.

While I realize it was played at every single show for a while there, I'd love to see Non-Populous make its way back into the rotation as an encore song. The energy that thing generates is outstanding.

I was just going through the "best of the week" playlist on Apple Music and it was just sitting there. Sounds awesome!

I was able to get better seats (one section closer to centre) by refreshing the page a few times about 10 minutes after buying the tickets. Luckily the refund policy was pretty much painless.

Just grabbed 4 tickets for the Calgary show. Not exactly great seats... seems the only ones available to me were on either end of the venue. In hindsight I should have tried for 2 sets of 2 instead of a grouping of 4.

Ya, have to respect his wishes on this one. For those who didn't hear it: I think we've got some good tunes ahead of us.

To be fair Carmelina, Tripoli, Advertising on Police Cars, Truffle Pigs, The Rat Who Would Be King, and Sort of a Protest Song have been rolled into live performances since that album came out. Given how Matt talks about the album from time to time, I'm impressed we hear as much as we do. I agree with you though, it'd be cool to hear that album reworked and toured. For the time being though Beautiful Midnight is my favourite album of all time, so this is bloody brilliant to hear. Only having to wait 2 weeks for the EP is pretty exciting as well. Should be a fun winter.

Thanks x2 for the setlist. The two I remember were: 1. Hello Time Bomb was written in 45 minutes on a dare using a broken-ish guitar and recorded on a physical tape. Warne heard the tape on the way to the studio and declared that it would be recorded that day. 2. The studio used to get messages to him via Dave in a way that was perhaps meant to be sneaky. Upon being told that Audio of Being needed some more singles, he wrote Anti-Pop as a joke/F-U assuming it would be thrown away for being ridiculous. It did not work as planned.

I'm driving back home tomorrow, but the quick version is that was the best acoustic show I've seen. I really appreciated the venue asking people to keep their conversations to a minimum. It's unfortunate that such an announcement is required, but it is. There were two ways the show could have gotten out of hand. It was a beautiful winery so the booze was flowing like crazy and there was the curious addition of an intermission. My assumption is that's how the winery can pack in some more sales (and set up some lighting to accommodate the lost sun). Both worked. People came back pretty sloppy – but I have to hand it to them – it could have been way worse. Some women started dancing up front at the tail end of the encore, but it didn't escalate to anything silly or concerning. The show itself was great. Vocals were fantastic considering I think he was fighting something. A few songs stood out as unique (how it goes, Ommissions, Fake Empire cover, Sons and Daighters, Kid Down The Well). There was a set list on the ground and since he wasn't technically on a stage people were just taking photos of it before he came out and during the intermission... not how I want to experience a show but to each their own. Sadly it was gone after the show so you'll have to find it elsewhere or wait for me to parse through the crude recording I made. His humour was on point. He's always witty, but the crowd was responding really well to his chatty nature between songs. The highlight for me was at the end he just hung out and took photos and chatted with fans. He was in a great mood and I was able to get a photo and thank him for the show. So much for the "quick version".

I officially feel underdressed for a Matt Good show. Shame they couldn't have gotten a venue with a nice view.

Anybody going to the Kelowna show? I'm in town visiting family and will be going. It's already a goddamn furnace over here. From the sounds of his Twitter posts it should be a fun one.

Well wouldn't you know, some more tickets opened up. On the surface I do totally agree with you, but I can't deny the fact that I've never gone to a show and been underwhelmed. For that reason I went for it. I will argue you a bit on the single-heavy acoustic shows. The last time he ran through Calgary (acoustically) he put together a bonkers playlist of rarities. Truffle Pigs, Omissions of the Omen, and A Boy and his Machine Gun just off the top of my head. Yes, Matt was plagued with some technical difficulties that completely removed a couple strings from his monitor and it drove him insane, and yes there was a weird bald guy who killed the entire vibe of the show around song #4, but in the end that setlist was undeniably strong. I believe he self-proclaimed it as "the worst show ever" on Twitter, but I walked away with several big positives. There's no way to tell if this setlist would be like that or more traditional. Whichever direction he decides to go, I'm sure it'll be solid.

You know a game is designed well when the idea of getting the speed run trophy is fairly exciting. Speed runs are generally the last thing on my mind when I'm aiming for a good time.

On the upside I saved $100 by taking too long to decide. Went to buy tickets and it's all sold out. Not quite my finest hour.

It's $100, so I'd assume it's a full show. It is at a winery though, and admittedly I can't say I'm familiar with how events like that typically go.

After finishing Uncharted 4 and currently half-way to the platinum I can safely say it's my favourite game of the generation so far.
