Is anybody alive out there?

Yes a Springsteen shout out.

How can this place have no posts in months?

Triage is…interesting. I’m not a rap fan but I certainly don’t hate it. It’s growing on me and I’m willing to give this a shot. At least give him props for expanding in new directions.

And most importantly for me…shows below the border for the first time in a long time. So much has changed for me. Had this been ten years ago I would have caught all three. I cannot make Pittsburgh sadly due to kids etc. Hoping for Baltimore or Philly or DC in the future but that appears to be unlikely. Just glad to see he remembers there’s fans down here. Heck, some of us even voted for Trump 😂. All joking aside, I’m just glad to see me of my favorite artists is doing okay. It looked pretty sketchy for awhile.

if Matt still reads these forums, or anyone…I may be typing into the abyss, I’m glad you’re doing well. Keep your head up. And if you didn’t take the hint…get you ass back to central/eastern PA soon!!

I'm super excited, 10 mins from my house in Pittsburgh!

Happy for you. If I was you I would go too. That’s pretty cool. I’ve always had to travel. This place is dead. May be my last post here. Pretty much a ghost town. I hope you have a great time.

I still lurk on here. Check in every once in a while. It's been 5 years since an album at this point. It seems like one might be coming soon and I will welcome that. Not much else to say though. In the meantime, I've been discovering my love of ambient music. If you like that kind of thing, check out the music channel "Odd Behavior" on YouTube...good stuff, and one of the few of its kind NOT AI generated.

Will keep checking here to see if there's any news on a new MG album. I won't be attending any upcoming shows, but I can live with that.

There is some mild drama in the mattgood subreddit where he is getting dragged for allegedly using alt accounts.  Matt should come back to post in this forum instead.

The last time I heard from Matt in here was on October 5, 2023. He was very nice.
It doesn't seem likely he'll be back but if he did come back, this place would sure liven up!
How come this place is so dead? Some people haven't been here for more than a year.

No new music in awhile. Limited touring until recently. The allegations causing him to retreat. No record label or promotion or anything there for awhile.

I know it's subjective but I thought moving Walls was incredibly boring. There just isn't much to log in and talk about most days.

There was an AMA last night.  Also a tour coming up. Anyone going to the Pittsburgh show?  Seeing him less than 10 minutes from my house is a dream come true!

I have a distinct memory of listening to Moving Walls on the day it came out while I was on vacation in Orlando. About 3 or 4 weeks before the world shut down for COVID. Guess I don't have a particularly good association with the album based on that. I like a few songs on it, but I think the album suffers a little from being too long.

I'm still bitter we didn't get an album version of the original 20-minute demo of Something Like A Storm.

He canceled all US shows:

To my US fans, and friends. I’ve come to the personal decision, that I can’t, in good conscience carry out my dates this summer in your country. This is not fair to you, and I’m very well aware of that, but the truth is, every week that goes by, I have a deeper disdain for what’s going on there politically. My world has always focussed on political awareness, and I know that you might not all be on the same side, so I want to be clear about this. It’s MY opinion, and I’m willing to risk my future US career, to stand up against things today, and god willing, for ONLY another 3 years. Recently, it was announced that after a year of an imposed digital services tax, we (Canada) are backing down from that, to appease Mr. Trump’s government. This was approximately 2 billion dollars in revenue that has been accumulating, and we’re walking away from that. Add to that, the massive increase in visa costs, the fear mongering that even after we have our visas, we may still be denied entry if we have something negative to say about the current GOP, and I end up in a situation where I’m biting my tongue, and losing what credibility I had to stand up and say something. Myself, and my band will lose a week’s worth of work, and that really hurts, but giving up 30% of our earnings to a withholding tax, walking on eggshells at the border, and actively participating in the silencing of opinions, is a bigger cost to me personally. I realize that I have approximately .00001% impact on things overall, as this was just a few thousand tickets, but I can’t stand by and be quiet while our amazing country is bullied into walking away from billions in needed revenue, constantly left wondering if we actually have a partner or an enemy to the south, and equally as tragic, supporting someone who has completely bastardized the institution of art and culture in the US. I would invite other artists to join me, but that’s unfair. I have built a career here in Canada that I’m proud of, and will double down here over the next 3 years, and invite my US fans to any show they want to here. Our friends, Texas King, might suffer more out of this, as our support act for these shows…so as a favour, we encourage you to get out and support them wherever you can!

was gutted to find this out Friday.  Had been looking forward to this show since the day tickets went on sale.  I understand Matt's political views but not all of us in the US are supporting what Trump is doing. I also wish the shows would have been cancelled longer than 4-5 days before show date.  I'l always be a fan but this one hurts.

it's not a good sign that the official website still shows Pittsburgh and Buffalo as happening.

Again, this is not on Matt but whoever his label/company are they are dropping the ball. Pittsburgh had 0 advertisement. I live 5 mins from the venue and had I not seen an ad on social media I never would have known.  I feel like with a dedicated street team he would have sold far more tickets.

There's always a work-around. You can drive or take a flight to his Niagara Falls show in November.

Part of the appeal was finally not having to travel.

And for those who were still travelling within the states, it’s likely too late to cancel flights, hotel etc.

I get it but it’s really shitty at the same time.

I feel your pain. That majorly sucks.

The same thing happened to me once. It was too late for me and my friend to cancel flights and hotel when Matt canceled his CedarCreek Estate Winery in Kelowna at the last minute. He had an emergency medical procedure at the hospital. That's a lot of money down the toilet. We did it all again for his rescheduled show. That concert was a memorable one and the scenery was breathtakingly beautiful, so that more than made up for it.

Let’s all be honest. Let’s do something Matthew Good is not very good at. This will be harsh and will probably be my last post on here. But sometimes a spade has to be called a spade.

I live in PA and I’ve been a fan since middle school. I was lucky to get the bastardized version of BM and it went from there. I’ve seen him three times in the states and drove to Canada once to see him.

I found out about these shows through dumb luck. There was zero advertising or promotion. The man never had much of a following here. I saw him twice in Philadelphia, a decade before he was canceled by the liberal left and there were maybe a hundred people. Anyone else remember the 2013 tour that was going to be his “breakthrough” in the states and was then canceled with the post from management that they couldn’t let him do the tour because he didn’t sell enough and would lose a ton of money? I do.

These shows were not a “tour”. Not even a brief “tour”. I do not consider three cities, all of which are within a 2 Hour drive of the Canadian border a tour. This does not have anything to do with Trump. This has to do with not selling enough tickets. I’m not saying I blame him because at the end of the day it’s business. But the reality of the situation is that between all the drama of the last five years, and the fact that he never had a large enough fan base down here, blaming this on tariffs in the Trump administration is total bullshit. Anybody else that doubts that I think is highly delusional. Whether or not you love, Donald Trump is not the issue here. Donald Trump has been president since January. These shows were booked and scheduled way past then. So to blame this on Donald Trump being the president and his policies is just not factual. In fact it’s a downright lie.

I will always continue to support Matthew’s music because it has meant so much to me since the time I was about 12.

Matthew Good reminds me of another singer songwriter musician that I also enjoy, which is Ryan Adams. Both of their careers fell apart for sort of kind of the same reasons. Both arrogant narcissists. They are both two unquestionably extremely talented artists, who both want to blame other people for their own failures and shortcomings. But at the end of the day, their carreer’s demise is their own doing. In all reality, I was not going to make the 4 Hour Dr. each way to Pittsburgh. Life‘s obligations do not allow that any longer. But for those of you who had tickets, I would encourage you to use your brain and realize that you are being lied to.

I guess what I’m trying to say in a nutshell is that if the man cannot sell enough tickets or is not in good enough physical or mental health, just tell the truth. No harm no foul. Don’t blame Trump. You knew for well what you were getting into when you booked the tour and again I use that term with “. “. And I highly doubt Matt reads this page anymore, and I highly doubt that he cares, but even after Trump is no longer in office, I will not be coming. Just like Ryan Adams you’ve done everything possible to derail your career down here. Did he ever stop to think about the people that took time off work, coordinate with a babysitter, book a hotel, set aside money which for many of us is in short supply to buy a ticket? Sure as hell doesn’t sound like it. For those of you who wish to continue the journey, I wish you well. I just saw Ryan Adams in Reading Pennsylvania on Monday night. They were about 200 people there in a theater that seats 1800 or so 10 years ago that place would’ve sold out in minutes. I think it’s time to face the truth that Matt’s career may not be over, but many of us have had enough of the bullshit. i’m not somebody that believes he ever should’ve been canceled because I’m not a liberal loon. But the man has a genuinely good knack for sabotaging his success. I’ve read all the interviews where he never wanted to come down here and never wanted to do business in the United States. Well, I guess he got his wish. It’s a real shame because there’s a lot of people down here who would have probably become big fans. Shoulda woulda coulda. Too late for that now. This cancellation, especially with a weeks notice, is a slap in the face to all of you who had tickets or were going to buy tickets. I hope you’re smart enough to realize that now. Rather than tell a lie, why not just say what was said a decade prior. “Hey guys ticket sales were below what we expected them to be. It would become a logistical nightmare to come down there to play to 50 people at each show. I’m sorry to report that I am going to have to cancel because we are going to end up losing money that we do not have right now“. That would be respectful and honest. This excuse is not. I laugh and shake my head when I read the Reddit of all the fanboys and fangirls saying he did the right thing.

Here’s to playing venues with a 300 capacity limit in Canada and zero shows here. Adios and thanks for the memories and ride on Nearfantastica. Oh and by the way, Matt, Trump 2028. 😂

I feel like there could be something done for the people in the US who purchased tickets. Whether it be a live stream from one of the Canadian shows, or another garage type show that could be live streamed, maybe add a Q and A to it?  Something.

Guitarman, I didn't realize the US dates were cancelled only a week or 2 before the shows.  That is inexcusable.  And I agree it was very likely done for sales/money reasons over political ones.  Yeah if you take a political stance you should do it months out, not a week or 2 when hotels and trips are booked and days taken off work etc.  Odd because it's not something I could have seen Matt doing 10 or 15 years ago.

Between the new music being mixed quality at best the last several years and all sorts of nonsensical drama including this terrible marketing management and the fact that there's essentially zero online presence from him that isn't locked behind a paywall I've tapped out on the last couple of tours.  I'll probably check out the new album out of curiosity and tradition.

I hope everyone here is well and those going enjoy the coming tour and album.

I am going to his concert in November, but even buying that ticket was a stretch for me. It's been harder and harder for me to care and be engaged with his music lately. I don't know. Something has to change. Maybe I should get off the Mattgood reddit. There's a lot a negative stuff over there.

They have a terrible merchandise team too. On February 2nd, Patreon said VIP ticket holders would be getting an email in the next week to get details on when the limited cassette tape, from May 2024, would be shipped. Their customs broker said they would in fact be getting them. They were expected to arrive in Toronto the next week. Still nothing to this day. If you say you're going to do something, DO IT!!!  Pathetic.

The $7.50/month Patreon is pretty bare bones too. We're lucky to get a post or a Q&A with Matt once every two weeks. They could take a lesson from The Jann Arden Podcast's Patreon. They have 10 times more content and you only pay a minimum of $3/month. They are posting left, right and center in their little Patreon community. They even have a book club membership option for $7/month.
