Worthless United

"one of" -
Just curious as to what everyone thinks of Worthless United, they're one of my favourites. They broke up at the end of 2003, but they've lately scheduled some reunion shows, so I guess they're still around a little bit. I was only able to find one song of theirs, and I don't feel like ripping one of their CDs, so if you havn't heard of them you can check it out. Though I stress this isn't nearly one of their best. http://s48.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2Y4VI63...JX0GICWA5HBMWCA

Billy Talent
Radiohead replied to drache's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
This is like the 3rd thread I've seen started about Billy Talent. And they havn't gotten any better since the first one. So let's maybe spend some time on bands that don't suck and are a little original. -
Best Ben Folds Song

I'd say the dog looks more unimpressed than unhappy. But no, I don't make it listen to the Killers, if that's what you're worried about Mrs. Jesus -

Both the songs I posted were off of the album "Futureperfect" which is just as awesome as Empires. -

I'm glad everyone doesn't hate me. Here's a mellow VNV song just for being nice, good change of tempo. Airships by VNV Nation http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=03UDF4U...7E01HZP70LCUXPQ -

And I wonder what making a big deal out of nothing makes you look like. Either way, it's beside the point really. You should all just check out the song, even if you hate me, as it seems I'm getting quite a following like that. -

The Killers
Radiohead replied to juanpe's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
i rest my case. i actually feel in alot of ways matt good and the killers arent too far removed from each other musically. this tool would never admit it though. I don't see your argument. I'd admit it, surely, if it was true. But Matthew Good's first real release was originally an independant release that got famous on its own merits. Also, Matthew Good afterwards proved that he could continue to deliver with Underdogs and subsequent releases. Other bands that started without so much success have gone on to become some of the greatest successes. I'll use Radiohead as an example because I'm familiar with them. But critics continued to question whether they had what it took to really be a serious band up until the release of OK Computer, their 3rd major release. Whereas the Killers have released all of 1 album, and have been given this world wide exposure for songs that are none-too-special, and in the case of "Somebody Told Me" downright annoying. They walk on the scene and suddenly they're all that and they're given grammys and world tours. For a band that's mediocre at best and not proven itself, they're undeserving of this treatment. Of course they're not the only band like this I have a problem with, Franz Ferdinand is equally horrid, need I also mention Jet? Not until these bands earn their stripes will I give them much of a chance, and I have to say my first impressions of both have been negative from what I've heard on the radio even before I knew who they were. Sure, they're "fun" I guess you could argue, but so are many other bands, if I want to listen to a fun band there's plenty, I prefer The Refreshments, it's a super-saturated market. They hardly deserve their place because they're "fun". In reality they're simply manufactured pop stars that had the luck of being picked up by a major label and given the degree of promotion that you need for everyone to hear you. There are far more deserving bands out there that have been plugging away for far longer that deserve the exposure. I'm not telling you what to like, as you've all lambasted me for, I'm giving my opinion, and my opinion is that you're all followers of corporate propoganda, and I'm sure you truly believe they're a great band. However, if you looked around a little, which I suggest you do, there are far better bands out there whose concerts cost far less to attend because they havn't yet hit the big-time - and I dearly hope most of the bands I like do, since they've earned their stripes and deserve it for the work and material they've created. Sure I don't like the Killers, that's not secret, but only because there's so many better bands out there. You can't release 11 tracks and expect worldwide adulation, at least I hope you can't, its sad that a band can get so much from so little when others do it so much better and so much more yet get so much less credit. -

You're all sheep. Slaves to the corporate promotion machine that tells you to like this band. That.. and "Somebody told me" is the most annoying song I've ever heard and it makes me want to puke. So yeah, sheep. -
So none of you have heard of VNV Nation? They've only realeased 8 or more albums and EPs since the mid 90s, as well as numerous singles. They're Techno Rock, which is apparently supposed to be called "electro" but unlike others of similar genre, they don't suck. Anyone who doesn't like the song "Epicentre" has something wrong with them. Anyway, they're out of Toronto, and the main guy was originally from England, so it's got a bit of a Europeany feel. There's only 2 members of the group, one that drums, and one that does everything else. I can't believe that none of you have heard of them. Also, VNV stands for Victory Not Vengence Grrr..

Rise Against
Radiohead replied to Spritzup's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
I love them. But I hope they don't sell out.... I heard a song of theirs on the radio station that I hate for playing Nickelback. So it sounds like they're beginning to. They're awesome live, I recommend. Edit: Their 2nd album Revolutions Per Minute is just as good if not better than their latest. Their first album, The Unravelling, not so much. -

The Nihilist Spasm Band They're the best ever seriously Go check them out now http://chrw.usc.uwo.ca/mp3/1996/The%20Nihi...n/nihilist1.htm Right there all their songs are awesome. Don't make me start a new thread for just them. "John Boyle............kazoo / thumb piano or drums John Clement............guitar or drums Bill Exley...............vocals and noise Murray Favro............guitar Hugh McIntyre..............bass Art Pratten ...........Pratt-a-various" Kazoo & Thumb piano, and I don't even know what a Pratt-a-various is, can't go wrong with a band that has one member just playing "noise" now can you? Such a solid line-up.
