Giant for me. BM was the first of his albums I really got into. But Man of Action is a very close second. The cheerleaders are what tip the scales in Giant's favour.

Five times for me. All post-MGB concerts, too. Avalanche Tour, 2003: Congress Centre, Ottawa Civic Centre, Ottawa Algonquin College, Ottawa (Civic Centre and Algonquin in the same week) Put Out Your Lights Tour, 2004: York University, Toronto Kool Haus, Toronto I'm not good with dates.

One that hasn't been mentioned and really does it for me is "My Life as a Circus Clown." Damn, that song cheers me up.

My personal favorite film is Blade Runner. The Director's Cut, of course. So beautiful, and so sad. (Hence why I love the bored picture.)

I went to see it just after Christmas. It was pretty good, I thought, and there were some really nice parts. Lots of coincidences and complex explanations, though. It was fun.

I randomly met him when he was here for a free show at York University. I didn't intend to meet him at all. I was near the common, where the stage was set up for the night's concert, and I wanted to know when Matt's set started, as I had a class that evening. So I figured I'd go ask one of the staffers. But as I was talking to a security guard who told me when he would come on stage, Matt ended up just walking by. I guess I did a double take, cause he looked at me and said hello. We talked for about a minute, basically about how his political views (both on the latest album and in the blog) mean that he has to put up with flak from narrow-minded people. He said that basically he'd just keep on doing what he's doing, and I told him I'd keep on listening. He was a pretty laid-back kind of guy, and nice to talk with. I didn't shake his hand or get him to sign anything, but just talking to someone whose work means so much to me, and whom I respect meant a lot to me.

For all its faults (ie flimsy sets) I like Doctor Who the best. Apparently they got the rights to use the Daleks in the new series. But I hope those xenophobic pepperpots don't make an appearance until later on. And it better not suck as much as the TV movie did (even though Paul McGann was awesome, he couldn't save it).

This is sort of related: it sounds to me as if Matthew Good ripped himself off. Listen to the opening riffs of 'Omissions of the Omen' and 'North American for Life.' Same riff, but transposed into a different key and sped up, it sounds like.

Maverick, it doesn't matter if you're serious or not. The fact is, this forum isn't your own personal playground to be used however you wish to satiate your "sick sense of humour." This is a community made up of people who deserve a little more respect. Why should you have a joke at everyone else's expense? EDIT: Now can we please get back on topic for good? I know I happened to like this thread before all this crap started.

If you mean the fact that there is orchestration or string accompaniment of some sort on most of the songs, then I think I agree. It's become a trend these days for rock groups to add strings (most often unneccessarily) to their songs, and that was the one thing that I didn't really like about Avalanche, and is why it's not one of my favorites (I still think it's a good album, but not the best). That's why I love WLRRR so much - very stripped-down production, especially compared to Avalanche.

Wow, this totally got off-topic - oops. Well, what do people think of Everything is Automatic and 23? Chance? A ripoff? Or a case of George Harrison-esque "unconscious plagiarism?"

Axiom: Just because you have a computer and an internet connection, that doesn't mean you're automatically right. I'm sure that these days Mr. Good himself could attest to that.

I love how you're making an issue out of something that is really subjective. If everyone loved Matthew Good, it would be a boring world. Same if everyone loved Jimmy Eat World. What's the big deal?

Don't worry. I'm sure we can find a Jimmy Eat World fan who has heard of Matt Good (sorry, couldn't resist) and who hates him. Then you two could fight to the death. Hell... Fuck the idea of an acoustic tour, I'd pay to see that. ;)

I liked Futures. I found it darker than a lot of their earlier stuff, which scores points with me, plus it seems to have some distinct drug undertones. B) Goldwave? Neva! Adobe Audition is teh roxor!!!111one~ ;)

Yeah, I noticed that too. Same key signature, same opening riff, but 23 is in a slower tempo and goes off on a totally different chord progression. Here's an mp3 sample with the two riffs. Damn. I realize we've all been doing this, myself included, but we're all going on about what old songs we'd like to hear (either in a new arrangement or not). Which is fine, but that shouldn't be all we care about. I mean, what about the new stuff? Of the three that have been made available to download, I've only heard Agoraphobe, but if that is any indication of what kind of new material would be featured on any possible acoustic show (and there would have to be new material to justify a tour), I would love to go to a show like that. Another brain cell in my head just kicked into action and I have another thought: Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps (tour and album) was half-acoustic, half-electric (with band). It even featured a set piece that had separate acoustic and full-band electric renditions. Now that would be a cool kind of concert or album.

Really? Now that you mention it, I guess that kinda makes sense. I know I liked the longer version. The only part of it that didn't work as well, I think, was the extended intro. Anyway, some of the expanded live renditions of some songs (like Blue Skies or Giant) have made me wonder what it would be like if that desire for lengthy works carries over into the next album.

God, this topic is making me lose my faith in humanity. I can't choose. They're all awful. (Although "Yeah" is hilarious because you get to hear Lil' Jon randomly shout "Yeeeaayyyaahh!!" and "Ookaaaayyyy!!")

Audio of Being b-sides? Damn. I'm there. I remember when Taylor did an article about AOB on runningforhome.net before it came out, and he said that Pony Boy should definitely have been on the album. I've wanted to hear that song in particular ever since.

Man, when I heard that here in Toronto (yeah, I was at that show), I thought it was absolutely incredible. It just got into this sort of almost space-rock vibe, and kind of reminded me of pre-Dark Side of the Moon Pink Floyd, with its experimental feel. It was beautiful.

What about doing it in the style of U2's Best Of collections, which come in two versions: one with the singles and hits, and the other which includes a bonus disc of b-sides, for the hardcore fans and whatnot. It would be great to have in CD quality some of the great tracks that up until this point have only been available as mp3s (fair quality at best) or streaming audio (rather crappy quality).

I loved it when I first heard Can't Get Shot in the Back in concert. A lot of people didn't know what to make of it, but, man, it was awesome. That one definitely gets my vote.
