It's a paraphrase of a common expression: "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions." I think. EDIT: I agree with the original expression, but not with the title of this thread. If the latter was true, what would be the point of trying?

Strangely enough, I'm listening to that album right now. Currently on "Have a Cigar." Wish You Were Here is an awesome album, definitely one of Floyd's best.

Jimi Hendrix - Jam Back at the House

Ahhh! I've wanted to see that movie for quite some time. Ever since I saw "Network" on TVOntario's Saturday Night at the Movies, actually - they had an interview section about both "Network" and "Being There" (there is no formal connection between both films, but both deal with popular media and communication, particularly television). EDIT: Oh yeah, and my sig is a famous quote from "Network."

The first time I heard "It's Been a While Since I was Your Man" live in concert back August 2003. It must've been love. ;) I would have said the time when I met Matthew Good, but I only talked with him for a minute - it's hard to have a really meaningful conversation in such a short time. It would be so interesting to discuss issues with that guy.

I became a fan of MGB in the summer of 2001. A little late, I guess, but whatever. I liked the music, and the more I explored it, the more I identified. Listening to MGB was a really personal experience for me. With the solo career came changes. It took a while, but by the beginning of the White Light era (which I argue began when Matt started playing some of the new songs in the summer of 2003), I started to develop new respect for Matthew Good. Beforehand, I liked his music, but I didn't know shit about the guy. He was just some celebrity, and I wasn't into that. Eventually, his blog came around, and I started to realize that here was someone who cared so much about the world, and was sharing his thoughts about important issues with whoever cared to read them. It was only today that I realized that while I was a fan of this guy (musically) for years, it was only just recently that I actually respected him - and basically because of the mblog and WLRRR. It was so enlightening just to read and listen to what he had to say - cause he's never had so much to say that's really important as he does now. Which is why I hope that we'll see and hear more from him - despite recent events.

Derek and the Dominos - Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out The entire Layla album is awesome. Eric Clapton and Duane Allman on guitar? Cream-your-jeans awesome (no pun intended, honestly).

I'm definitely leaning towards Neil Young. Even over Dylan and Lennon/McCartney. But "best" is so subjective. Bah.

Thursday (which I happened to be listening to when I just came across this)

I honestly can't choose. The other day, I thought I knew, but I really can't say now.

I absolutely love War to death. Definitely my no. 1 favorite. It's just so consistently good. Joshua Tree is also excellent. Sadly, I haven't listened to Achtung Baby.

Last CD I bought was "Déjà vu" by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Not long before that it was "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" by Derek & the Dominos. I love the classic stuff at the moment.

You know, maybe - contrary to popular perception - Matt is *gasp* a sensitive guy. He's made his own kind of music and spoken his mind honestly. Does anyone actually think he owes us anything? The blog was greatly informative, I think. But there's nothing that says he has to keep on doing it. So I don't think any of us should take this personally.

Matthew Good has always seemed to have a thing for using animals in his lyrics. Think about how many songs have some kind of animal reference. It would take me quite a while to list every one, but I'm sure most of you will get what I'm talking about. Does anyone here remember that whole "Maximum Traitor" story that he was writing a couple of years ago, with the animal society ruled by some megalomaniac tyrant bird? That was very interesting. I wish he had written more. Possibly he was just using the animals as analogous for people, sort of like how Pink Floyd did as a theme in their album Animals. Remember the whole Animals "rip-off" fuss that there was about the idea with the panda and the cover of Loser Anthems? I don't think Matt was exactly taking a page out of Pink Floyd's book, but perhaps he thinks along the same kind of lines.

"Pink Floyd The Wall." That was an uber-messed up movie. But interesting. And it has a song that wasn't on the album! The animation part with the flowers freaked the hell out of me.

Damn. I must see this. For some reason it appeals to my state of mind. A lot.

Running for Home It's on the end of my "sleep" playlist, which I felt like putting on. Next up, probably some Neil Young.
