when i was little i pretended my freezer was a bomb that the bad guys were going to use to blow my house (read: base) up with unless i disarmed it. so i unplugged it and mom and pop weren't pleased. every year on that very day, i get lashings with a freezer door to make sure it never happens again.

your argument is weak. i dont understand why people don't like the COINTELPRO reference. i thought it was clever. you might not like specificity in music, but you could say the same for metaphor, because no, your love is not actually a rose. if you don't like the specificity solely because you can't catch the references (re: your comment about jove and drucilla), you're supposed to look these things up. not everything comes to you at once. even if he addresses bush, the song doesn't lose its relevance once bush isn't the president anymore. what's matt supposed to do? encompass each and every president? not all of them have been as bad as bush. you must hate allen ginsberg.

i really don't care. i'm not religious whatsoever, and i usually end up saying both merry christmas and happy holidays. the christmas holdiay has totally detached itself from actually being about the birth of christ, so i don't understand why the religious right are so botherred by the renaming of things like the christmas tree, or wishing people a non-denominational holiday. it certainly makes sense though why this isn't as much of a problem here in canada: we arent so fucking ethnocentric. edit: props to yam for beating me to the punch.

i've done it once or twice, but usually i have enough sense in me to either type very little or to stop typing before i make the post. my bad habit would be going on msn drunk. i did it a few times toward the beginning of the semester. haven't done it recently. apparently i like to hit on girls on msn while being drunk, but i don't remember much of that.

this should be in the TV related place. and no i dont want them to bring it back because they finished it. there are no unresolved questions in my mind that im dying to see play out. plus i've lost all faith in television (aside from the discovery channel).

what's your favorite christmas song if you've got one and love jesus like i do? i personally like coldplay's cover of "2000 miles" and john lennon's "happy christmas (war is over)" the most. the grinch theme song always puts a smile on my grill too.

i think it might help with dropouts, but i don't think it should be the sole solution in controlling the number of people who drop out of school. also, i think the government should be more concerned as to WHY people are dropping out of school before they force them to go.

yeah and concerning sigur ros, they sing in icelanic and sometimes in an entirely made up language. i have no idea what they're singing about but what i do know is that their music makes me feel incredible. they could be singing about how they lost their cat who was named mittens and it wouldn't make any difference whatsoever to me.

this is a ridiculous discussion. songs have different meanings to different people. you may not find meaning in the music that is in the top 40, but a lot of people certainly do. unfortunately, we live a world where just because you dismiss something, it does not mean it is completely void of meaning for everyone else as well. music today is just as good as music made a decade ago or even a half a century ago. theres nothing different. no difference in talent, no difference in topics. what's being played in the top 40 is still being determinned by big record companies, just as it always has and probably always will. there is no kind of univeral taste that determines whether things are good or bad. if you actually believe in that i feel sorry for you. relevance ≠ meaningfulness, either.
