Hey, there are taxes on alcohol and tobacco, why not fast food? I say we weigh people, and determine their yearly tax rate by the percentage of their body weight made up of fat. I don't even eat fast food, and if I do, it's under such circumstances that I only have 20 minutes to eat something after school before I've got a concert to play in that night, so it won't affect me much.

The problem with term limits is that the leader becomes a sitting duck - he can't get re-elected, so he has no need to try and make the world a better place.

The choice in the election was either Blair, or the party of Margaret Thatcher. So, really, it's like the last election in Canada, re-elect the libearls, or elect the Tories. Nobody wants the Tories in, so they're willing to keep the liberals in power - "better the devil we know" sorta stuff.

Last time I checked, parents don't have the right to deny you adequate medical treatment. I read a story the other day about a 13 year old girl who became pregnant with an 18 year old boyfriend, and her parents forced them to marry - her parents are in charge of her, should that wedding stand? The state she was married in nullified the marriage. I think this girl should get the blood transfusion - whatever her religious beliefs, she was born into them, and I don't feel that at 14 you have the maturity to question your faith and arrive at whatever it is you truly believe. I've been considered "incredibly mature for my age" when I was 14, and I still believed in what I was born in to. What if this girl were, say, 6, and her parents refused to let her have traditional western cancer treatment? I guarantee there would be a media uproar about it.

You're avoiding the point of the argument. My argument was that there is no way why Company A would raise its prices when it is making a tidy profit over Company B. Your previous posts were using the logic that Company A would raise its prices to the point of Company B, for some reason or another.

Huh? Her parents are the ones that introduced her into the religion, why should they get to decide? And if its possible (like you admitted) that she's not really into the whole Jehovah's thing, why should her parents get to decide?

Been trying to read Robert McNamara's In Retrospect as of late, pretty good book on the vietnam war. McNamara was the secretary of defense for the kennedy and johnson administrations. P.S. Nobody ever read Obasan by Joy Kogowa. I had to read it for english, and damn did it suck.
