  1. I agree with both of you. And yeah, I actually really liked Billy's solo album... much moreso than Zeitgeist and Machina anyways.
  2. Very true... it's rumoured he re-tracked everything except the drum parts for Siamese Dream... their best album, in my opinion. Also, I don't think finding similarities between Melon Collie and James' solo album is indicative of his level of contribution. His solo album came after Melon Collie, which was a huge success, so he probably didn't let the apple fall too far from the tree. For all we know, Corgan could have influenced his solo album. James' Melon Collie track is easily the albums weakest (though some of his b-sides are pretty sweet). And D'Arcy... she was the token girl bass player that stood quietly and did as she was told.
  3. Yeah... I think a lot of bands missed the point of this and just used it as their time to shine. Linkin Park was fucking promoting their new album like crazy during their set in Tokyo. I also thought it was funny that two seperate groups did duets of "Gimme Shelter" and another two seperate groups played "Mercy Mercy Me". Whatever... overall it sucked.
  4. I believe it's the sound of them rewinding the sample and playing it again. The first sample "Weird here is normal" sounds oddly familiar, but it may just be another recording Matt did with a homeless person. The others... if I had to guess I'd say they're his ex-wife. Contrasting Love and Hate... the inability to say Love because it's "a strong word", yet she has no problem saying "I Hate You". The "Try again" thing is from a payphone.
  5. I wasn't really making a point about Matt selling out, it's just funny that the songs you chose to be the most interesting are those which follow the same old verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus shit that's been recycled umteen times before. Whether they realize it or not, people respond very well to songs which follow this pattern and contain catchy refrains ("Everybody get on the floor tonight, Aright!", "Straight baaaaaaaaaaaaack, where weeee beeeeelong", etc.) And it's interesting to note that many on this board have already predicted I'm A Window and The Devil's In Your Details as possibilities for future singles. If you wanna talk about stock Matt Good (although, I'm not sure I agree such a thing exists) what seperates I'm A Window from Hello Time Bomb or Oh Be Joyful? Ultimately, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Mine is that it's the Champions of Nothings, A Single Explosions, 99% Of Us Is Failures, The Boy Come Homes, etc. that really provide the meat for this album
  6. I wasn't implying that they did.
  7. I couldn't disagree more. I doubt that he did, but if there were any songs added to Hospital Music at the request of the record label because of a lack of single-worthy material, it'd be those three. To me they would be the epitomy of "stock Matt Good melodies", if there is such a thing. That's not to say I don't think those songs are amazing... but they don't seem to hold a candle to the other stuff on the album.
  8. To me it's his best solo release. I like this record better than White Light Rock & Roll Review but for some reason it has made me appreciate that record a lot more than I did when it first came out. Funny enough it's the three songs he added to WLR&RR that make it less memorable for me.
  9. Haha true on both counts. Though I doubt I would have heard of Sonic Youth had it not been for their major label distribution. Although, Lollapalooza helped them quite a bit... and that was Perry Ferrell's deal.
  10. Ex-Pats Of The Blue Mountain Symphony Orchestra. That, or the long forgotten 4 Minute Mile, which I believe gave birth to Ex-Pats.
  11. During their biggest years they were signed to a major label.
  12. Me too. I'm going to buy a few copies when it's out... I just need something to make it through the day.
  13. I love "I Am Not Safer Than A Bank"... so far the only track I don't immediately love is Girl Wedged Under The Front of a Firebird.
  14. I think there will be a hidden track on the actual album. Tidal Wave would be a good choice, methinks.
  15. I wasn't fond at all of Metal Airplanes on the bootlegs that have been floating around... but on the album it's definately a classic.
  16. There are many definitions for indie. Traditionally it's short for independent, obviously... so in that sense I suppose Radiohead isn't (or wasn't rather...they're unsigned at the moment) very independent. But I think the indie rock most people are talking about here is the type of music that encorporates that low-fi, barebones sound that came about from underfunded music projects. In that sense I think Radiohead as a few songs that might fit that catagory, but yeah, I wouldn't go as far as to label them an indie band. Indie and Emo are two terms that get thrown around pretty often without anyone really explaining what they mean by them. Matt Good could be either-or, or both, or none at all given the definitions I've heard.
  17. http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=64...tostream&size=l Note the new songs written on the left. We've heard the demo for "If I Was A Tidal Wave", and he mentioned writing "Keira-Anne" when he was with Dale Jr. down south. It's great to see that new material keeps being churned out.
  18. This is funny. So before Radiohead there was no such thing as Indie rock?
  19. I can't believe I'm defending these bands but... if they gave a shit what most people thought of their music I do't think they would be around. That's true of most bands I think. The people who hate Matthew Good heavily outnumber those who like him. And I think it's easy to stereotype his fanbase as well; it may not be 14 year old girls, but...
  20. Given that the subject matter is much MUCH more personal on this record... wouldn't it make sense for Matt to put himself on the cover? I love it.
  21. Houston we have an album cover. www.matthewgood.org
  22. I think you might be right... because most people don't have amazing cameras or know how to use them. It's also a pretty tricky song to do because the music and the lyrics contrast quite a bit.
  23. Matt seems to have very high standards when it comes to these things (and understandably so) but I think it's going to be hard to come up with something to his liking.
  24. I think the bootlegs are something you move into once you already appreciate Matt's music. Quite frankly, to anyone who's not already into Matt Good, it's gonna sound like complete shit.
