    AC Tour Info

Excited to have the full tour announced and see what the gaps were from the shows that were discovered earlier this summer. Even though I'm sticking to shows in the capital region I feel pretty fortunate that there are 10 stops in Alberta for this tour. I have a question about the March 20 Edmonton show and the venue. Since the tour announcement I've noticed references to another venue (Myer Horowitz - seated venue) as opposed to the one where the show is happening (Starlite Room - GA). I've attached a few images to show this discrepancy. Was there a last minute venue change for Edmonton or simply placeholder text used? I realize the logistics of planning a West > East > West Canadian tour with 35 shows can pose a few headaches when trying to determine where to play and when and maybe this is a peek behind the curtain on what may be involved in that process. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the tour and all the excitement that comes with it.
  2. Shows announced on MG's website: http://www.matthewgood.org/shows/. 35 shows starts in the West, head East and then return West to finish the tour off about two months later - wow! 3. Here you go, show announcement for Campbell River! MG will play Monday February 4 at the Tidemark Theater. Ticket cost is $43 (+applicable taxes and fees) and they go on sale Friday, September 21 at 10AM (assume PST?). Here is the page with the show announcement, which also has some potential artwork for the tour: http://tidemarktheatre.com/event/matthew-good-2/.
  4. I saw their Edmonton show last night (final stop on the North American tour). I've never seen the Pumpkins live before and a 30+ song set that lasted for over 3 hours is quite the introduction! I may not have appreciated some of the songs played but it was a fun show and I definitely got my monies worth. I recorded the show and if anyone is interested you can find the full concert on Dimeadozen and also have a song sample below. 5. Tickets for February 15 (Arden Theatre in St. Albert) went on sale this morning. They used the "find seats for me" method which meant a lot of release/search again cycles, searching on multiple devices, etc. until I found something I liked. I prefer the "choose your seat" method but all of the Arden Theatre shows for the 2018-19 season went on sale today so they may have used this approach until the initial surge is over. I was hoping for a seat lower down (15 rows in total in the venue) but they were too close to the edge and not in the middle. In the end I found seats in the back row, which if I can't be on a balcony is probably the next best place to capture the show. We'll see what the 2019 announcement looks like but I'm pretty content with how this one week looks: Friday February 15 - St. Albert Wednesday February 20 - Camrose Friday February 22 - Fort Saskatchewan Camrose appears to be 2/3 full (back three rows on the main and some rows in balcony) and Fort Saskatchewan is 3/4 full (main is mostly occupied and only seats remain in the balcony). Curious to see is St. Albert will sell faster because it's had more of a formal announcement than the other two. EDIT: Two hours after they went on-sale there are only EIGHT tickets left for St. Albert...damn!
  6. Found some more information on the February 15 Arden Theatre (St. Albert) show... Their 2018-2019 brochure is available here (https://stalbert.ca/uploads/PDF-infosheets/Arden-SeasonBrochure-2018-19-FINAL-WEB.pdf, page 28) and does confirm what NonPopulus shared earlier, so good news! The 2018-2019 season won't be formally announced until July 18 and don't imagine the Arden Theatre will show anything until that time. According to the brochure tickets are $40 and will go on sale Monday August 10 at 10AM. The good news with a long wait for the on sale date is that other Edmonton area shows may be uncovered by then and give us a better idea of how that time between St. Albert > Camrose > Ft. Saskatchewan is going to be used.
  7. What an awesome find! I have been refreshing all Arden Theatre sites/social media I could find in hopes of learning more about the February date and you find it through a marketing source. I wonder then if their June 6 tweet about their final artist being "a biggie" is referring to MG as well. With no other information on the show I expect this concert won't have specifics until the Arden Theatre posts their 2018-2019 performance series on July 18. I can't really say no to going to this show but hope we learn what may appear in the few day gap between St. Albert and Camrose.
  8. Daaang, how did you find this one? I’m seeing nothing on their website, Twitter, etc. Do you have any details or have an inside source? I wonder if it’ll be announced in a few weeks as part of their 2018-2019 series, which is being revealed July 18.
  9. In addition to a vague "matthew good 2019" search I have been looking in on Memorial Center (Red Deer) and Myer Horowitz (Edmonton, University) for performances but nothing yet. I'm sure there are other venues he could play in Edmonton (ie: Jubilee, Winspear) but with the other Alberta venues being ~500 seats I feel like a smaller setting like Horowitz would be comparable.
  10. Agreed, it kind of feels like we're playing a game to see when and where the next show will be. It helps that we know there is a game happening and are on the look out for announcements. If I wasn't here every day and didn't see any announcement on the official site or Twitter I'd be pretty choked to find out that the nearest show to me went on sale a month and seats may be limited. I'm not sure how you found the Airdrie show but my Google-fu still doesn't pull it up. I won't be travelling to Airdrie but there is a week between that date and Camrose so perhaps something in the mountains is possible? If there is one there I'd strongly consider it, but as it is I'm happy with two acoustic shows next year. Checking back over the thread I think this is accurate of what's been announced so far. There isn't a lot of time to stop in Saskatchewan or Manitoba between February 22 and 28, but certainly possible. February 10: Lake Country, BC February 13: Airdrie, Alberta February 20: Camrose, Alberta February 22: Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta February 28, Brampton, Ontario March 3: North Bay, Ontario March 7: Brantford, Ontario March 8: Milton, Ontario March 9: Richmond Hill, Ontario
  11. Just saw this in a 'matthew good 2019' search. Tickets go on sale June 18 *. Fort Saskatchewan and Camrose are two odd places to play and I'm very curious to see what the rest of the Alberta tour looks like or if it'll stick to these fringe markets. Regardless, I'll look to get tickets for this show too. * confirmed: the 'on sale soon' link for the MG show says that they will go on sale Monday June 18 at 9AM.
  12. Add another solo acoustic date for 2019, this one in Camrose (AB): Wednesday February 20 2019 at 7:30 PM. Tickets are available at http://camroselive.ca/ and are $45 each. Here is a photo of the ad...
  13. Editing from both March 27 sets is completed. Head over to The Lounge for your MP3 and FLAC links, and if you're just curious what the sound was like here are a few song samples from both bands: Matthew Good - Bad Guys Win: https://soundcloud.com/sean-gursky/matthew-good-bad-guys-win-march-27-2018 Our Lady Peace - Clumsy: https://soundcloud.com/sean-gursky/our-lady-peace-clumsy-march-27-2018
  14. OLP started their set 15 minutes early and played for 1h21m - which seems to be in line with show lengths from other cities.
  15. Just came back from the March 27/Edmonton #2 show...man, what a rollercoaster of emotions. What I write or critique about the show is secondary to hoping that Matt feels better. He has persevered through a lot (before and during) this tour so my main wish is that he makes a full recovery and can laugh about it later. I appreciate him trying to go on and perform, that's dedication that we all know and love Matt for. Seeing Matt collapse was scary business. It's no exaggeration that MG is my favorite artist and watching him fall to the stage followed by the minutes of silence and confusion was terrifying. The atmosphere in the room changed instantly and everyone was concerned. Raine coming out a few minutes later to give an update allowed everyone to have a collective exhale, and it was like we were given permission to continue with the night. During the OLP set I felt guilty for sticking around and enjoying the music, it just didn't feel right. Raine made a mention to it at the start that it was a challenge to proceed. He had everyone participate in a "we love you Matt" message to Matt and then OLP tore through their set. They rocked and had the venue in a frenzy. The showmanship of Raine is impressive and I feel like I watched something special tonight. At the end of the show Raine said "you guys turned what could have been a bummer of a night in to an amazing experience" and that's the only way to sum it up. I wasn't sold on the MG/OLP tour and that was misplaced. This is a double headliner that Canadians will talk about years from now. I recorded both sets and I will share them later on Wednesday after I do EQ and track splitting. I am sharing the MG performance hesitantly as I feel like I'm invading on a private and serious moment. Knowing that Matt is feeling better helps but I still feel awkward about it. Listening back to the band slowly stop performing "Alert Status Red" gives me goosebumps. The band is rocking out and a few seconds later it's silence in the venue, it's eery stuff.
  16. Thanks to this thread I saw that Big Wreck was touring for their "In Loving Memory Of..." album and that concert was last night. This is the first of two shows they are playing in Edmonton and this was a sold out performance too. Here are some links to the full concert (Dimeadozen) and song sample (SounCloud): Dimeadozen: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=615047 SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/sean-gursky/big-wreck-the-oaf-february-24-2018
  17. Back to back posts because I've had a pretty good week. Saw Rural Alberta Advantage for the first time last night (November 30) and they surpassed my expectations. I've been a casual fan of them for a while but 2017 is when I went deep in to RAA and jumped at the chance to see them live. I won't miss any of their future Edmonton stops because the band played with high energy and the crowd did a fantastic job singing along back. I'm surprised these guys aren't more noticeable on the music scene but they are doing a great job and hope they keep putting out music and going on tour. Just like last week, if anyone is interested in the RAA set you can get the full concert at Dime or listen to a single song (Frank AB) on Soundcloud. Dimeadozen: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=607449 SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/sean-gursky/the-rural-alberta-advantage-frank-ab-november-30-2017
  18. Went to Death From Above in Edmonton last night (November 23). Haven't seen the guys live since their 2005 (ish?) tour and they were still able to put on a blazing set. They did a decent mix of new and old and the hardly took any breaks during their 90 minute set. I'll be at the same venue next week for Rural Alberta Advantage which I'm pretty excited for (never seen them live before). If anyone is interested in the DFA set you can get the full concert at Dime or listen to a single song on Soundcloud. 19. ...maybe! It just happens that the balcony is great for acoustics and sight lines, so it's a win-win. As it is Center Section / Row A in the Upper Balcony of the Jubilee Auditorium may be my most frequented recording location (just don't tell the staff). At shows I notice more talkers during opening acts compared to the headliners so it will be interesting to see (hear?) how that changes with a co-headlining tour. I told PlasticSoldier offline that my wish for the show would be to have both artists play their latest album front to back (assuming OLP has Somethingness Vol 2 released by then). Each set may alienate a portion of the audience but if these are the only cross Canada dates for each group then maybe the shows could focus on new material and not all singles? Or, like Moonlight_Graham just wrote, this will appeal to casual fans who remember the days of Chart Attack and videos on MuchMusic. I can say this honestly, unlike past tours I have no idea what will be played. There is no guarantee that new material will be in the forefront, so maybe a bit of Something Like a Storm will be played, or it could just be a singles/greatest hit set, and not knowing is a little exciting.
  20. Bought tickets to the second Edmonton show (Tuesday March 27). I got my typical seat at that venue, upper balcony and in the middle section of seats. Like others here I'm curious to know how this co-headline tour will play out and what kind of surprises may come our way. An added bonus is that the tour is going East to West so maybe there will be some benefit to being at the tail end of a tour for once.
  21. Huh! Nice find. This one comment caught my eye and echos my thoughts exactly: Looks like we will have an interesting announcement later this month.
  22. I rarely pop in to threads outside of the MG section but I'm glad I did because I had NO idea that an In Loving Memory Of 20th Anniversary Tour was in the works. I typically miss local concert announcements and thought for sure this was already onsale and sold out but am pleasantly surprised to see that neither has happened and I can make an effort to get to this. Count me going to one of the Edmonton dates!

    New Album 2017

Just finished my first listen and I'm amazed at how solid it is front to back. I avoided listening to Bad Guys Win or Decades a lot over the last few months as I wanted to keep everything fresh and each song was like a surprise. This album will be repeated a lot in the weeks ahead to appreciate the nuances and unpack some of the heavier songs. I found myself bobbing my head along to every song or performing air drums so that's a good sign I enjoyed this a lot. I feel spoiled as a fan that MG can continue to release music and still surprise us time and time again. The year started with hearing Running For Home live and it ends with Bullets in a Briefcase, that's pretty special.
  24. Time to share my Underdogs story. This album started it all for me. When I saw the video for Everything is Automatic on MuchMusic I recorded it to VHS and watched it over and over. I showed the video to my friend and we became MGB fans for life that day. It wasn't until January or February 1998 when I bought the CD and I listened to it on repeat while on a family vacation. To me the album was unlike anything I had heard before and stands as my favorite MG/B album over the years because of that imprint it left on me. I have enjoyed hearing MG's music evolve over the years but when Deep Six starts with that loud and aggressive electric guitar I go in to my happy place. Checked my ticket stubs to confirm, there would have been one more but it was an 18+ show and was too young :(. July 8, 1998 - Edgefest (MGB was on the side stage, they played My Out of Style is Coming Back and the only time I saw Geoff play) July 11, 1999 - Edgefest (MGB was on the main stage, Giant and Time Bomb were played from Beautiful Midnight) August 17, 1999 - Pepsi Taste Tour (exclusive win to get in concert where nearly half of Beautiful Midnight was played, before 2017 this was the only time I heard I Miss New Wave, full band signed the ticket stub and guitar pick from MG) December 5, 1999 - On tour with Moist, same show that PlasticSoldier was at above :) (ticket stub signed by Dave)

    New Album 2017

Sort of related, but there was a Vox video essay on that recently. Pop vs. rock may not apply but it was information and went in to the history of how this originally happened.
