Ta da! [hide_me]http://seagurs.com/blog/download/mg_edmonton_silent_army.mp3[/hide_me] This is from last night. It's a 3.5MB/160KB CBR MP3. I just cut it out from my recording. It will be a few days before the whole show is available but it is there. Unfortunately the September 23/Sunday (Edmonton) show was not recorded even though I thought I was rolling tape. Oh well, sometimes that's how it goes.

Good find. Done and done.

Second Matthew Good show in Edmonton (September 24) is on sale right now. I was able to get balcony, row AA for both shows which will be ideal for recording.
-
Nah, it's alright if my email address is on there. If I get contacted by the person who picked up the recording I can always direct them here.

Yeah, the beeping was from the video tapers camera who sat beside me. I didn't realize it was that loud until I heard the recording. A little late to this thread but wanted to say thanks for using my recording in this Guerrilla-style promotion tactic. Hopefully it works out and can turn someone onto MG's music. Or I may get some weird sexual proposition over email, either way, we all win.

Well it was a pretty basic lyric, listening to a few recordings here is what I hear: He didn't play it at the 2003 Vancouver show; I have it appearing on the following recordings: 2002-05-19 (Cayuga) 2002-09-13 (London) 2002-09-14 (Halifax) 2003-04-11 (Toronto) 2003-07-16 (St. Catherines) 2003-07-19 (Sarnia) Of those the April 11/2003 one is the best sounding, so go to it here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=985D36X1 (8.4MB). This is also a great song because just as the song starts rocking Matt yells "Rich" into the mic and continues to give it. I'm not sure why, but that one moment stands out as a favorite of MG recordings.

During the 2003 Avalanche tour he would add a little something on Under The Influence. I can't recall word for word, but I believe it started off with "When my baby's with me, I don't want nothing" or such. I don't have the recording at my work computer so I can't get the exact lyric/sample up. I think the 2003 Vancouver show has it though.

As the person responsible for getting the July/Klondike Days DVD out there I can agree with you about the quality not being that great. It was sourced from a VHS camera. But for being the first complete MG show available you can take what you get. Although there are three DV cam sourced concerts available/coming up. October 30/05 has been released (but not yet torrented), October 31/05 is nearing the final stages of editing and March 23/06 will be worked on soon after that. Great footage mixed with edited audio, they are really quite the production. So there are some treats coming your way soon.

Fantastic news, glad that the Buffalo was recorded again. Good luck in Barrie.

After all of the problems getting this video together (not using the extras, a lot of 'hurry up and wait') it was neat to see how some of the time was spent.

Pintowax and Sour were doing their thing on the Ontario dates. With Matt being ill and missing shows, not sure how that will have affected Pintowax's 8-show travels, but I would imagine they would hit the majority of the dates. As for myself, the Edmonton recording turned out great and is in the hands of 5ilent getting EQ'd and will be available shortly. I posted a sample of Fated in the merged tour thread, but you can still get it here.

He wasn't looking the best in Edmonton, he avoided talking to us at the bus afterwards. The guy just can't get on the road without picking something up. Unfortunately it sounds like this is quite serious compared to his recent tour illnesses.

Listening back to some shows from the 2003 Avalanche tour I have to say that "Pledge of Allegiance" should be on that list. It is a slow building song that fit everything perfectly. I forgot how great it was of an opener until I took a trip down memory lane. Although, with that said, I voted for "Put Out Your Lights" because the 'flip a coin' opening on the Revue tour was very high energy and was all about the rock.

City And Colour
gursky replied to Dan #2's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
Hey all, I recorded the City and Colour show in Edmonton yesterday (March 24) and am currently torrenting it over at Dimeadozen. You have to sign up with them to download the torrent, but it's a pretty quick process. Sometimes they reach the 100,000 max user limit, and if that is the case just check back in an hour or two as the constantly remove old/dead accounts. The show was at the same venue Matthew Good was at the night before so the quality is really good. Check it out at: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=88459 -
For those who are asking about the Calgary Bootleg thread, it was moved. Those with 60+ posts (non-spam) are promoted to NF Fanatics and then gain access to that forum (where the thread was moved to). Although, as I'm still under 60 posts that could be way off; but it was in the FAQ I read the other day about it as I was having the same problem. At the venue in Edmonton I had a rail/ledge in front of me so that is where I rested my mics. I had my batter box and recording device below between my feet. So it was pretty discreet, but the mics were 'in the open'. Although when the lights went down you couldn't see anything. It's not like I set up a 7' t-bar and openly recorded, it was stealthed; but without the stress of having others ruin your recording.

Right now there is a hardware configuration issue that has brought the Hub down. It's possible someone else may take over hosting it, but if not then there will be some downtime.

Here is a sample of the recording I got from the March 23rd Edmonton show. This has been unedited and is in MP3 (;)) but will give you all a feel for what an edited/lossless version will sound like. I picked Fated because it was one of the strongest performances from last night, and because it's one of Matthew's best written (in my opinion). It's 4MB and you can get it here. No ETA on when the whole concert will be available, it's dependant on 5ilent's schedule, so whenever he gets a chance. And hopefully the video from last night (MiniDVD) won't take too long, we still need to release the 10/31, all in time. Patience is a virtue, right?

After seeing Matthew Good (Band) seventeen times it is difficult for a show to rank number one, but the March 23rd show was a very strong runner for top spot. Fine Art of Falling Apart, Fated, Truffle Pigs and Symbolistic White Walls stole the show for me. Matt was in a great mood (despite still being sick), and very energetic and happy on stage; it was great to see. I am just listening back to the recording now (listening to Advertising On Police Cars) and it sounds great. Very clean, close and solid. It will need some noramlization, but once 5ilent gets his hands on this for some tweaking it should be a fantastic bootleg for you all. EDIT: How can I forget Sort of a Protest Song!? The setlist was fantastic!
-
Tomorrow Edmonton will be covered with audio and video! I can only hope that the setlist is very similar to Lethbridge #1 as it was near (acoustic) perfection! There used to be someone out in Vancouver who did shows (2003 Avalanche Tour was the last one?), but haven't heard any recent material. I know of a Calgary taper but because of his gear the shows are usually overpowered. Maybe he upgraded? It has been a while since we spoke. Other than that the West is wide open. It seems that with each tour you do your own bootlegger marathon. I feel like I am letting Alberta down with only covering the Edmonton dates. If I travelled as far as you will next month I would be able to get all of Alberta and then some...that's determination Joe!
-
Wow, I never thought I would see the day that Indestructible made it back into the setlist. There is no doubt this tour will be amazing, but I am more excited about hearing the same songs done differently. Although the prospect of hearing rarely played songs is certainly interesting as well. Less than a week until I see it all play down in Edmonton!

I will be biased, but I really like the quality of sound I get from the SP-CMC-2 (AT831) microphones. I use a battery box (from JB3) and always get a great sound (unless the acoustics/soundmix of the venue is terrible to begin with). From the loud thrashings of The White Stripes or to an acoustic song from The Arcade Fire, the mics handled it all. I will be using the JB3>SP-SB1>SP-CMC2 configuration for Matthew Good and City And Colour, which will both be acoustic shows and anticipate great results. From what I know the SP microphones are always a good choice and recommended (for stealthing and within that price range) from the experts over at Taperssection. Those Giant Squid's are cool because of how the mics can be placed at 90 degrees, but can't give a personal testimony about them. I have thought of upgrading my mics to something swappable or a little more versatile (CMC-8's), but don't really need to, it's more of an upgrade bug. If you haven't already, I would recommend doing some searching over at Taperssection to get an idea of what would be the best for your device and budget and read some better written reviews about those mics.

Pintowax is getting a lot of the Ontario dates. I am doing the Edmonton show and will most likely have DV of it as well.

Back in the summer of 2001 Copywrite and Treble Charger opened for Matthew Good Band, that was pretty good. Although Wil seriously rocked the place, so I'm going to go with him on the 2004 WLRRR tour. Ladies and Gentleman were a close second, but Wil was something I could have never imagined. His performance on an acoustic blew my mind.
-
One thing I was curious about was Matt's career after the Universal contract was up, specifically touring. I'm not sure how much sponsorship the label gives him to tour but if there was no label support would we still see multiple dates in cities, or even a cross-Canada stops? Sure, indie artists still tour but I'm just wondering if there would be a noticeable difference in the touring before and after the Universal contract is up.

I heard Big City Life on the radio Sunday, and it was on 102.9 (Edmonton). It even had it's own intro for it, rather than having the DJ do it life so some effort went into it. I believe I heard it in the morning, like 8:30AM or so.
