That's right....the riff that some people might hear is simply him hammering-on the d-string in a C chord and the g-string in an F chord (that he plays 133210 with the thumb as the root F). Matt does this a lot in many of his songs, you can hear it all the time.

I just found out that every guitar on the album was acoustic (just ran through Marshall amps)...which is pretty crazy to think about, but when you go back and listen to it, it becomes pretty obvious. Still a great album though.
