  1. Ya Audio on vinyl would look awesome I've envisioned that cover on a vinyl album many times and I think it'll look just fantastic. Would Audio of Being be a triple album? Isn't Avalanche longer and it fit on two? Actually looking at track times, Audio of Being would fit nicely on a double LP, 3 songs per side over four sides fits basically perfect, around 17 mins per side which is pretty standard.
  2. Ha Chad, we think alike! I was already thinking will it be one cover on front one on back? something new entirely? Hmm didn't think about artwork being a hold up, but it's possible. It would be a real shame if all his albums ended up released save for White Light, but I'm guessing a third round is planned. When Matt announced doing this he said he wanted his whole catalog available on vinyl. Well even though some of his newer items got released, they really aren't "available" to most anymore. Also with Matt being so vocally in love with Lights of Endangered Species, I'd be surprised if it wasn't reissued.
  3. Whew was starting to worry about these maybe not seeing the light of day. Absolutely stoaked to have Audio of Being coming that just fantastic. I have an original avalanche but very cool to see that coming out as well and will pick up a copy. Much respect to Matt for differing this so as to keep the uniqueness to the originals! Absolutely thrilled with Loser and loser anthems cause I really wasnt sure if they get a green light. Awesome! Curious about no White Light though? It now is the only MG album to not receive a vinyl release. Perhaps a third run is planned including Vancouver lights and arrows
  4. It's unfortunate Matt plans to not post here anymore because of issues with people contacting him about personal stuff. I'm quite surprised by that, I really thought the majority of the people here would be more respectful than that. Anyways I appreciate him sending his thoughts through Anton just the same. No secret that Matt is very good at what he does and his longevity is testament to that. Also he hits the nail on the head about his fan base being made up of 99% casual fans and a few diehards. For most of these fans it's lets go to one show, hope we hear a few favourites and that will be awesome. Those are the people Matt needs to satisfy to keep his career financially healthy. Lets face it, if he went out there and played anything off of Ghetto or White Light beyond White Walls and Alert and most in the audience would probably think he was debuting a new song. We're very much the fringe here and thats something we need to keep in perspective. I give Matt a great deal of credit though, despite the limitations financially and economically he does strive to hit some of this fringe group of diehards wishlist items and I am grateful that he does care about us lunatics. It's unfortunate I won't be attending a show on this tour due to a number of circumstances listed previously. But hopefully Matt can work things out to do another swing through Canada in the fall or something. As for the acoustic show, since Matt first mentioned it a few years back, I've had money set aside to make sure I can attend if he ever does pull that off, I think it would be an amazing night and rewarding for both Matt and the crowd. No problem whatsoever with a ticket price of $120
  5. Haha seats in the tapers section eh Sean! Tough to say how it will play out, being on Van Isle I typically see the very start or very end. Sometimes it seems at the end of the tour the band might work out an extra song or two in soundcheck, but the downside is, sometimes they are downright exhausted after a couple months on the road. In 2013 the tour ended out here and it seemed like the guys were running on fumes a bit. Last tour it started out here, and I had the good fortune of going to like 11 of the first 12 shows. I noticed as the tour progressed that the band got much tighter and started branching out a bit more. If you listen to my recordings from Victoria compared to say Vancouver or the Alberta shows, Stu is really adding some neat little fills and you can tell he just has the foundations down pat and he is now adding some artistic flare. The jams also got more cohesive as the tour went on. But looking at setlists towards the end of the tour, it seems the band was tiring out. What had been a four song encore every night was reduced to three and at a show or two even down to just two tracks.
  6. Don't let us dampen your excitement. I'm sure the shows will be great all the same. If this tour was coming to Victoria I'd still be going to one show just to check it out. I've yet to be disappointed by an MG show in person, although because of shorter sets and usually more expensive tickets I've ruled off festival shows in the future and this coheadline to me will most likely be in the same vein. At the very least you'll get to hear a couple new songs live I would imagine and maybe an interesting collaboration between the bands. Really hope you enjoy the show!
  7. Why would OLP being on the bill make this more economically viable? Matt plays most of these same venues on his own tours and sells them out or nearly sells thrm out at a ticket price of about $50. He'll still have his own bus band and crew for the most part. Now im sure he'll save some money on some logistical things but how much are tickets to this going to be? Unless theyre over a hundred dollars I can't see Matt making more from this tour than he would on just a regular tour of his own. OLP may be more popular. But its not like their addition has got the band playing in NHL arenas its still yhe same venues he usually plays
  8. Is a two hour show each even possible? Given that most of these venues will have an 11 o'clock curfew? Given a half hour break between sets that means the opener would hit the stage at 630. I really doubt it. Like I said expect 75-90 min sets each
  9. Yeah, I mean for those of you that love both bands I'm sure it will be a great night, and probably there'll be some sort of collaboration song between the two bands which could be neat. Foats, have you ever thought of taking Amtrak to Toronto? it avoids the snow out issues, and I've taken it before from Albany to TO and it was enjoyable and reasonable price wise. Hopefully you can make it out to a show!
  10. Most likely it'll be like other co headlining tours. Equal time, and they rotate who goes on first and who closes. These types of shows are usually nostalgia fests for casual fans wanting to relive the 90's or whatever decade the co headline is from. No one wants to be the band boring the fairweather crowd with a bunch of deep cuts they've never heard. Expect the hits, a few new songs (probably Decades) and maybe a couple lesser known hits. I know I'm being a negative nancy on this, but I have no interest in Co Headlines at all. Thankfully for me the Vancouver and Van Isle area are conspicuously absent, so I'm hoping OLP packs their bags after Abbotsford and Matt with his band already in BC decides to play some headlining shows in early April in Van and possibly Victoria and Nanaimo which are guaranteed sell outs for him.
  11. Nope, there are several different versions including an Australian one. Some come with just two tracks, some came with the video, some came with four tracks. It's a real mash up. But from what I can tell four separate versions exist. I own three of them.
  12. Yup I have this one, kinda a cool thing that most didn't even realize was released, there are so many oddity MG releases out there. I mean even something like the In A World Called Catastrophe single, there is what four different versions of that?
  13. Well I'll wait for details, but pretty disappointed. Not a big OLP fan, but wouldn't mind seeing them, but in my experience twin bills often mean partial sets. Instead of a two hour show, you usually get an 80-90 minute set, and since you're competing head to head with the other band it seems to turn into a greatest hits competition. Hope I'm wrong.
  14. I don't mean this to come across the wrong way, and I know many people are in different states of financial situations, but if Lights is your favourite album is $114 completely cost prohibitive? I mean what was it originally $40 or so I think I paid at the show. I mean it is alot of money, but if it's your favourite album and all, $114 dollars is like skipping going to McDonalds ten times, or skipping a couple nights out to the bar. I dunno I feel like that cost is not insanely prohibitive to the point it would prevent me from buying my favourite album. Avalanche is one of my favourites, and I didn't buy one until like a year ago. I had seen copies sell online for as much as $500 dollars which is a little more cost prohibitive for sure, but I came across one in a record store for $150 and it was a no second thought purchase. I love that album, I can always make another $150, I might not be able to always buy a copy of one of my favourite records, and if I treat it well I could have it the rest of my life, unlike somethings I spend money on which are gone in a flash. If you love the record that much, try and sock away $20 a week or so and in like 6 weeks it would be yours. As for biggest regret, I really regret not going to earlier MG shows. I got into his music in 1998 and just never really thought about going to live shows. I was only 11, but I had gone to a few other concerts at that point. Stupidly, I wouldn't attend a show until 2008. I mean I probably could have seen Beautiful Midnight and Audio of Being era shows, but I certainly could have seen Avalanche era and White Light, plus the original acoustic tours. Some of my favourite bootlegs come from that time frame and I just kick myself for not getting more into Matt's music at that point and going to some of those amazing shows!
  15. Well looks like we'll get a tour announcement in late November, which probably means dates in late January or February. Can't wait, being on the island I'm spoiled but hopefully there are dates close by for some of you who aren't as conveniently located to some of his more regular tour stops.
  16. I heard that if he plays a show consisting solely of the songs written about her that she will appear.

    New Album 2017

I wonder if we will hear B-sides from this album? Prior to the last tour Matt had gone into the studio and laid down seven songs. At that point he said he had recorded about half the album and took a break to tour with the band set to reconvene in studio after the album to presumably record seven more songs. I know I am guessing that the second session included seven songs as it was said roughly half was recorded, but I find it unlikely only two were recorded as well. So did Matt decided to just not record certain songs which he may have demoed. Or did the band record some that Matt then decided to leave by the way side? I was definitely surprised when the tracklisting surfaced with nine songs because I was thinking for sure we'd be looking at 12-14 songs. This isn't a complaint at all, I find shorter albums are often times more focused works, but I'm just curious if other things were recorded.

    New Album 2017

I gotta say that streaming video as an album launch party is absolutely awesome and I so appreciate it. Pretty unique. Plus I love being called seedy by one of my favourite musicians, pretty much what I've spent my life working towards...that is my platinum album. Really loving how these songs are translating live. Am I right in assuming we'll be waiting awhile for a tour? With nothing announced yet, and the fact most of Matt's tours are about 6-8 weeks, I can't see anyone wanting to tour through X-mas so I'm guessing it'll be something for the new year. After talking to the band on the last tour and the comments for Matt, this was my most anticipated album of his since Vancouver and it's living up to that hype. Gotta spend more time with it to really get a good feel for what stands out, really looking forward to doing that.
  19. So this happened last year and now all the files are being digitized. There must be something pertaining to Matthew Good Band in this collection. I really, really wish MUCH would do something like this with their archives, they are totally uninterested in using music related programming anymore, let alone archival stuff. But there is some seriously amazing things they must have that could be so enjoyed by the music fans out there. Sad to think this kind of thing just rots away. Anyways hopefully the EMI archive will have some interesting stuff in there. http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/2m-grant-to-save-massive-music-archive-that-is-falling-off-the-tape-1.3629498
  20. I could be wrong, but wasn't Matt signed to Universal/Darktown for this whole album and recording? Dave Porter mentions not being overly taken by Matt until hearing Gen X Wing from Raygun in the In a Coma booklet. My understanding has always been that he signed the band at that point, re released Ghetto and Raygun on the Darktown label in 1997 and began recording Underdogs with that contract. Again I could be mistaken, but that's how I always thought the timeline went.
  21. All Together is awesome and the In A Coma mix is fantastic. There is definitely three versions of LOTGA I believe the first was on EMI and has the white script writing. These ones are hard to find and I believe it was probably an initial run (500? 1000 cds?) Then the Normal cover with Red lettering was also released on EMI. The third version was the Darktown re release in 1997 after the band signed with Universal. There are two obvious ways to tell the two versions with red letter covers apart both are on back of case. The EMI and Darktown are both labelled as such also the barcodes are in different locations Also the original white script cover actually has slightly different artwork. It's the same image but zoomed out slightly and panned slightly right. because of this the astronauts legs are more visible and a forth astronaut is in frame partially on the right.

    New Album 2017

Matt's had a few early fall releases in the past, but like others have said they are usually announced well before then. I still can't see this not coming out before X-Mas, but the later it goes the stranger it seems from a promotional standpoint. I thought the release info would coincide with the Decades video release because that's a typical way to get some publicity and notice. But the Decades video released nearly two months ago and there isn't any word of when it's album will be available. Kind of seems counterproductive. Let's face it, we're going to know all the details as soon as they're available, but we're not really the market for promotion. It's the casual fans who like Matt's music and buy it, but don't hang on the every detail of his career. Well I'd have to think those peoples ears perked up at the Decades single, but any traction it may have generated would have been forgotten by now two months later in a world that unfortunately has 30 second attention spans and most of them have probably forgot about Matt's new album and they'll be promoting almost from scratch again. Not that I'm complaining personally, we got a tour already this year, a couple new music videos, a new cover song on that Warner disc and the prospect of a live DVD from last tour a new album and a supporting tour all coming up in the near future. That's an explosion of Matt Good! far more than we see in most calendar years. Only thing I wish is we could find out more about back catalog vinyl reissues. The initial albums said more coming in 2016 and we're nearly at the end of 2017 with no word and with so much else in the pipeline I can't see them releasing these now, but damn I soooo want to be able to complete my MG collection on vinyl!
  23. Well there is truth to that, but clearly Matt enjoys playing with these guys alot. And for the record Im a huge fan of how the band has come together cohesively over the last two tours. Some Really great playing by all and they grew tighter as a unit as the tour progressed. Its the age old debate though. Most shows have about 15 songs give or take. Its clear Matt isn't willing to abandon his warhorses so to speak ( and really lets face it, theres what two dozen of us active on this site asking for rarities, so what we represent 2-3% of any audience?) and go to any show, the biggest cheers are still Apparitions, Born Losers, Time Bomb. Load Me Up and Weapon are there almost every show, so thats 1/3rd of your set right there. Usually Matt has leaned heavily on his current album (The Victoria show in 2015 had 10/11 Chaotic Neutral songs in one show!) meaning it wasn't unusual to have 6-8 songs from the new album in a set. So that leaves only a few others songs in any given set and they were usually filled with predictable rarities like Automatic, Alert Status and so forth. That structure leaves a very minimal amount of material to be changed up in the first place. Matt has recently expressed a desire to play less new tracks and more older deep tracks at future shows. So if he dropped it to 4-5 new songs a show, that may free up space for 5 odd balls tracks. But it depends on what he wants to play. If I were to guess I'd think a couple Beautiful Midnight deep tracks, Automatic, Alert Status, Single Explosion and Police Cars will be rotated in and out because the band knows them. In addition things like Champions and I'm a Window and maybe another track or two might find their way in. But other than that, I doubt we'll see much more. Im someone who tried to go to as many shows on a tour as I can. Last tour was 11, usually I average about 5 so of course I'd love to see more variation in the setlist. But I think its unrealistic to think Matt and band would tour with an arsenal of 40+ songs to pull out at will. I think 25 is far more realistic and I think still gives a good amount of variety. I do wish some of the rarities would switch up, like drop Automatic and Alert and play say Indestructable or A Long Way Down or something that hasn't been played in awhile, but I won't complain to much. Years ago I never thought I'd see most of the Beautiful Midnight tracks live, now I've seen them all. It's not like he's not trying to switch things up and pay homage to his career, its just with every new album it gets harder to pay proper respects to all of it and still stick to a 100 minute show.
  24. It's gotta be part logistics as well. Two of the four band members were not on the Arrows tour. Matt has repeatedly said his setlists are limited by the fact his band lives in Toronto and they can only afford so much rehersal time. On the Chaotic Neutral tour (which had three of these members) so much time was obviously devoted to learning that entire album live, its highly unlikely they devoted any time at all to Arrows songs. Then from the last tour, they had to fit in a new member and learn all of Beautiful Midnight. Granted some of the songs were well known, but there were many that had never even been attempted in 15+ years and they came up with new versions of them. Add to the fact they basically recorded an album plus an EP and again I really doubt they had time to rehearse any Arrows songs. And that brings us up to today. I get the feeling that album was a bit rough for Matt because of issues with label and cancelling American tour and all that. Plus as stated it really doesn't have a noticeable hit that becomes a "must play" song. Vancouver gets largely ignored as well except for Last Parade which was a hit for Matt and is recognizeable. Even his casual fans probably wouldn't recognize Arrows songs. Personally I'm ok with those songs not being there, they were toured extensively in 2013, all of them were played live and we even got Live Road versions of every one of them to quench our thirst so to speak. It's only been 4 years, there are tons more songs that have been neglected. If Matt is going to take the time to relearn back catalog songs with his current band, I'd rather he focus on stuff that wasn't essentially just played.
  25. Agreed that there wouldn't be hard feelings but the entire purpose of that Cd is to celebrate and promote Warner Brothers and their fifty years of recording history in Canada. Itd be a little odd if one of the best examples they used to demonstrate their company and their success in Canada would be to issue a cover from a band who never recorded for them and pay royalties to Universal. Itd be like the Vancouver Canucks promoting a Sidney Crosby autograph signing while their own players are standing in the shadows
