  1. So we are two days from the start of the tour in Sidney. Who's excited? what're some songs you are hoping to hear? Who is going to which shows? Once again I'm very fortunate to get to see several shows on this tour including the opener in Sidney. As I did last tour I have plans to record most of the shows I go to, so for those of you who like those recordings, or those unable to attend shows or hear any potential rarities I'll definitely do my part. I gotta admit hearing Matt working on Fearless the other day got me so excited for this tour and I think there will be a few really rare surprises, as well as perhaps a couple live debuts, and who knows what he has planned for cover songs. One of the amazing things of the Beautiful Midnight tour was that it was Beautiful Midnight every night, but at the same time it also meant setlists that changed very very little. The flexibility in sets that Matt has always exhibited on acoustic shows in the past makes me think each night of this tour will be pretty unique and a real treat for those able to attend multiple shows. Hope everyone going out has a great time!
  2. Really cool to see that Matt is pulling from a pretty extensive list for these setlists according to him this is just a portion of the list he labelled as songs he already can do. he also has two other lists of covers and other older songs he plans to rework. judging by that we may be in for some of the most unique and varied setlists we've ever seen on a tour! This definitely ramped my excitement way up, especially since he is already thinking and working on this and the tour is still three months away!
  3. Obviously there is still a few albums that are waiting release/re-release in a third and probably final run. White Light Rock and Roll Review Vancouver Lights of Endangered Species Arrows of Desire These are the studio albums that are not in print and are the most likely to still get released. Obviously WLRRR review is the most sought after as it is now the only studio album to not see a vinyl release. Im not sure where an Arrows release stands as unlike the rest of these reissues that album wasn't recorded on the Universal label. I doubt the two greatest hits albums will see any release although I would love to have Rooms on vinyl. I'd also love to see Massey Hall, but that would probably need to be a four record set and that kind of thing just might not be financially feasible as judging by the two record sets it would probably be priced over $75 making it a limited interest release in a series of records already defined as limited interest. The fact that the first two vinyl series contained all the albums that were in high demand on vinyl worries me that the third series could easily be dropped as the remaining records are definitely not ones considered Matt's most successful from a sales point of view. like many here I am fortunate to have Vancouver Lights and Arrows (although id buy the re-release too) so WLRRR is the only one I am really desperate for, especially since sonically it is probably the MG album most suited for the vinyl format. There was about 18 months between the first and second series and we're only about six months since the last release so based on that I could see a potential fourth quarter release in 2019. Although id love to be wrong and get them sooner.
  4. I was just about to say that I would so much rather have had Hornets there instead of Lesser Men. I figured Matt wasn't totally enamoured with Lesser Men because when he toured lights, he never bothered to play it live, and it was the lead single. I remember seeing him in Duncan on the 2009 tour, and the first song of the encore was Last Parade and Matt made a comment about how he had made the setlist and realized during the show that he hadn't penciled in the lead single of his current record, so he made sure to play it in the encore. So that goes to show he thought not having a lead single for a tour supporting an album in the setlist for all shows was a mistake, but on the very next tour he not only didn't play Lesser Men at every show, he didn't play it at any, so I think he very early on changed his mind about that song and decided to focus on other aspects of the record instead. For the record he regularly played everything else off the album except Extraordinary Fades.
  5. Matt mentioned deciding to do this tour instead of the kind of show he talked about before they may involve a multi night stand in a city and feature a wide cross section of his career. While he may have dropped that concept, I am hopeful that he may use this acoustic tour to play a variety of things from across his career. The full band shows over the last ten years have focused mainly on his current album and then hits from the Matthew Good Band days with a couple solo career hits thrown in. Many records havent seen anything played off of them in years, things like Last of the Ghetto Astronauts, Vancouver and Lights of Endangered Species. I'm hoping the acoustic nature of the shows will allow for varying sets like was common on his 2006-07 tour. Also, since this tour won't happen until February 2019 and that Matt has long been on a cycle of delivering an album every second year, I am wondering if we may get a preview of some new tracks on the tour. Anybody have any setlist wishlist items for this acoustic tour?
  6. Quite a few Islanders on this site. I like the idea of the Sidney show, very very small place, super intimate, that whole show will almost be like a VIP experience.
  7. I love the idea of hitting some smaller venues and playing markets he doesn't usually play. Another thing that is pretty neat is the idea of the there and back again premise for this tour. Here on Vancouver Island, we usually either get the very start of a tour or the very end. In the past I've seen tours where the early shows were rusty and other times where the last shows were obvious the band and Matt were exhausted. On the other end of the scale, sometimes the early shows have a real enthusiasm to them where as sometimes as the tour progresses additional songs are worked on and performed. The way this tour shakes out I'll get to see both the beginning and the end, so I'll get both contrasts. Not to mention instead of a whole bunch of shows in one week and then nothing for a year or two, this way I get a bunch of shows and then six weeks later another show. I think that will make it a totally interesting way to experience this tour compared to the way things have been in the past.
  8. Thanks for the updates guys, nice to see I'll get a show in my hometown on this one, and glad to hear some of the bigger cities will have shows too. Looks like I'll be able to hit up a few shows on this tour.
  9. Hope you are well as well Mr. Good. Thanks for coming back to post and keep us informed as to what the future holds. I am very excited to hear about the plans for an extensive tour, and the leaked dates so far definitely point to a very interesting tour taking you to alot of places and venues you haven't played in a long time. You're 06-07 tours are something of legend among your fans for both the more relaxed setting, hilarious banter and incredible setlists. If these shows are anything like those it will be absolutely incredible. Hoping to see about a half dozen shows this time out! Can't wait for more details.
  10. Ya that's what I was complaining about 95% of the edmonton market thinks only one show is happening so they all tried for st albert some of who im sure are probably closer to other shows they dont even know are happening but actually went on sale two months ago. I still really dont understand why just one show was announced when a third of the tour has leaked/gone on sale. Enough of me being a negative Nancy though. Managed to get tickets to the st albert show after some initial frustration. Sounds like a few of us are going to this one maybe we can meet up before hand or something
  11. What in the actual hell. So nearly about a third of this tour has leaked, and some of those dates have been on sale for over a month. And yet Matt's crew announce just this one show...WTF. The only reason I was in favour of this cloak and dagger approach was that I thought at least it might be easier to get good seats because the majority of fans wouldn't know these shows were going on sale, but then the one show I am for sure going to attend is the only one he officially announces. Now I'm guessing the casual fan in Edmonton won't know about Fort Sask or Camrose so they'll probably think this St. Albert show is a one off and being a small venue could make it difficult to get seats. And we still don't know if he is playing another date in the area during what is a few day gap in the schedule.
  12. Yes his last solo acoustic shows could often last two hours with plenty of banter and 20 plus songs of course many of them were short because without the band there was no jam outs or ling intros/outros. with that said all the acoustic shows hes done since 2006/2007 were usually in the 90 minute range although those were US tours and oddball one offs. The obvious exception to this being the secret show in Vancouver in 2012 where he played about 2.5 hours and had more audience interaction and banter than ive ever seen. Whether he goes that route for this tour remains to be seen. I suspect with small venues in small towns it will be pretty relaxed and low key which tends to be conducive to lengthy shows that are loose with tons of banter
  13. It's tough because these shows are so far out you cant even look at calendar of events for possible venues. For instance I am assuming this tour will have shows in the lower mainland and possibly Vancouver Island before the current starting date in Lake Country on February 10th. So you take a city like Nanaimo which is a possibility being a smaller market and has a theater in the Port Theatre which Matt has played several times over the years. But February 2019 is so far away that the only thing scheduled is one event in the whole month. So I can't even use process of elimination to rule out venues. Closer to the date you could probably look and see a venue like that has no available dates for earlier February and therefore rule out Matt doing a show there, but this far out everything is still too wide open. Matt's instagram is still only discussing the few shows this summer so we could be waiting awhile for an official announcement of these other shows.
  14. The videos from Daniels tapes are all being hosted by our good friend Chad (aka Plasticsoldier) on his excellent Disorientation site. The videos can be streamed there and also are offered for download for those of you who want to have the files on your hard drive. Here is the link, and a big thanks again to Daniel and Chad for their help in getting this material out there for the fans. http://mattgood.plastic-soldier.com/downloads-video.php
  15. Awesome stuff, thanks again for sending along your tape. There was probably an hours worth of stuff on there that I'd never seen posted online before so pretty cool to see it get posted for those who were fans back then to relive or for current fans to experience for the first time.
  16. Daniel, just watching your tape and it looks like we need to update this again. This performance actually is 1998 and may actually be Rich's first with the band. As you know they followed with the performance of Rico and at the end of that it is stated that this event was "The Big Shiny Bash" and that Apparitions was featured on Big Shiny Tunes 3 which it's suggested would make a good Christmas gift. BST 3 was released December 1st 1998. The VJ says it is available now and would make a good Christmas gift, so this had to have taken place between December 1st-December 24th of 1998, which very well means this could be Rich's first performance with the band.
  17. It seems to me like its usually about three months before we get an official announcement. For the BM Revisited tour it was announced the first week of December and the earliest shows were the first week of February. These are leaking wayyy in advance. Usually the only thing we know this far out is festival dates, and even those are usually only 4-6 months in advance. Those shows are like 8 months out...and its not just that they're leaks, some are selling. So it definitely breaks from tradition quite a bit.
  18. I'm wondering if he may head north to Grande Prairie or somewhere. Its too long of a gap to just sit around Edmonton and not play. I suppose it's possible he just plays a couple shows in Edmonton, but that would be like five shows in the general area of Edmonton for that week. Its not impossible for him to do an Edmonton gig on the 16th and then head to Grande Prairie for a show on the 18 before coming back to Camrose on the 22nd. He has to be heading East after Fort Saskatchewan in order to make it to Ontario in time, maybe a stop off in Sask or Winnipeg along the way I would expect. Kind of a fun game trying to figure this one out. Definitely seems to be a small market tour though.
  19. Thanks for the info, I"m thinking I'll most likely be attending this one! hoping for another show in the Edmonton area for the 16th to make it a nice two show weekend while Im there.
  20. Very true Anton, it's only because I am planning to possibly go to dates outside of my normal area that it is creating an issue for me. For instance if I knew there would be an Edmonton show I wouldn't go to Camrose and Fort Sask probably...but if I wait until I find out for sure, and there doesn't happen to be an Edmonton show, those other venues will have been on sale for weeks by then and with such small venues could sell out, or at the least have me at the back of the venue, which isn't the worst thing with these venue sizes I'll admit.
  21. Not loving the way these are being leaked. Hoping for some shows in Vancouver or Van isle and also in the Edmonton area, but not knowing what is coming is frustrating because I dont want to pick up tickets to Camrose and Fort Sask just to find out an Edmonton show is going to be announced a few days later. But at the same time, by waiting on those shows I run the risk of the best seats being gone by the time I buy if no other more convenient shows are offered.
  22. By all means if you want to send me along that VHS tape I'd gladly transfer it to digital and get it hosted somewhere online. So far I have still not received any of the other material so definitely would not hold me up in anyway. PM me and we'll work that out if you like, thanks for the offer! Ya I just had a hunch this wasn't the 1998 VMA's glad someone was able to prove it. So I'm not sure where this came from then, obviously early in 1999, but if I'm right with my thoughts this could be a Intimate and interactive show, then this may have originally had more too it. Usually those shows consisted of a few songs an interview segment and then another song or two and usually ran about 45 minutes. The amount of stuff that is just rotting in vaults from the MGB/early solo days is incredible. I can't believe that Matt seems to have little interest in that part of his career. Someday his kids will probably have a great interest in it and by then so much could be lost.
  23. Are you sure this is from the MMVA? I know the girl introduces the band as being 1998 MMVA winners...but could she just be referring to them having previously won that award? Kinda of like the next season in hockey people sometimes refer to the team who won the cup last year as the Stanley Cup Champions? I saw your post about not knowing the timeline of this show and I was thinking this looks like way too small of a venue to actually be the MMVA awards. Compare it with the Load Me Up clip from 2000 and you'll see what I mean. Also the fans all just standing on the stage seems odd for a major awards show. This setup makes me think it is probably one of those like live in house performances that used to happen on Much, and also might explain why the band played two songs. I'm just clutching at straws here, perhaps your tape proves this is actually the 1998 MMVA's and you have footage of other bands, but if this clip is all you have for the show, I don't think the girls introduction is a dead give away that this show is actually the MMVA's just that she is introducing the band as a previous MMVA winner which then could enable this show to have taken place in early 1999 which fits more with the traditional timeline of the band. Here is some footage from the 1998 MMVA's. It looks like several stages are setup including a large one outdoors and a smaller one, but none of them look like the stage Matt is playing on in the video above. Also notice the lack of any fans actually crowding around on the stage itself. Here is The Tea Party performing on the Much Music show Intimate and Interactive. The stage setup seems similar to the MGB one, the crowd setup and camera angles are definitely similar and notice the fans crowded on the side of the stage just like the above MGB video. I'm thinking that footage is most likely from a segment on this show.
  24. definitely seeming strange that no official announcement is coming, what do we have know half a dozen dates, some of which are already on sale? Definitely seems like a small market tour is the name of the game here.
  25. Would be shocked to see no Vancouver Island or Vancouver especially since they were skipped on the OLP tour. By the looks of this it's probably a month and a half to two month tour starting in the west. We know he is in the Kelowna area around the 10th I'm guessing a Vancouver show or two will take place around the 7th and 8th, probably a Van isle show or two a couple days before that. I think both Victoria and Nanaimo will see shows, by February of 2019 it will have been two years since he played those markets in any capacity, definitely not too soon for a return. I like the idea of some smaller venue acoustic shows and by the looks of it this will be a full scale tour like the full band ones he has been doing recently. Definitely planning to attend several shows on this one!
