  1. I don't think anyone would consider charging for this. I mean for one that would definitely make it illegal and two would there really be a market for that kinda thing anyways? I feel like it'd only work as a by the fans for the fans kinda thing. If fans filmed the Canada Day show that's impressive, But I always felt like it was just a recording made off the pro cameras at the show for the enlarged video screens. They just recorded the feed, similar to what Coachella does when they stream bands live acts on their website. If I'm wrong than holy shit! What a job!
  2. That's awesome Gursky, I always look forward to the Edmonton shows because of your recordings. Always a great mix balance and clarity and always of the whole show! Much appreciated, hope you can figure out those hardware issues, isn't it a pain when simple processes don't work quite so simply?
  3. Hey Marcella, yeah, no obviously without permission something like this wouldn't really go, I think Foats meant if people could get the go ahead to do this though. Hypothetically if something like this were to go down , it'd be ideal to have fans running the cameras who were familiar with the shows and significant parts of the songs, so they weren't focusing on say Bones during the solo acoustic opening of Apparitions. Definitely The Bored is a good place to start for that. Jesse brings up a good point, venue plays a key role too, GA shows are definitely a challenge. Best venue I've seen for this is Port Theatre in Nanaimo. You have room in front row for a tripod, the stage extends down flared out walkways that run out into the crowd where I have seen people set up cameras on tripods before. You also have loge balconies on each side of the stage where equipment could be set up too. It definitely could be done with a little preprep if the artists was interested in allowing it and there was no behind the scenes red tape to permit it.
  4. Nice to see Blue Skies might make an appearance back in the set. I always really enjoyed that song live. It has a great atmosphere to it. I hadn't been a major fan of it on the album, But back in 2008 seeing it live totally changed my opinion on it.
  5. For what its worth, fans of bands have done this for other large groups. Off the top of my head I know the fans of Rush have done this on numerous occasions at Radio City Music hall in New York, with multi angles and one centralized audio recording. Rush is a band that puts out a live DVD of every tour they so they have a competing product, and still here it is on youtube in it's entirety https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPw8Cqkq788
  6. Yeah easily my fav of the three Matt Good VIP's I've done. I've gotten pics with Matt, some autographs a hand shake or two, But I'm really all about the music. Four extra acoustic songs and hearing the soundcheck/banter between the guys was alot of fun. And usually I used the other VIPs to ask a quick question during my few seconds with Matt and that part is still involved in this VIP because you can not only ask questions yourself, but hear answers to other peoples questions that might be interesting. All in all much preferred this way of doing it. Especially because the acoustic songs he has played at the VIP are some real gems!
  7. I would say probably 20-50 would probably be norm. There seemed to be about 30 at the second one in Vancouver. It's intimate to the point that during sound check people are whispering to one another because they don't want to distract the band. I mean you could definitely get the guys attention if you wanted it, definitely not a huge group at all.
  8. Was going to try and embed the videos, But realized I have no idea how. Nice to see a few from Red Deer get upped though.
  9. No Girls in Black either. But yeah looked like he almost just went for whole album to start show.
  10. Damn that's cool. Quite a set. basically like a free VIP, I like that Matt just did the acoustic mid set. Also ending with Police Cars kicks ass.
  11. Anyone here going to tonights show, I'd love to see Matt open for himself...Now he's just getting downright pretentious haha, just kidding, should be a great show.
  12. haha that's awesome. I think security has really relaxed about this kind of thing. I used to have to really hide my audio recorder to bring it in, now with cellphones, tablets and whatever else, people just think its a different kind of phone...so I'm sure security won't have an issue with it, even if it's unconcealed.
  13. Anyone heard anymore on this? I know Matt was hoping to have Beautiful Midnight out at some point on this tour, although I am guessing it will not materialize now. I have been just salivating at the idea of this since it was first mentioned casually a few years back.
  14. Thanks Marcella, I was hoping Cloudbusting would turn up, hoping to learn the chords.
  15. Yeah haha I know, I guess some people don't have the same mentality. Admittedly I am guilty this tour, But in the past have usually brought phone to record rarities and have made some audio recordings. There was a guy standing beside me at the last Van show, he would start recording the beginning of every song. It seemed to me if it was a common tune, he would then turn his camera off, But he did make full recordings of the rarities and several new songs. But again, haven't seen where they have shown up.
  16. It's kind of funny, as technology has improved, the amount of recordings has greatly diminished. Like look at all the vids from say 2005-2009 online, Now at a show literally every second person is filming it with their phone and no videos exist. In Nanaimo when Matt came into the crowd for "Girls in Black" I noticed at least four people right up close with Matt recording, and another half dozen or so further back doing the same (I'm sure there is much more I didn't notice). Anyways with all those phones, not a single video from Nanaimo is on youtube. I think people just upload to their personal instagrams and facebooks so only immediate friends ever see them now.
  17. Acoustic set songs were posted a page or two ago. If I remember they were So Long Mrs. Smith Generation X-Wing Partial Los Alamos Symbolistic White Walls True Love Will Find you in the End Metal Airplanes Strange Days Prime Time Deliverance Sort of a Protest Song
  18. Band members left prior to questions. But band members were talking to crowd during soundcheck
  19. Yeah in regards to Matt's band on this tour, it might be my favourite lineup he's had, although I do admittedly miss the keys, just because it adds a bit more flexibility and fills out the sound. On a song like Police Cars. The keys at the end of that song just add so much mood and feel to the outro. With that being said Stu is a beast, he is absolutely killing it at being a lead guitar player and making up for the lack of keys on the tour. Almost all the songs come off as high energy, even slower songs in large part because of the groove the band gets in. Matt's vocals also have been consistent and strong, I noticed Scott Helman was losing his voice for the last Van show, But prior to that he had sounded good he was coughing a bit so maybe a cold. Hopefully Matt can stay healthy, on past tours he's frequently gotten colds as the tour winds on. The shows were probably the best shows of Matt's I've seen from top to bottom, hard to find anything at all to nit pick about, unless you for some reason hated Chaotic Neutral I can't see anyone on here not loving the shows on this tour. And since Matt reads the boards just a special thanks for working to get Police Cars in there for Vancouver, you mentioned not having much time to work on other material before hand, and obviously a song like Police Cars, just for it's length alone takes a little time to pick up, so I appreciate the effort, a definite highlight for me.
  20. Enjoyed the VIP alot. Really hoping to hear tiger. I think when matt talked about tiger being cut he might just have meant from the encores. Im hoping so.
  21. I'm terrible at playing by ear, But I've found you can usually get an idea of at least the chords for his songs by just watching live videos on youtube. But would definitely purchase a tab book if one ever were to show up.
  22. Trufflepig, yeah, I think the most important thing with writing lyrics is not caring what others think about it. If it means something to you write it, No matter what you write there are people who would criticize it. You're a fan of Matt and his lyrics or you wouldn't be here, But plenty of people aren't into that and obviously we're all pretty glad he keeps writing the stuff he does. So if you like it, if it means something to you than there is no shame in it. NonPopulus, have you been to other shows at the Port Theatre? Just wondering your thoughts on the venue. I find the sound is usually really solid, But something about its set up and atmosphere seems to cater to a more mellow crowd. I can't put my finger on it exactly, But ever show I've seen there has been the same sort of deal.
  23. haha I get your point NonPopulus...I laughed a little when he said about how much breaking up sucks and then introduced his next song as cry, cry, cry haha, But I thought it was a little refreshing to hear someone so young talk about, maybe putting their cellphones down and having a real conversation or two. In fairness back in the mid 90's when Matt sang "I'm tired of blood and over priced bubble gum, mom" Some Who fans might have thought who is this 25 year old punk and what is with these cheesy lyrics too. How many of us 10,15,20 years later still feel the same we did and are proud of things we did or how we acted at that time. Matt consistently has strong openers, sure maybe Scott Helman seems immature to an older crowd, But just about every artist probably did to someone older at one point or another. I figure I'll give the kid my support, maybe he has the potential to become something that someday will be more appealing to me, if not, well it's just half hour out of my life. Its not a fair comparison, But the Rolling Stones of 1962 were a totally different thing by 1969.
  24. Yeah, Actually the calling out for songs was fairly minimal compared to Victoria. I would say I only heard a few including the Load Me Up one that was mentioned. Sometimes you get people yelling the same damn song in every pause in the action, if he didn't respond the first time, It's doubtful hes going to on the 12th. As for crowds standing, I think alot more people would, I know for sure I would, But it drives me nuts being told to sit down all show long, once (not at a Matt show) a guy was holloring at me that he didn't pay $50 bucks to look at some dudes ass all night, and then tried to physically sit me down, I would stand the whole damn show, and much prefer that, But hate the bullshit abuse you take from those behind you about it, so usually I find myself waiting for others to get to their feet, sounds lame, I know, But its just not worth the shit you take for it. I wish like hell Matt played more GA floor shows, then you can do whatever the hell, if you wanna sit, sit further back, if you wanna be close, you stand. Nothing drives me more insane than some perfectly healthy 25 year old in the second row yelling at me I'm ruining his concert cause I'm standing and enjoying myself.
  25. I gotta say, the soundman (dave?) deserves alot of credit, probably the best sounding show of the 20+ shows I've attended. Everything was loud, But clear and with lots of space in the mix, I was really surprised how good everything sounded, and right from the first song. The new material is really coming to life, the difference between how it was played in Victoria compared to Nanaimo was night and day, I guess with a few more days of playing it under their belts, and some rest after what sounds like a hectic rehearsal, the band has really gotten the swing of the new stuff and are playing it with some real confidence now. Just a strong show all round. Girls in Black was a definite standout just so much power live, and Everything is Automatic got everyone out of their seats. I really liked Cloudbusting as a closer, especially with the rock out section at the end. Can't wait for Vancouver!
