I didn't read past the first page of the thread, but as shade probably already said on 2 or 3, you're placing too much importance on lyrics. "American Pie" is a good example. Everyone's familiar with the song, but no one knows/cares what the hell it's about (Buddy Holly's death.)

Why do movies always come out in pairs like this? Studio competition? Waitress and Knocked Up are both coming to theaters at the same time, both movies about a woman who gets pregnant unexpectedly. Remember when this happened with The Prestige and The Illusionist? Both movies about magicians around the same time by different studios. All that I spoke to said they approached love songs from the receiving end (that is, they listened as if the song was directed toward them.) It also seemed to be a positive feature of songs for them--they tended to like songs like this.
