Anyone else catch the Compassion Forum tonight? I think Obama made some gains. Hillary's performance seemed a bit overkill--recounting the story of Esther and generally trying to act like a Biblical scholar. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of Barack's responses, he never reduces the conversation to talking points. Take tonight for example: in front of a crowd of religious leaders and collegiate spectators, he made sure to explain that while he is personally a man of faith, he doesn't believe that religion always has to be at odds with science. He went on to explain that he can have his PERSONAL beliefs without infringing upon the separation of church and state. His critics will say he's vague and "all talk", but I'm glad he thinks highly enough of the American voters not to dumb down his message. -

Have you tried Rosegarden? Ultimately, OSX is the best choice for audio right now (Leopard isn't fully supported yet.) You've probably already seen this, but if not, maybe it will help: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb03/arti.../linuxaudio.asp Hope you find something that works! ~ James -

I really hope Edwards reconsiders that position. I can understand why he'd be jaded about it--when he was John Kerry's vice presidential nominee and Kerry was being swiftboated, Edwards insisted on going on the offensive, but Kerry demanded that his campaign ignore the attack, the idea being that addressing the ad would only legitimize it. We all know how that went! I think Edwards is one of the few politicians who really cares more about his cause than the office he holds (or could hold), sometimes to a fault. But I hope he realizes the difference he could make as Obama's VP or Attorney General. My brother and a group of about 70 other volunteers organized by the Obama campaign went door-to-door today in my very small town. It's the only time that's happened in my lifetime here, not even local politicians have organization like that. Very exciting stuff. -

Penguins > Senators Caps > Flyers Rangers > Devils Avs > Wild Preds > Red Wings Habs > Bruins Stars > Ducks Sharks > Flames Of my predicted winners, I think the Caps and the Penguins look the strongest so far. I expected more from the Sharks, but all the first games in the West were a snoozefest compared to the Eastern matchups. -

I'm not sure which is crazier--not recognizing the name of the woman quoted in your signature, blaming Naziism on socialist economic policy, or the suggestion that the very concept of taxation is unjust. The modern American economic system is socialized capitalism. Government contracts are awarded to undeserving corporations with ties to the officials in charge of the jobs. Think Halliburton for the highest profile example. Fish in a barrel. I wouldn't mind a little bit of European socialism--I'd much rather pay for socialized medicine or improvements in the education system than for the transfer of wealth to government contractors. I suggest that you set your philosophy books aside for a moment and examine some real-life situations. Such pure ideals have a place in discussion, but the world we live in is never so black and white. Consider practical applications. Consider the possibility that Senator Obama does not champion "evil ideas", but turns to a belief in a higher power for the faith to tackle incredible odds. Consider the possibility that Senator Obama only sought church membership because it is usually the only path to winning elections in the United States. And really--in a country whose moral heroes include racists, adulterers, and alcoholics, is prayer the red flag we should be looking for? Again, please consider reality. -
You're right, but it's the best Zelda game, at least. I promised myself I wouldn't get into this one, though. Give Psychonauts/Shadow of the Colossus/Haunting Ground and some other non-franchise titles a shot and you'll soon realize how ridiculous the suggestion that the 5th game in the Zelda series is the "best ever made." cut here 8<-----------------------------------------------------

Well said, Amanda. As for his faith--he'll be the most progressive leader we've had in that category. He's the son of agnostics and the grandson of Muslims and Christians. He was not born into religion, he chose it in adulthood. Has he once used his faith for anything negative? I don't care if you're a(n) (Christian/Agnostic/Muslim/Pokemon), but for the love of (God/Who knows?/Allah/Professor Oak), be a pragmatist! An Obama presidency would be a substantive step forward for America. -
Consider the date. Edit: That said, it looks delightfully terrible and it'd be fun to see how poor writers would adapt a story as shallow and non-existent as any Zelda title's for the big screen. P.S. Every Zelda game after A Link to the Past sucks.

Hillary had a town hall meeting in a neighboring city today and was already expected to have fewer than half the attendees that the Obama meeting did. The local news is covering it now: she's 2 hours late and no one's there. Man-on-the-street interviews had Hillary supporters confessing that they thought the event had been cancelled because no one else was there when they arrived. -

Sorry decomposinglight, I think he meant me. One of about 2000 for the auditorium where he was speaking. I figured Sparg or somebody would appreciate this one. Everyone in line was given a little security mini-speech about protecting the senator before we went in, even the android in front of me. Everyone was represented: whites, blacks, fats, ponytail mans. Was not a superdelegate; would not cast buffs (wtf.) Out of design ideas. They could've used the Obama "O" for "Official." Spot the healer again! Yours truly, killing time during the two hours between being seated and the actual start of the event. At one point, a camera tipped over and violently struck my upper back. Way to go, NBC. Surprisingly low light--but I felt weird about flashing Obama during a speech, so it's a bit grainy. Not like you can't find better photos of him anyway. I didn't get the chance to meet him--I've never been one to fight a crowd for the chance to shake a hand, and he was absolutely swarmed afterwards. Still, it was a great experience and unlike any other political event I've witnessed (I saw Edwards about a year ago.) It's true what they say about the atmosphere being like a rock concert--there were people outside trying to buy tickets and guys selling bootleg buttons, stickers, and shirts--but that's a somewhat misleading statement unless you had a very openly political rock concert in mind, haha. An 18-year-old high school girl in line behind me spoke at length about his speeches, the elderly professor in front of me talked to her young granddaughter about how Barack's policies would affect her education, even the bootleggers expressed a sincere belief that his presidency would make their lives better. The sense of community was amazing. At the Edwards event I attended, it was as if everyone did their best to make it seem like a stuffy yacht club meeting, even though it was an interview of a man with a populist appeal and passion for economic equality unlike any other candidate in the race. The Obama town hall meeting was unlike anything I'd ever seen--there were as many pairs of jeans as suits, and everyone happily blended as if they'd completely forgotten the socioeconomic boundaries that are so clearly drawn where I'm from (the rural South, where there's a rich side of town and a poor side of town, which is then even further divided into white neighborhoods and black neighborhoods.) I hope that sentiment survives the primary and the general election and is intensified in the Obama presidency. That's the America I want to live in, and that's why I'm supporting Barack Obama. -

It's funny how quick people are to stereotype animals. I was not a fan of cats until one showed up at my door that was really smart and well-behaved. I think animals in general are pretty sweet except when bad keepers make them go crazy.
