Happy to hear the song is getting the recognition it deserves! It's just...

I think "How It Goes" might be one of my favorite Matt Good songs - a deep album cut like "Empty Road," "Bright End of Nowhere," "The Boy Come Home" that doesn't get talked about too much, but for whatever reason strikes a strong, emotional cord with me; fantastic stuff.

Alright, alright, alright - Top 3 favorite songs at the moment... 1) How It Goes 2) Non Populus 3) Set Me on Fire EDIT: ccf23 - While I wouldn't go so far as to say it's better than Hospital Music (for personal reasons, it will always be one of my favorites), I definitely agree that it's one his best. There is so much to love about this CD.

This CD is soooooo goooooooooooooood *drools* I think that it's quite a departure from the rest of Good's catalogue - not just in instrumentation, but mood/ atmosphere/ tone/ what have you; there's a genuine warmth to the record. Also, "Zero Orchestra" is a cracker ;)

I'm not sure where this album ranks in the pantheon of MGB/ MG records, but it completes this trifecta I've sort of established in my head of classic Good solo records (along with "Avalanche" and "Hospital Music"), and if it is to be believed that this is, indeed, his final album in the traditional sense, then it's a fitting conclusion. Lights of Endangered Species is an intense, dense and immensely satisfying record. I cannot stop listening to it, slowly discovering different things tucked beneath the surface; it's class.

Thanks, uglyredhonda! While I usually go the iTunes route, I tend to shell out a few extra bucks for artists I'm particularly big fans of... plus I just enjoy having the CD case + lyrics/ artwork.

$27.52?! Gee, if only there was some way I could listen to the album without having to spend over $25... ;) but seriously, I'll probably just buy it off itunes.

It's weird, but after hearing Non Populus and loving it, I've started enjoying In a Place of Lesser Men A LOT more, too... like, I can't tell which one I prefer over the other anymore. To anyone having heard the demos, where would you rank these two tracks?

Chad Kroeger is one of the most prolific songwriters of today's generation. His words speak to the heart with utmost sincerity and poetry. Take, for example, this quatrain from their smash hit "Photograph"... Look at this photograph Every time I do it makes me laugh How did our eyes get so red? And what the hell is on Joey’s head? At first glance, you'd say it's a typical AB rhyme scheme, but when delving deeper into the poem's (and it is pure poetry) meter, you'll notice how the 1st and 3rd lengths have a varying meter length, but the 2nd & 4th are equal, signifying a duality within the verses that extend a symmetrical balance, an equilibrium that quantifies the "photograph" emanating feelings both positive AND baleful.

Non Populus... hooooooolyyyyyy shiiiiiiiiiiiit ;) I mean, I enjoy "In A Place Of Lesser Men," but this song... man, this song is gorgeous. I am sold on this record, so where the heck do I pre-order this beast?

I'm going to have to agree with the person who said the song reminds them of The Beatles - can't put my finger on why exactly, but I'm enjoying it regardless; a kind of chilled, quasi-laid back vibe with heavy lyrics. I was a little disappointed at first, but I suppose the huge burden of it being the "big single" affected my expectations (and honestly, aside from "Weapon," I can't think of a first single from hardly any of my favorite artists that I've legitimately been thrilled about). I have no idea what the rest of the record will sound like, but right now I'm content... and also curious as to how the song will sound with regards to its placement on the album.

I don't think I have to worry too much about being caught up in the hype with Bimbly around :angry: ...and just so we're all clear, I know that kinda reads like a slight on Bimbly, but by no means is that my intention. I appreciate his counter points to temper all the suffocating approbation that some fanatics tend to impose (no one in particular, just generally speaking). Also, the forum is a lot busier when he's around ;)

Manchalivin - you're getting me too damn excited. While I do love Vancouver now (it took me a while to fully appreciate it), I might have to confess that it's also probably my least favorite MG album (a smidge below WLR&RR)... so reading your thoughts and how they sort of echo my initial impressions of the record, and how you're quite impressed with his new material... I'm happy to read that.

I got demo-itis with Vancouver :/ Took me almost a year to fully appreciate the damn thing (I love it now)... Maybe not being able to listen to these demos is a good thing. Silver lining, I s'pose...

I... don't know... what... to think... *screams* Can't wait to hear the new material. I suppose, at the very least, Bimbly's reactions temper my previous excitement...

I kinda view that song as the "Anti-Pop" of Vancouver... and while I do enjoy both of those tunes to an extent, something tells me Mr. Good doesn't share a similar enthusiasm (not to mention the fact that it doesn't really fit thematically with the rest of the record... but I'd still very much appreciate an official release!)

Had no idea what "For and Against" was, but I just listened to it along with a few other demos (apparently b-sides) available via youtube... wow. Solid tunes; can't wait to hear the material that end up on the record. EDIT: And thank you, johnny ;) EDIT #2: And may I say, I love "Die Like Kings:; a shame it's not going to be on the new album. Also just discovered Danielle French whilst scouring youtube for more Matthew Good rarities (apparently he co-wrote a song of hers titled "Worthy")... really liking her stuff!

Yesssssss... Do you know if he's going to be giving signed copies to the first so many orders? I missed out the last time he did this, but hopefully I'll be a bit more lucky this time around...

Many congrats for their new addition ;) I hope Mr. Good managed to have an amicable resolution with his lawsuit, too... that is just too much foolishness to deal with when you've got a youngin' on the horizon.

I can't help but feel the same way - while I certainly would have loved to listen to the demos when they were previewed, I'm glad I didn't have the opportunity to do so. To be honest, the demos are kinda what ruined Vancouver for me - after being so familiar with the rough cuts, I suppose I just expected more from the actual release. It wasn't until a year after I went back to the album that I eventually "got it." Still, I certainly don't mind reading people's impressions of the songs ;)

I implied that merely to highlight your generous critique of the remix by use of litotes with "not bad" as opposed to "not good."
