The Hour's Disc Drop
CaptainRocket replied to sodamntired's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
This is a really great idea. I was going to do this a couple years ago, but after I burned the disc I ended up getting to host my own radio show on my local campus station, so I never bothered. I love this idea though. ...but imagine the horror of finding an all Nickelback mix...yikes. -

I like it a lot, I was only disappointed that the studio version of Videotape isn't as good as the Thom solo version from the In the Basement podcast. Otherwise I'd say House of Cards is memorable if only for hearing Thom say "I don't want to be your friend, I just want to be your lover." I laughed. -

It has to be Hunky Dory for me, but Ziggy is close behind. Life on Mars! -
Halloween Songs?
CaptainRocket replied to borntohula's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
Is this for a mix cd or what? Here are some suggestions: Halloween by Siouxie and the Banshees Halloween by Sonic Youth (and the entire Bad Moon Rising album) Halloween on the Barbary Coast by the Flaming Lips Beck has Satan Gave Me a Taco and Devil's Haircut...even Scarecrow loosely fits the theme. Ooh! Don't Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult! Gubbbish by Chad VanGaalen has some good lyrics. Chrissy Kiss the Corpse by Of Montreal The Pixies or Radiohead or Smashing Pumpkins could also help. The Rocky Horror soundtrack is good. TV on the Radio's Wolf Like Me is kind of about werewolves. Sufjan Stevens has that song about zombies from the Illinois album. You'll have to stick to old goth tunes, mostly. Horror punk is a good genre. That's all I got. Oh, and Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden. -
I think it is "For you to come inside and eat"

I'm guessing "The Devil's In Your Details"

The New Smashing Pumpkins
CaptainRocket replied to sodamntired's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
I don't like the marketing ploy either, but I suspect it may have been the record company's idea (not that I'd be surprised if it was Billy's...). The Pumpkins always have b-sides with each release that become available with the singles. I think Death From Above is the Tarantula b-side, so the other two would presumable come out with Doomsday Clock and (That's the Way) My Love Is. I think all the tracks will be available publicly eventually, but we'll have to see. If you really want them though, just do a quick search. a few music blogs have them up, and you can definitely find a torrent. -
"the New Odds"
CaptainRocket replied to Matt's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
It's too bad they aren't playing with Steve though, considering he wrote half the songs. Really, "the new Odds" have been playing together since the last group broke up...Doug, Pat and Craig are always working together. Will they still be playing Steve's songs? "Eat My Brain" and "I Would Be Your Man" are kind of necessary to an Odds set. "Wendy Under the Stars"? Still though, I would love to see them live, and Craig Northey is a really nice guy. I will pick this album up. -
The New Smashing Pumpkins
CaptainRocket replied to sodamntired's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
After listening to it for the past week, I enjoy it more than Machina, easy, and I'd rather listen to it than Gish. Obviously, the scope was limited to just trying to bring the rock on this one, but it paid off. The only problem I have is with the vocals being so high in the mix, but otherwise, it sounds like the Pumpkins. I find I've been skipping the middle section, from Starz to Neverlost, and (Come On) Let's Go! is kind of a throwaway track. The bonus tracks fill it out a little better too, so try and get a torrent with them if you can. Death From Above probably should have been on the album, and Stellar sounds like an Adore era cut. Zeitgeist is an all acoustic track that kind of reminds me of Zwan. -
The New Smashing Pumpkins
CaptainRocket replied to sodamntired's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
My only problem with this album is the fact that there are three versions with different bonus tracks, so you would need to buy it three times to get them all, plus a fourth time if you want the deluxe booklet. I bought the booklet and am downloading the tracks. Thanks, internet. I dig the music though, and let's be serious...Billy didn't let James and D'arcy do very much to begin with, so this isn't too much of a departure. -
I'll be hitting Red Deer and both Edmonton shows...I'm pretty pumped, especially considering he played an acoustic version of Suburbia at that party in Vegas, so out of 3 shows it has a good chance of appearing.

That's just what these movies need, more characters to pay attention to. The reason I enjoy seeing comoc book movies is to see how the story is adapted to the screen. I don't want to see comic book continuity, I want to see a good movie. Spidey 3 would be better if it just focused on Harry and the Sandman, and left Venom to his own movie.

Bands With Staying Power?

I just read that since Disco Duck was included in Saturday Night Fever but not on the soundtrack that he lost what could have been millions in royalty fees...I am so happy. -

Bands With Staying Power?

Well Three Days Grace has, what, two albums already? If that isn't staying power these days, I don't know what is. -

It's already clear those bands have staying power. What about newer bands, who do we think will be able to have that kind of staying power? Speculate ad nauseum.
