Thank you for the clarification...in that regard, yes the prevailing popular opinions, political leanings of the states, red vs. blue...generally carry the electorate vote. You are also pretty dead on about the general purpose of the electoral college's initial inception. I personally feel that the popular vote should carry more weight. The Electoral College, confirms a lot of power on a very small minority of people...who are more likely to have their own agendas in play. While that's true in any delegation of a greater masses power, to it's elected officials...it seems more dangerous in a time when a major corporation, can buy and sell an elected official with relative ease...see Dick Cheney... I believe Sarah Palin will be the same when it comes to Big Oil...She has close ties to them.
