i can't believe there's no thread to discuss vancouver! (unless i'm very blind) what did you guys think about the album? mod edit: just a bit blind ;) search is your friend  in that case, i thought vancouver was an average album. i'm glad to have an update of matt's particular palette of soundmaking, but this is just a rehash of avalanche. it's like, 'the boy who could explode' has replaced 'while we were hunting rabbits'. that being said, avalanche is my favorite work by matt and so i really enjoy vancouver, it is merely lacking in inspiration.

What Are You Reading?
manfromharoldwood replied to Matt's topic in Rentals, Television, and Readables
finished 'childhoods end' by arthur c. clarke. it was very amusing to read, but ends weakly. onto either 'heart of darkness' or 'do androids dream of electric sheep?' or maybe 'the basic kafka'. the possibilities are endless. -

matt has a fascination with the moon landing/fraud theory, eh?
-
i HATE this movie. it's just the matrix trilogy, condensed and reversed. instead of wanting out, we want to go back in this time. make up your mind, people!

the only song i've ever heard played from AoB live (and i've seen MG five times) is the rat who would be king. ;) good song, but great album! give it a chance, matt.

first song i attempted to learn on guitar. pitifully so. so, it holds a special place for me. the lyrics are cutting.

*pop* in essence, i think it was made for gay/gay-friendly people. just like i have no interest in watching, say naomi watts getting molested by that lesbian in mullholand drive (which was still a great movie, in spite of that), you have no interest in seeing jake molest heath. furthermore, you don't appreciate the time and place in which it was set. that being said, the performances were great and i was happy to see a movie that was 90% devoid of gay stereotypes. *pop*

Female Vocals
manfromharoldwood replied to WalrusMeat's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
in my humble opinion, i usually feel uncomfortable listening to most female vocalists because they tend to get really gushy with their emotions without being overly artistic about it. (this is a vague generalization and please the the IMHO!!) it takes a very unique girl to make me say 'wow'... like tori amos, and regine chassagne. -
who is this... 'they', and why are so many bands in the dark regarding this?

The Arcade Fire
manfromharoldwood replied to Hyphnip's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
i thought they were super original, but i've recently started listening to broken social scene and i find they have a few similarities so.... they're still cool, just slightly less so.
