This is what I had to put up with over DriftingInfluence--a complete baby who would never admit that he could be possibly wrong. Just one thing. Because you play instruments & have musical knowledge on notes/chords/movements/time signatures/whatever... over others DOESN'T MEAN that you have a greater amount of musical knowledge over someone else. I read that somewhere on the 3rd page and I found it amusing. Besides, I would RATHER listen to my favourite records than struggling to duplicate what has already been done. What does that even prove anyway? Funny how you stated the whole "this is the internet, don't take things too seriously" while you try to pick on a fight with anyone who has an altering view against you. So someone inadherently called you a retard? Forget about it. Move on. Grow the fuck up.

2005 Matthew Good Band Elimination
Shortcut To Moncton replied to NationofCool's topic in Matthew Good
the songs that lost to the songs youve listed will make up the bottom half of the top 19. So then what's the point of voting for Round 4 songs if they're going to be essentially included? -
The strings at the end of the BM version made the song what it is.

2005 Matthew Good Band Elimination

1) The Rat Who Would Be King 2) A Boy And His Machine Gun 3) Sort Of A Protest Song 4) Change Of Season (my favourite song but I rank it this low point-wise because I know it doesn't stand a chance) "NOTE: If a song that lost in round 4 gets the most votes, I will take that, as well as the 2nd place song and make this a top 20. Otherwise I will be taking only 1 song and making it a top 19." I'm confused with the above; Avalanche, Fated, Weapon, While We Were Hunting Rabbits, Prime Time Deliverance, Advertising On Police Cars, Suburbia, Apparitions, and Tripoli are the only songs left. I count nine songs. Adding the mystery song from this round would be ten. I really don't understand how a top 20 or top 19 comes out of this? We aren't adding nine or ten songs back into the mix--please tell me we aren't. -

why bother having discussions? becuase its interesting to see what albums people like. You talk about validity, what makes your choices more valid thean anyone else's? Actual substance is again subjective, how can you judge it? If you say that Back in Black sucks (not that I am a fan of the album or even the band, although it was a pretty clutch album for them to make follwing the death of their singer, not many bands continue on after something like that), why? because you don't like it? Fine, but again your opinion has no more weight than anyone else's. Everyone stated their favourite album, as did you, but you are the only one who criticized someone else's choice. Did anyone ask you about your thoughts on that particular album or that person's choice? I don't think so. What makes you an authority? you will prob reply to this saying that you are allowed an opinion and the like, but does it mean that should you always give it? Just because everyone has a right to an opinion doesn't mean that he or she should always express it, especially in a case where there is no right on wrong answer. If you don't like someone's choice, congratualtions but nobody cares. This thread is not a discussion of the merits of ACDC's work, just a simple discussion of albums made in the 1980's that people enjoy. If you want to start an anti-Back in Black thread go right ahead. In case you missed this I'll repeat it for the last time. MUSIC IS SUBJECTIVE Objective.

Fuck that. Don't be hating the AC/DC. So you want me to support a band that has made the same album over and over for the past 25 years? A simplistic hard rock band that only writes about chicks, thrills, cars, and balls. Nothing more. How did they manage to pick up two clowns who sounded exactly the same anyway? The did make the same album over and over, agreed, but there is no "fuck that" when it comes to a question of someones personal favourite album, you have no idea why that person loves that album so don't assume anything. Someone may hate the bands or albums you've listed but do you care? Probably not, as you shouldn't. It's fine to discuss, nothing wrong with that, but don't say someone is completely wrong when its a simple matter of personal taste, no one mocked your choices, let it be. I never said that the person shouldn't like the album. If he honestly enjoys the album, then by all means listen to the disc. BUT when we are on a discussion about the BEST ALBUM of the 80s & AC/DC comes up, then one would know that there is truly something wrong and my "fuck that" response was very, very appropriate. again i will state that music is subjective and each has his/her own opinion. The subject of the thread is what is your (meaning everyone's) pick for best album of the 80's > there's nothing that says your opinion has more weight than anyone else's, you can stand by whatever you want becuase MUSIC IS SUBJECTIVE, and no one is wrong in their pick, case closed. CASE OPEN! Stating that there is something wrong AND being wrong are two totally different meanings. If music is primarily subjective, then why bother having discussions at all if people are going to act that opinions are more of importance as opposed to validity & the actual substance? I'm going to play some Yahoo Chess. Maybe I'll be back later.

How did they manage to pick up two clowns who sounded exactly the same anyway? if you think bon scott and brian johnson sound the same... well, you're an idiot. and it may be true that they've released basically the same album for 25 years, but back in black is the album that they've copied. the pinnacle, if you will. Back In Black sounded no different than early albums like High Voltage or Dirty Deeds; they just scored a huge break with every single hit on that album. You don't think it was a coincidence that they hired Brian Johnson as their replacement? They didn't want to lose their wide audience that they had at the time so obviously they'd pick up a man that sounded identical to Bon Scott. Yes, I'm an idiot for stating the obvious. I assume you consider Back In Black one of the greatest records of all time. I mean it sold 19 Million albums, how couldn't it be?! Don't forget to put your Back In Black t-shirt and head to the Beer Store tonight to pick up kegs of alcohol and party it up with your friends. You really rock man, you fucking rock.

Even The Rat Who Would Be King has swearing as well that everyone including me forgot about. Maybe lets keep the MGB out of the cd players in record stores for safe measure.
