Full Band Setlist Megathread (merged)

Just so everyone knows, my Matthew Good setlist at IOTA last night (Arlington, VA where he played in March) was Weapon and I'm a Window. You all should have been there. -
Do You Want/think Matt Should Start Up Mgb Again?
kbernardp replied to James's topic in Matthew Good
Gag me or lock this thread. It's unbelievable how irrelevant this topic is here. If you'd like, I could start a thread entitled "The world: Is it really flat?" Just when I thought the Flux Capacitor was the only thing that made time travel possible..... -
Mine is "Long Way Down." thanks man.
-
Wade, please update my track to also credit Lucas Keene as he did orchestral arrangements and mastering. Thanks

As an outsider completely not familiar with the "gimme this" of rock star life, I have to say that I see where he's coming from. My wife and I drove over 1,000 miles to see him (round trip.) I noticed two things.... 1) that people weren't there to see a Matthew Good show. They were there to see that guy that plays Time Bomb and Load Me Up. Even getting to know bystanders took away from the anticipation of taking a road trip to see him. The second thing I noticed was the overwhelming anti-American sentiments that befell my wife and I fielded just by our accents at times. The amazing thing about that is that I grew up 5 miles south of Canada under a family consisting 95% of Canadians! My friends in DC (I'm a recent transplant) call me "the Canadian guy." We were asked about George Bush at least 5 times. For the record, I don't know the guy and this isn't "my" war. I suppose my point is that from what I experienced there wasn't much of a "wow, this is Matthew Good" response. There was more of an "oh my God, beers are six bucks, but at least that guy who sings that song is here. Maybe we'll drink and dance or maybe we'll just drink." So separate that from the following. I am not a huge Bob Dylan fan. I've gone to seven Bob Dylan concerts. The first time I went because I wanted to say I was there. The next six times I went because I knew someone who wanted to say they were there. Are you following me? Matthew Good is an icon. People watch Antiques Roadshow and think about how valuable their nightstands might be the same way they recognize how regional icons will be available for live-viewing. Anyone who comes here or reads his blog are exceptions, absolutely. But you have to face the fact that people see everything from story value to monetary value in something like a Matthew Good vis-a-vis or an autograph. Some people even go because "aw shit, twenty bucks is nothing." So we are fans, and we know the difference. Unfortunately his experiences aren't subject to the same regulations and demeanor we try to hold to AS fans. We are that subculture within that uncontrolled universe even the rest of us experience everyday. The rest of us have the convenience of not being that guy who is recognized and pre-judged by everyone else. Face it, even when he stops on the road to choose what he wants on his pizza he's probably dealing with someone who has an opinion of him. So the guy wants to take a break. He didn't go to a major publishing distributor to say "Attn: Everyone. I'm done with this autograph bullshit." He came to the people who cared and said "just so you know... I'm tired of some of this and I need some space. I'm sorry for alienating you, but this is how it is right now. Personal choice." So just respect it. When I don't want to answer questions, I ask my wife for some understanding. I've never had to ask the public for that. He clearly does. When it all boils down to the undiluted basics of being a person, we're all entitled to our feelings and emotions. You don't answer to him anymore than he answers to you. So one of these days you'll get your autograph. For now, just hold tight and enjoy the same music you enjoyed before he came to town. And to the rest of you, suck it. :-)

I just got back from playing at open mic. Tonight Growlers of Gaithersburg, MD was given a version of Weapon that I arranged this afternoon. It felt so good to play that in a way I was comfortable with, and I didn't even have to dumb it down. I'll try to record it this week for everyone if interested.

I would want to play Deep Six, Weapon, and Flashdance II.

Fantastic, man. I really like it.

Full Band Setlist Megathread (merged)
kbernardp replied to Monochrome Rainbow's topic in Matthew Good
Yeah, the setlist doesn't seem to be changing too much at all. It would be cool to see a new gem just pop its head out somewhere. -
The funny thing was that those little stickers in their own right pretty much became the anti-napster. CD's were flying off the shelves because they had those little stickers on them. When I was twelve it was cool when there was the f-word in your favorite songs. Things are a little different now, though. Have you ever played Call of Duty online and have had to mute or report a nine year old because what he was saying was so offensive it made you uncomfortable?

He's not necessarily lacking any rockstar dynamics on this tour either. -
Yeah, that was pretty evident. He opened up with Giant. I've been to shows where the crowd just did it on its own, though.
-
In Kingston it was on a loop. By that I mean it wasn't started by the crowd. It was a track on the soundboard and a man hit "play."
-
I'd love to help if you'd like. I'm at [email protected]

I didn't take it offensively. Honestly, I'm a salesman.

I'm not a writer. I'm a pissed off 28 year old American who knows when his government is giving him the dutch oven.

I guess that's kind of my point. I'm not obtuse or unaffected by this. Let me say that first. I remember when gas went from $1.35 to $2.35, though. I remember it dropping to $2 a gallon, hearing people say the words "gas" and "cheap" in the same sentence and thinking "wait, no.... $1.30 is cheap." As consumers we can't hold our own with this commodity. We can't say, for example, "well we heard your toys have lead in them, China. We're not going to buy them." We don't put toys into our cars. We don't use toys to fuel the machines that get us to work everyday and therein uphold every form of commerce as we know it. So the door stays on while the people who own the hinges say "give us more grease or the doors come off." Newsflash, Canada. $6.00 or $6.50 a gallon isn't a bargain. Newsflash, USA. $3.50 isn't a bargain either. I guess my point is that you've done the necessary research to identify the way to talk to Matthew Good about your music, hobbies, interests, etc. You've done the necessary research to reach a medium of commenting on a $65 hoodie. Those people in your regional offices work for you. My guess is that they are at least a little bit like you. Go to their offices and raise hell with everyone who feels the same way. Think about it. If your boss doesn't like the quality of your work, then he lets you know. If you're a good employee, then you do something about it. Together you and I are the bosses. Find out where your representative works and let him know that you're not going to stop reminding him that this needs to be done. If you're not living efficiently, then you need to do it. Then you need to make sure everyone else does it through mandations. It's your Earth, too. If that doesn't make our Earth more healthy and our lives more affordable/enjoyable, then you need to raise hell about the rusty spot. Think about it. We're not here solely to carry responsibility. If our lives are filled with stress and responsibilities then what's the value of life? Enjoyment of life really defines these values, and it's clear we're learning that one upholds the other. You have a means. You have a responsibility. You have the right, and you deserve the enjoyment. So how's that for "what the hell can we do about it?" I've reminded you of a means of doing something about it. Don't be idle and internet. Go somewhere and get in someone's face. I mean, do it legally of course. That's what a democracy is, dude. If you don't use democracy then that's your fault.

If I had a nickel for everytime I heard that... Just kidding. Thanks :-)
