  1. Yeah sick Genn solo! So dirty, kinda miss all the effects and distortion he squeezed into his contributions to MG songs. Not that they'd have any place in Matt's solo work. "It used to matter when we used to Rockk!" Gimme a break. Your loss, bud!
  2. It's a cute album, I can see how the whole concept behind it is quite charming. There are some standout tracks. I like a lot of the stylistic/period references (doo-wop, Orbison, choir, sci-fi). Pretty decent overall
  3. Thanks Ryan Again, this is 'Loney dear', a certain level of musical genius from Sweden. This video is a tiny tip of the iceburg, from what is my favourite album of 2009, 'Dear John.' This is not what the whole album sounds like structurally, but it is a good indicator sonically. Also this is a 'single' version, so it's chopped down. Actually here is another song from the album, 'Under A Silent Sea'. When the beat kicks in at 3:48... so good
  4. Land of Talk ARE great, and also excellent Waits performance, thanks for posting guys! This is 'Loney dear', a certain level of musical genius from Sweden. 5. You guys've seen the clips uploaded on youtube for the Abbey show? He needs more band in my opinion. And a partial string section, for christ's sake. And to be honest I've never been a fan of Stuart's guitar work, for the most part I've been uncaptivated by his performances. How do you top Christian Thor Valdsen though? I'm not an 'I wish things could be like were' kinda fan, but I feel that his band could be a lot better. It should be a lot better. Maybe I'll be eating my words halfway through the tour, but that's how I feel right now with all the expectations I had for Matt bringing this fantastic new album across the country.
  6. Loney dear - under a silent sea Throw Me the Statue - Ancestors matthew good - silent army in the trees
  7. 'We're So Heavy' IS one of his finest accomplishments, period. Some of my favourite lyrics as well Hey, I've lost too many years to this I walk behind the crowd and pick up the garbage that was our future without memory that made the children of the system we created, and then forgave How can you love Jove, Drusila and Forsake Rome? blows my mind 98% of the time to listen through that. And 'Blue Skies' is a moment of such sincere empathy... Damn fine album!
  8. I really appreciate the fact that reviews are not strictly written by 'professional critics' these days. They're blogged out more often by people like you and me, folks who love music and review albums because they've been affected by the work (and not to get paid). Know your 'critic,' and trust them accordingly is how I roll. Also, I don't like Muse since (half of) Absolution. They bore and embarrass themselves to me at this point. Too bad! I'm happy to have seen them three times while they toured Absolution, on a small sidestage, a mid-sized club and the huge Glastonbury festival. They were fucking jaw-dropping brilliant performers.
  9. A direct apology would be an email... this is an indirect apology. Just saying. Edit: 'Flood control' setting on board duplicated my message...weird.
  10. Must be the Bunny
  11. Whatever, it was a hypothetical statement. Relax folks, and keep it real for chrissakes.
  12. That's been my attitude completely. I have such a great seat for the Massey Hall show, How do I wait till Dec 18?! I hope his health carries him that far...
  13. Seriously, if you haven't listened to Tangiers: Never Bring You Pleasure (2004), do yourself an honestagoodness favour and find it. Screw it, you won't find it... here it is. They've disbanded anyway. http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=57f390e...04e75f6e8ebb871 Also, I'd forgotten about Fashion Nugget! Great album
  14. If we're talking about appropriately opening and closing the album said tracks are featured on, I would go with Pledge of Allegience and House of Smoke and Mirrors. As for worst (or least favourite), I'd go with Alabama Motel Room. I can't even listen to True Love will Find You in the End anymore, as far as I'm concerned She's in it for the Money is the last track on Hospital Music.
  15. I thought that moment was 'Hold me like you'll never let me go' on Empty's. But I know whatchoo mean, even my less-emphatic friends have mentioned looking for that on the album as well, we're not alone it seems. But I am totally okay with that, and pretty content with the album on the whole. Still discovering it.
  16. Chromeo... meh. Doesn't stick to my ribs.
  17. Well I'm not exactly jonesing. I'm really happy with that album, it's actually my favourite on the whole. It was so refreshing after the perfected and laboured production of Avalanche, but I wouldn't want him to repeat himself for the sake of repeating himself... I think the next best thing, and I think this has been coming for awhile, is a stripped-down, acoustic folk-blues album of new material. Then again, hah, he's not getting any younger, so I could wait X number of years for that to finally happen.
  18. 'On Nights Like Tonight' has really grown on me, though I don't care for the opening. I also don't care for the opening of Volcanoes, and the encore I would be fine with if it wasn't an encore, but rather the end of the song with no pause between. I think Silent Army is one of the strongest songs on the record, but it sounds like it belongs on Hospital Music. Sticks out as odd in the context of the rest of the album. Same with Us Remains Impossible to a lesser degree, come to think of it.
  19. A former coworker of mine, Jerry, introduced me proper to many bands/musicians before my time. Hendrix was one of them, and Axis: Bold As Love was spun the most. Jerry was great because he had all these crazy stories of growing up in Montreal during the late 70's and 80's; he usually had a drug reference for every album. It's fortunate for one to be exposed to seminal albums by those who've lived with them and truly appreciate their place in history. Thanks Jer! White collar conservative flashin' down the street, pointing that plastic finger at me they all assume my kind will drop and die, but I'm gonna wave my freak flag high!
  20. I was looking through the In A Coma album today (which is typically RIDDLED with grammatical errors and poor copy alignment), and was once again struck by the 'Bunny Suit' series of images captured for this project. If anyone is interested, photographer Ivan Otis' work can be found here, along with many more images from the Bunny series (in the galleries section).
  21. No silly, the song itself is in the upload thread, there are no lyrics posted anywhere to my knowledge. Also, AOB, no one is even remotely complaining or 'whining' about the quality of the demo, where did you pick up on that? There's been some discussion about it fitting in the flow of the record as is, and also the choppy beginning of the ripped file, that's it. Chill out.
  22. I wonder if there's a copy floating out there with a clean intro...
  23. Just right click the selected songs in iTunes, click 'get info'. the last tab on the right is album artwork, add the desired image.
  24. How can it make your best list if you haven't seen it? BECAUSE YOU BELIEVE THE HYPE but seriously it is great, the stark soundtrack absolutely makes the film. I really enjoyed last year's Let the Right One In, creepy little swedish vampire film. I still enjoy watching The Prestige from time to time, and also Marjane Satrapi's graphic novel come to life Persepolis is just brilliant.
